That’s a question, really…how do you wear a silk scarf?
I mentioned that I’d fallen in love with this scarf by Yarnz after seeing it in person recently:
I COVET it. It’s so beautiful, and really adds a very special touch to anything, but I don’t know how to wear it. I mean, yes, I KNOW how to physically wear it, but I am much more of a practical-fashion sort of girl; I wear scarves when I’m cold, not because they’re pretty. Those of you who DO wear scarves all the time, please tell me how to start doing that. What’s the secret??
That’s my problem with “fashion.” It’s frivolous, and fun, and playful – al the things I’m NOT. LOL. I don’t know how to “have fun” with my clothes/accessories. Besides wearing color every once in a while…
I am a scarf person. My sister is not a scarf person and claims she can’t wear them. I try to tell her that it’s easy- you just put it on! Maybe it’s just genetic, like being right or left handed? I pretty much want to wear a scarf every day, and I have been this way for at least 10 years. It was easier, I’ll admit, when I was in cold Chicago than it is now that I live in perpetually hot Houston!
Yes, I am wearing a scarf right now 🙂
i personally really like a slightly poufy tie of a silk scarf – kind of like a slightly askew cravat for women. i think it shows off the texture of a silk scarf better. but ever since snoods or infinity scarves came onto the scene, i’ve been loving that super chunky exaggerated ‘collar’ look too for thicker winter scarves!

I wish I could give you some tips. I have a ton of scarves, but only two that are silk or at least silky in texture. Most of the time I tie it around my head and let the ends hang.
The only other suggestions I would have is to wear it like a belt or to go preppy and have it hang around your neck with the triangle shape hanging down.
You know, Hermes has a scarf tutorial online and a million different ideas. You should check that out.

yeah, see, i can’t imagine wearing a scarf here in austin – not when it’s above 70 degrees. i love the look and i am always drawn to outfits with scarves, but i never think i can pull it off.
maybe i’ll get a cheap one and see if i can do it…just put it on, as you say!
thanks!!!
thanks for reminding me about the hermes tutorial! i used to actually link to that somewhere here…i’ll check it out again.
maybe i just need to think of a scarf as a necklace – and wear it almost the same way?
yes! i love the chunky look too. i guess you could wrap a silk scarf around a few times…
The versatility is the best part – my scarves tend to move around throughout the day. I’ve gotten a kick in the past looking at pictures of a party and seeing the scarf go from my neck to my hair to my wrist to a belt, and even a Punky Brewster-style below-the-knee when I’m feeling silly. Also, if you aren’t feeling it midway through the day you can easily stash it in your handbag.
