We had SUCH a beautiful week here this week – I feel so lucky, given what some of you guys had to deal with! I’m so excited about this “Wearing” project now that I’m into it a couple of weeks. I can’t wait to look back at the end of each month at what I actually wore. I’m also interested in the numbers: how many different items I wore, how many times I wore certain things, and how many things in my closet didn’t get worn at all.
I’m not great at accounting (duh), or being meticulous about tracking things, so this is new for me, but I think it will be a wonderful exercise. Has anyone else been tracking their wardrobe this week? What have you learned from it?
What I learned this week:
JP cowl neck “sweatshirt” – I’m not going to get rid of this, but I will save it more for wearing at home. The cowl neck bothers me; I can never get it to look/feel right, and it leaves my chest cold if it’s cool enough to wear long sleeves. Conclusion: NO MORE COWL necks for me.
Madewell shirt – I still like this, but if I’m ever going to replace it, or buy a black version, I’d like to find something less oversized, and more “straight” if that makes sense. I’d like it to be still long, but not as wide at my waist as this shirt is, so it’ll be better for layering, and help me define my waist a bit more. Conclusion: for button-down shirts anyway, straighter, and longer is better than wider on my body type.
Rag & Bone jeans – these are definitely warmer weather jeans, but I dug them out of the box I have in the top of my closet of things that I’m still on the fence over to wear to Austin on Monday. They’re keepers, I think, but definitely for warm weather. Conclusion: I don’t need any more distressed jeans – one pair is enough š
I hope you have a great weekend!!!!
I’ve been doing a powerpoint of photos for the week and my choices aren’t surprising to me at all. In honor of pulling out & wearing stuff we haven’t worn in a while, today I grabbed my Doc Marten black wingtip oxfords from 1992 and wore them. Not quite as comfortable as they were in 1992, when I wore them every day with everything, but I still love the style! (I’m sure it’s me that has changed re: comfort, not the shoes! š
I love your new glasses! I opted for vision insurance this year (includes glasses) so I might splurge on more expensive glasses this year if I find something I like…..
I would think getting that shirt tailored would be both easy & relatively inexpensive – take the side seams in to your proportions & it would fit exactly how you wanted, without having to buy a new shirt. Is there any reason you don’t talk much about that option? I’m right between regular sizes & petite & follow several petite bloggers, all of whom bring many items to a tailor to customize fit.
It would be helpful to see the outfits on you… to see how the pieces all work together. Or do you already do that? (sorry, I’m new here…)
I love the idea of tailoring it. I don’t think of that often and I really need too!
yes! i try to do that three times a week – and then do this on fridays and mondays to capture ALL the days, including the weekend, and the ones i don’t get to take outfit pictures of. this week i was traveling, and yesterday was WAY to windy to get a photo, so i couldn’t get as many outfits this week! wednesday’s is linked though…
i HATE to get things tailored…i avoid it like the plague actually, because i’m always disappointed in how pants/jeans turn out after they’re hemmed, and any other projects i’ve taken in, never end up the way i want them to.
with this shirt, it doesn’t have ONE side seam, anyway, there’s a side panel, so i know that would be quite a bit more expensive to fix than just taking in one seam. i can certainly take it and see if there’s anything a tailor could do, but with the way this shirt is made, i really don’t think it would turn out like I want it to, and then i wouldn’t have anything at all…
tailoring in general is a good option, i know, but i have such an aversion to it, that i avoid buying anything that i would need to get tailored, pants included
oh, also, click on the “outfits” link at the very top, or here : http://grechenscloset.com/category/outfit-of-the-day/ – for all my outfits – all of the items mentioned are also featured there…
Brava, Grechen! You have developed such a cohesive style. I think back to your early posts, when you were “getting to know yourself” and I was “getting to know you” and I loved what you put together back then…but oh, how your sense of style has evolved! And so beautifully. And because you chose to put yourself out there everyday, and share your knowledge, experiments, successes and YES, even failures, with all of us, you’ve helped me to grow in confidence, self-knowledge, and develop my own sense of style. Thank you, friend! š ( I feel like I should say, “Honorable Master” like in that old show, “Kung Fu”!)
Thx for reminding me that I actually have vision insurance! DUH, Val!!!
haha! no…i’m not up to that yet!!
oh..vision insurance helps a lot. we don’t have it, but i can use our HSA money for it, and we have a pretty healthy HSA.
man…i wore doc marten boots (burgundy ones!) all the time while i was working at starbucks in the late 90’s. they were my most comfortable shoe! i had sandals too…i don’t think i could pull them off now though š
