I did go out a few times over the weekend, and I wore what you see above. But honestly, I spent the majority of the weekend at home (finishing Ken Follett’s Winter of the World, trying to finish my puzzle, and watching the Super Bowl) wearing my Everlane cashmere tunic, Splendid heavyweight leggings (charcoal version is on sale at Nordstrom – I LIVE IN THESE), and UGG boots.
Because, in case you don’t remember, I have distinct HOME clothes that do not intersect with PUBLIC clothes. EVER. I just can’t do it; I always change before leaving the house. I wear at home what I would wear to take Dagny out, so I’m always in “clothes,” never pajamas, but I must get “dressed” in street clothes whenever I leave the house.
Weird, maybe. High maintenance, sure. But I still believe in getting dressed to go out. Even if it’s only to run errands, etc. I don’t even go ANYWHERE after Pure Barre in my workout clothes if I can help it.
Do you have home clothes and public clothes?
How was your weekend??
Oh, do I have “home clothes” vs. “going-out” clothes??? I’m known as the “Queen of Lounge” at our house! I have certain favorite pairs of yoga pants, even more so than leggings. I think it’s because I just feel that yoga pants with their boot cut legs are more flattering to my body shape now that I’m heavier. And I have “nice” sweatshirts by Velvet, Splendid, and Nation LTD that I usually wear layered over a white tank or tissue tee by J Crew.
But if I go out, other than to mail something, or puck up milk at the grocery store, for instance, shopping in Amagansett, I DRESS for it. You have to out here or you’ll likely be ignored by SA’s!
Grechen, I think it’s great you get dressed in public facing clothes when you leave the house! I have seen people wearing pajamas, bedroom slippers, leggings without tops that covered their bottoms, waaay too many intimate tattoos, underwear waving hello to the sun, and other horrors that mercifully escape me at the moment. Where is the pleasure of being home, among one’s nearest and dearest, if you’re going to look like that everywhere? How do you experience that delicious feeling of decompression after coming home at the end of a long day? No, you are not high maintenance AT ALL. You are merely being a decent adult.
