And part two of the home tour (part one here) – upstairs has three bedrooms, a bathroom and a large “bonus” room at the top of the stairs:
My office after I did a little organizing over the weekend. It’s much smaller than my office in the old place, and one of the smaller rooms upstairs, but I liked the window placement here and that it’s at the front of the house, so I can see the sunrise as I sit down to work. But the closet is tiny, so I have a lot of things out in the office that I didn’t before. It’s quite a bit more crowded with stuff than I’d like it to be (you don’t see my clothing rack in this picture, but you do in my outfits), but there’s not much I can do about it now. Slowre inventory is taking over…
Here is Leo’s office, which is across from mine and on the back of the house. Besides the backyard, one of the biggest reasons we were looking for a larger house was so Leo could have his own office/simulator room. In our old townhouse, his office and this giant racing simulator were upstairs on our landing area, between the two bedrooms. He didn’t mind it, honestly, but I sort of went crazy having to listen to the simulator for hours at a time. And I wanted him to have the same degree of space/privacy I had (he graciously let me have the only office space in the old house).
In addition to the three bedrooms upstairs there is a huge bonus room I was excited about, because that meant I could have my “studio” set up ALL THE TIME instead of keeping everything in a closet and pulling it out every time I needed to photograph product for slowre. This is a HUGE time/sanity saver for me, and I am so grateful to have it.
We had also been talking about getting a Peloton for a while, so now with this bonus area, we could have that as well. I’m so thankful we do…it’s been wonderful to do while I’m taking a break from Pure Barre because of my fractured jaw. And of course, Dagny has toys/socks/chews all over the floors 😉
Meh…we’ve become those people who live in a house that’s probably too big for them, but I’m not sad about it right now. When Leo and I were first together, we lived in his condo in Buckhead (Atlanta) and shared office space in our bedroom. Then, when we moved to Austin I worked at the dining room table, or in our bedroom, until we moved to Dallas and had my own office space. Now, Dagny has a backyard, we each have an office, my step-son has a bedroom for when he’s here, our kitchen is big enough for two people to move around in, friends next door…life is wonderful.
Incidentally, the condo in Atlanta is under contract. Fingers crossed all goes as planned and we can get out from under that very soon!!
I hope you have a good week ahead!
Thanks for the tour, Grechen! And hope you will soon be as healthy as ever! I love the second “stay at home Saturday” outfit – the pants look great and the sweater.
Would love to hear more about a) the peloton (review?) b) the All Birds lounge shoes.
Best wishes for an excellent 2018.
We have so much more space than we *need*, but we do use it pretty thoroughly. Sounds like your family does as well – and that’s not a terrible thing! (we have a LOT of workshop/garage space – technically 8 garage bays! More than half is husband’s work equipment, though… 😉
If you’re using the space, it isn’t more than you need! I didn’t hear you mention any rooms you’ve closed off or never go in… Having a personal spot to work is so important. Everything you’ve posted is so lovely and sun drenched. Thanks for sharing. And congrats on the condo being under contract. Speaking as an Atlanta resident blown away by how property has appreciated over just the last four years, I bet this is a really good time to have sold.
What type of studio set up do you use? I’ve been thinking about buying a backdrop and a light, but have no idea where to start.
honestly, i bought the cheapest, best backdrop i could find, which wasn’t the best idea, but it works okay i think. i really don’t know what i’m doing!! now that i’m not taking the backdrop down all the time, it’s much better – it’s very flimsy and one side is broken so it doesn’t telescope like it should, so it was always a royal pain to get into place. so…if you’re able to leave it in place and not touch it, the one i got is good LOL –
i use this backdrop, this light, and this paper
yes, that’s true, it’s very nice to have the space we really need to enjoy our lives at home a bit more 😉
i guess i would just like to transition to city-living at some point in the next couple of decades so i don’t want to get used to TOO much space, you know? for right now, it’s great, and works for where we live.
Thank you! I am trying to figure out where I could put it permanently. I have a lot of decluttering to do.
thank you chris!
i will maybe write a little more about each at some point, but as of right now, we LOVE the peloton, and i REALLY LOVE my allbirds loungers 😉
i could have done without the allbirds runners, honestly, since they’re not the all-in-one shoe i wanted them to be, in that, they’re good for city walking, but not exercising (if you were a runner, for example, or wanted to wear them for light hiking), so you’d have to bring exercise shoes in addition, which as a light packer, i wouldn’t want to do. they’re also hot on me if it’s above 70 degrees outside…
so the loungers are more like what i wanted in the beginning but didn’t know it LOL – i wear them more often, since they’re slip-in and act as more of a slipper at home, that you can also wear out.
the peloton is amazing – whisper quiet, easy to use, and a lot of fun. i do mostly scenic rides now, and there are tons to choose from, but i will get back into doing classes soon, which are really really fun. hard, but they move quickly, and the instructors are really good.
you’re welcome! i would definitely recommend finding a place to put it permanently, but if you can’t, just make sure to put it together correctly lol, and it’ll be easier to take down and store away to not take up too much room. it’s a good backdrop setup for not too much money, and the paper roll will last a very long time unless you’re really hard on it…
Thanks, Grechen – appreciate all the feedback. And must say, very tempted by the Rebekkah kimono, especially on sale. Love it on you.
I think you have the perfect amount of space.. I’m looking for a rental right now and definitely have my eye on a place with an extra room for office furniture/hobbies. Your office looks very nice. Love that fiddle leaf! The BF seems to be done rearranging his office/recreation area.. your post will inspire me to post a picture of his space too!
I totally feel you! We have 2 bedrooms and a loft space for 2 people, and sometimes it seems like too much. But it’s nice to have our separate work/hang out spots (the extra bedroom is also my office, and the loft is his office/gaming area). I’m all for doing what makes sense for your family! Love your pretty house 🙂
Also if I DID want anything this year those Common Projects sneakers, in blush, would be at the top of my list…
Super-chic staying at home outfit! (#2) I love the house tour – it’s so open and sunny plus, my favorite thing is low windows to maximize the light and give your place style details. Yay to (hopefully) selling the condo in Atlanta! I know how having a place on the market for a long time can be such a nerve-wracking thing.
Keep healing! You’re almost there!
