Sometimes this is difficult. Running my own business is so hard, but the most exciting and fulfilling thing I’ll ever do. It’s still a tough ‘world’ out there in the online fashion blogosphere/website business, and you have to stay agile & flexible to survive. You also have to stay true to your mission, and mine is to help women feel good about their bodies – AS THEY ARE RIGHT NOW – and learn how to dress to look and feel their best all the time.
I’ve struggled with both over the years both before & since I started Grechen’s Closet, and every day it gets easier, but I still have my moments (like right now). I’m bloated and my jeans feel too tight, and I’m tired from getting up at 4:00 this morning. But I’m going to have dinner at my favorite Vietnamese restaurant with my wonderful boyfriend, and I know I’ll not only look better, but I’ll feel better if I just put a little effort into my outfit (honestly, I think I’ll just change from my UGGs to my Robert Clergerie wedges & carry my Marc Jacobs Quilted Ursula bag…I feel better already!).
I already know Grechen’s Closet has one of the most loyal & interested audiences online, and it never ceases to amaze me how much influence we have on online shopping habits, but individual visitor comments like this one make all the late nights and tireless shopping trips 🙂 worthwhile:
Hi,
This may be reiterating the obvious, but I just wanted to say that I’m impressed with your fashion style (as depicted in the photos you post). You really seem to know what works with your body, moreso than the average woman, and even other fashion bloggers. I find this particularly refreshing because you’re not apologetic about your size, and it shows because you dress in a way that flatters your body rather than tries to hide it. This struck me in the photos you posted in your 2 most recent Reviews. Though I myself am small (5’4″, 100 lb), I have tried for years to create a personal style that flatters my body, and I have a long way to go before I reach your level of effortless yet unique style. You illustrate so well the importance of this talent irrespective of body size.
Thank you!
That’s all I want: every women, any size, any shape, to learn to appreciate her body for all its beautiful qualities and work with that knowledge to create an individual style. I’m just here to try and help that process along a little bit in my own small way.
Thank you all so much.
