I got this note from Zady yesterday in the mail. On the back it says:
we wooly like ewe…you are part of our herd
So cute! And that little sample of wool? So soft, and a very nice gray, I might add.
In case you hadn’t heard, Zady has been working on an essential collection this fall, which will include wool (sweaters only, I think) and is made – start to finish – in the US. A terrific feat, I think, and one that has required a lot of time and effort to make happen. Should be well worth it in the end.
I can’t wait to see the final product, and if you haven’t already, you should get on “the list” to be notified when it’s ready. But in the meantime, head over to Zady and read more about the process; from how they decided to work with Imperial Stock Ranch in Oregon to source the wool to choosing to work with knitters, Ball of Cotton, in California for the finished product.
If you’re not familiar with Zady yet, they’re a mission-oriented online retailer (and now designers!) committed to working with brands and artisans focused on timeless construction and quality.
In their own words:
At our roots, we are a collaboration between friends. Zady provides an alternative to today’s “fast-fashion,” as fad demanding consumers buy more and more instead of buying ‘good.’ We should not be compelled to accept throwaway goods as a way of life; we can instead take pride in the style and integrity of each and every piece we own.
Zady has also been featured in countless articles recently, including the WSJ piece I was also featured in, “Fashion Brands’ Message to Fall Shoppers: Buy Less, Spend More,” and in INC. magazine as “3 Innovators on Making a Profit While Changing the World.”
Of course, I’m also proud to call Zady a partner of Grechen’s Closet. We share the same ideals and mission when it comes to fashion: process/origin matters, and everything we choose to buy should be meaningful in some way, preferably both to us, and to the producer.
Please take a look when you have a chance, and let me know what you think! Are you looking forward to the launch? How do you identify with Zady’s mission?
I haven’t heard about them. Thank you for the heads up Grechen.
They were already on my radar, but when you partnered with them, it made Xady even better! Two of my favorites in one place <3
I love their mission, since I'm working to eliminate fast fashion from my wardrobe. Sustainable = Earth Friendly
well, that’s a freakin adorable card 🙂 I have never heard of this brand before, and now i’m super intrigued by this founding story. Only 1 year old?? I’m impressed by the size of the shop already! clearly more of the go-big/go-home start up variety
joanna’s work/life imbalance´s last blog post ..Everlane silk shirts: then and now, a review
I signed up for early access to their collection, and after reading the process they went through to manufacture these sweaters in a sustainable way, all in the US, I am shocked at how fairly priced the sweaters are. $160 isn’t cheap, but I was expecting them to be in the $300 range. Can’t wait to hear what they’re like in real life.
they’re so inspiring!!
yes – i think it just goes to show that it CAN be done. in the US. no more excuses in my opinion…
(where did you see the pricing information? i’m surprised also!! i really thought the sweater would be much more expensive)
I got an email from them today for early access:

haha! i didn’t get that 🙂
it looks awesome. i sort of wish it wasn’t a crew neck, but at least it’s longer, which works better on me, if it’s a crewneck, than short…if that makes sense.
And they have more styles coming out, so wait and see.
