I’m not good with color. I do tend to have a few colors I like to wear, but only one at a time 🙂
But this weekend I met my friend Sharon for some shopping and wanted to try out her suggestion of wearing a navy blue shirt with my pink Anthropologie skirt:
wearing: Anthropologie skirt | Velvet x Calypso tee | J Crew belt
(I picked up the belt at J Crew while we were out. It was $7!!!)
I did like the look, but it never quite felt like “me.” I didn’t feel uncomfortable, but I did feel kind of like a poser. Like I was trying too hard. But I tried it! And now I think I’ll go back to pairing my “colors” with black, white or gray 🙂
Do you color-block?
I feel pretty much the same way you do. I do wear color, but there tends to just be one main color in a outfit for me. I admire color-blockers. I think it’s very fun and chic. It’s just not in my normal sphere of dressing- like stilettos and pants!
But that’s such a cute color combination!!! I don’t think of navy and pink as color blocking, more like a good color combo.
I suppose if you aren’t use to doing lots of colors, it might be too much, but you should definitely give it another try.

I’m a big fan of color blocking. But you have to let yourself get used to it.
You know how I feel about color blocking. LOVE. AND, I love this pairing.

omg…too much!!!
I really like it a lot, but like you, I’d go for the neutrals. Funny, but I just read Sydney’s post about feeling comfortable in what you wear. I think you have to be comfortable to feel like yourself, but I also think that we need to step out of our comfort zone sometimes to try new things. It’s like my husband and I used to do with our kids: “You don’t have to eat a whole serving of something new, just take a taste!”
What’s good about a trend is it’s exciting and can be fun. But if it’s not you, you can always go back to where you’re comfortable with (whatever style it is!). Classic color-block combo, though!
