I did a LOT of shopping this weekend (not a lot of buying), because for one, I’m in the mood to shop, and second, I desperately need things in my closet that ARE NOT COTTON. That’s right – I’ve put myself on a cotton-buying ban; I have enough t-shirts and jersey dresses to last a lifetime, now I need more grow-up pieces like jackets & silk blouses. I want to play around more with different textures & fabrics. And maybe a little color π And while I’m banning myself…I’m including flats in that ban. I have 4 pairs of Repetto bb flats that are in heavy rotation; now I need more wedges and high heels (NOT CLOGS!). I’m stuck in a fashion rut and I’m getting bored. Yes, my lifestyle is extremely casual, and I have a hard time justifying silk dresses & blouses when I can just wear a t-shirt, but it’s worth it to FEEL pretty & dressed up sometimes, no?
Here’s what I did this weekend:
Visited my favorite SA’s at Barney’s Co-Op π and checked out the new Alexander Wang bags in person. I do love the Lia sling bag, but I still desperately want the Eugene satchel in a lighter color. It’s so much more versatile, and “me”. The new Roccos & Diegos with the rose gold studs are TDF though. They’re really stunning. Here’s my outfit yesterday –
With the Lia sling bag – this is such a great bag, VERY practical with lots of pocket. Still a little heavy though:
With the Eugene satchel:
My outfit:
Denim skirt from Anthropologie
Spanx tights
Swedish hasbeens clogs
James Perse long sleeve tee
vkoo cashmere vest (this is from the upcoming collection, not available online yet. it’s AMAZING. so pretty, and adds some great visual interest to my otherwise BORING outfit ;))
From there, I went to Madewell to return a silk-sleeve shirt I bought a while ago (they’re on sale now – and they’re offering an extra 20% off sale items with code SOGREAT) and try on some of their silk blouses. Nothing worked perfectly on me, except I did like this one, but not the black. Now that I see they have a lighter color online, I’ll wait for a coupon code and order it then. I did end up getting this cardigan though…
THEN…I went into MAC to check out the new Wonder Woman makeup, and get some advice on creating a more dramatic eye, now that I’m wearing glasses more. I walked out with eye shadow palette in “Defiance” and the pro longwear lip creme in “Til tomorrow.” It remains to be seen if I can make my eyes look like the make-up artist did, but I will try. It was such an amazing difference.
I also ducked into LOFT to check out their silk shirts, but didn’t like the colors. I did try on this crepe open “blazer” and loved it – it was just cropped enough for me, and very flattering. Of course, I didn’t buy it in the store because I knew there were some coupon codes floating around…so I ordered it online for 30% off (code FEBAFF30). Don’t worry, I didn’t take advantage of any helpful sales associates…no one paid a bit of attention to me…And I still had to pay sales tax π
At Anthropologie I tried on a long floral-print skirt that’s not online yet, but it was very cool. I didn’t feel like I HAD to have it, but I did love it and think it would be very chic with a white tee or tank and some tan wedges. I’m going back on Wednesday to try it again, and buy it if I haven’t stopped thinking about it by then π
I also visited my friend Marcus at a local boutique here, Valentine’s Too, and wanted EVERYTHING in the store. Literally. Of course I can’t afford any of it…but there were so many interesting pieces. The ones that really stood out the most, though, were Tracey Reese. She is really hit or miss most seasons, but this season is gorgeous. I fell IN LOVE with a navy & white striped + leopard print chiffon dress (I know, sounds weird, but it was SO cool. it’s kind of similar to this one, but with a fuller skirt and 3/4 sleeves), a cream-colored blazer, leather trimmed jacket & her navy & cream cardigans/t-shirts. *sigh* And this scarf by Yarnz was SO beautiful…I need it in my closet:
Now, I need to figure out what I REALLY NEED in my wardrobe for this season, and narrow down my list…most of my clothing budget for the next few months will need to be diverted to a root canal π so I won’t have much to work with – I need to be very picky!!!
What did you do this weekend?
I really love both those bags on you! And that vest is gorgy! I bought a pointelle cardi from Vkoo and it’s so pretty, they have nice stuff. Ironically, I have had the same thought process as you this weekend. Lots of cotton tees (my favorite thing to buy…) and I really need some dressy tops. I have been looking at some Joie silk blouses online. They have some really pretty ones. So, I’m looking to buy some silk blouses soon. Oh, and that Vkoo vest your wearing…I love that!!
oh!! i love that pointelle cardi!! which color did you get?
i love the joie blouses, they’re just so expensive!! i see them at neiman marcus last call a lot though, i should start going there more….
my problem is i don’t really know what to do with dressy tops – i mean, besides just wear them with jeans…i’m not sure how to style them!
The cardi so cute! I got cinnamon, and while it’s not as bright as it’s shown in their pic, it is very pretty. Now I want a white one. So little money..
I do the same thing withJoie. I look, and I look, but it’s so hard to buy because they are so pricey. I see them alot at Nordstrom Rack too, so keep a sharp eye there. Then again, I can spend the money in a milli-second on a James Perse item. LOL! I guess you could wear the dressy tops with a pair of black pants, or black jeans. I think that is what I will do, find some black jeans.
I have this shirt in both colors and it’s great. It cute on its own and under blazers. Also you can decide how much skin if any you want to show. I have the same problem … am always in cotton and this top was cute and affordable. It was an extra 40% in stores when I bought it.

I see that cute little Cheshire Cat grin in the second pic! You turned to the side just for me, didn’t you?!?! lol… You look fantastic! They didn’t yell at you for taking a pic in the store??
As to dressing up more, I think you’re right. I’ve got some really cute pieces, but I’m most comfy in my jersey!!
