This is a random post today, just a few things I’ve been thinking about…
If you follow me on Instagram and/or Facebook and/or Twitter, you saw my new Blair sneakers from Vince already – as soon as I got them I put them on. It was way too hot yesterday for me to wear them, and today is rainy, so I might not actually be able to WEAR them wear them for a day or so, but I couldn’t resist wearing them around the house, to walk the dog, watching tv…They’re ridiculously comfortable, like walking on clouds as my friend put it – but you have to size down a half size for them to fit well (I’m wearing a 7.5). These were my birthday present to myself (early, it’s not until Saturday!), for accomplishing so much this year. I finally feel like I’ve hit my stride…
(I got my Vince sneakers at Shopbop, but they’re also at Neiman Marcus and they’re offering $50 off $200 through Friday – sizes are really limited!)
Also, I wonder how you feel about monochromatic dressing? I mostly mean all black here, but it could theoretically be all brown, or all white, or all red 😉 I have never been able to do it. I try sometimes, but something in my brain just recoils against wearing black with black with black; I always break it up with a layer of white or gray underneath, or a different color top or bottom.
I ask because I’ve recently become obsessed with a new-to-me blog, Odyssey Home and her penchant for dressing in all black. I’m also insanely jealous of her wardrobe full of Rick Owens and bamboo in what I assume is her backyard:
Are you not dying? The key, it seems, to monochromatic dressing is that at least one of the pieces must have a different texture or some interesting details like draping, or leather trim, or suede fringe. If you’re wearing all “flat” black pieces, then the outfit would be very boring indeed. Honestly, if I tried to do all black right now, that’s what would happen – I don’t have enough black pieces (funnily enough) that are “interesting” enough to incorporate into an all black outfit. But that is now my goal. And I could be off to a good start with my new Vince sneakers, the texture of the hair provides a lot of interest…
What do you think? do you dress in all black? how do you do it? Would you do it??
Well, you know how I feel about monochrome dressing.. 😉 It’s an honor to be featured, so thank you! Dressing in all black is easy and it comes naturally for me. I have plenty of color in my life, so I don’t crave it in my wardrobe. Most of my items are same designer. Everything goes with everything. It’s basically effortless.
I quite like your sneakers. Vince is a great brand.
I like those snazzy sneaks. I also wish you an early, happy birthday! I’m delighted that I discovered your site, and look forward to reading more. I checked out Odyssey, and noticed that she also lives in Austin. Maybe you could “stalk her closets.” Although I appreciate her sophisticated style, I wanna wrap a bright scarf around her neck. I do my own version of monochrome, but with subtle variations. But I’m not a big, black wearer. I far prefer softer neutrals like: taupe, mushroom, coffee and creme. Now, I need a latte.
haha, yes, i do like softer neutrals as well, but i always enjoy black as a “base” layer, so i think that sometimes I could pull-off all black…we’ll see!
thanks for the early birthday wishes 🙂
thanks for stopping by 🙂
i love vince shoes, they’re always exactly the right thing, and so comfortable if you can get the sizing right…
I love those sneakers! I also bought haircalf lowtops this season, but mine are blue leopard, by the Gap.
I really love Vince and would dress in just that brand if I could afford it. I think they offer a fair amount in black that has enough design to it to read as special.
Yay, you got them!!! Aren’t they the most comfortable!? The construction is really beautiful, I mean I know they are a sneaker but the leather interior is so well put together! Gorgeous:) Happy, happy early birthday to you!!!!!
I’ve been a fan of Stephanie’s for a few years…great personal style.
oh and I forgot to say that if you start a James Perse thing I would be thrilled….count me in!
Oh I think all black is the next big thing. Seen it around, a lot. And a nice counter-trend to mixing patterns and pops of color etc.
Look! Saw these and thought of you

BEST SHOES EVER. you totally pushed me over the edge. i might have to get another pair for summer 😉
They do a coupon code this time of the year and if u know a student they give students 20% off.
i know…i’m still not convinced i can justify cashmere pants. i mean…they’d be amazing, but i’m not sure i’m ready to give up something else for those, you know? gotta think on it a while!
That makes sense. I am always worried about pilling. Especially on the inner thighs… I guess it’s good I can talk myself in and out of anything haha.
