(please ignore the resting bitch face and focus on the dress!)
James Perse tucked raglan dress | on sale at Shopbop + % off, I’m wearing size 2

Here are some other photos from my photo shoot a few weeks ago. I was dismayed to notice while looking through the photos trying to choose the final edits that I had “resting bitch face” in most of them. Now, normally, I wouldn’t show you pictures with RBF, but I have no choice in this situation because that’s what I have. I suppose I could crop out my head, as I used to do WAY back in my early blogging days, but then again, as some people who know me in person could probably attest, this is what I look like much of the time; put out, pre-occupied, and pissed off. I was not any of those at this moment, but those of you who are familiar with RBF are probably aware, it just sneaks up when you least expect it. Et Viola!
Anyway…since my James Perse tucked raglan dress is on sale now at Shopbop + up to 25% off depending on your order amount, I wanted to show it to you. I highly recommend it, and have worn it a lot lately, multiple ways; as with all JP fitted dresses, it’s a foundation piece, easy to layer.
And then, speaking of the Shopbop code, here are just a few more of my favorite things on sale (or not on sale) at the moment, and then 15% off with your order over $250, 20% off with your order over $500 or 25% off with your order over $1,000. I placed my order early yesterday with some credits I have at Shopbop and couldn’t resist these Denim x Alexander Wang jeans (because as you know, I have a denim problem) + these high-waisted David Lerner coated leggings (because after this week, that’s all I’ll be able to fit into…).
Have you ordered anything from Shopbop? Have your eye on anything?

Oh my, Grechen, you look incredible in that dress! Love it on you. I saw this same dress in a blue color at Nordstrom, and it was on sale for a little less $140 and some change. I think I like it in black better though…just looks very elegant! I’m really tempted but not sure if I should buy it ‘cuz I’ve been buying myself too many things already! As far as the Shop Bop sale, I so far bought a non-clothes item–the bone china mug with the lipstick imprint on it. Thought it would make a cute gift for my cousin! 🙂
thank you henny! i tried that blue one on actually, when i was at nordstrom a while ago and thought the color was very pretty. i just know that it would be something i’d not end up wearing as much as black…
you have lucky family /friends! i love that mug, it’s so cute.
Oh boy, Grechen, I ended up buying the dress in black, a couple more mugs, a Kate Spade pen set, and that Madewell Poncho!!! The dress and poncho are for me…okay that’s it, no more buying for me! I think I will get a lot of use out of that dress too though. I got 15% off, btw, not bad 🙂
RBF!!! Hahaha!!! It’s the “chic blogger look,” right?
But that dress is AMAZING on you. No wonder you’ve gotten so many women to buy it. (Btw, the links are all taking me to the dress! Kismet?!?) I haven’t been shopping much, other than for others, and replacing basics. But I DID buy a poncho from ASOS that I love!

haha!!! i fixed the links i think. i REALLY want everyone to have one of those dresses apparently 😉
i can’t bring the poncho up for some reason. i’ll keep trying!
Hi Grechen, I stumbled upon your blog while searching for reviews of Everlane. (Thanks!) I have never heard of James Perse, and I’m intrigued. I am curious how sturdy the material is in this dress. I have very dimply thighs, would I need to wear a layer under the dress, or does the dress smooth over the lumps? Thanks in advance,
Holly
Hi holly! I also have very dimply thighs and saddlebags. For the most part I don’t feel like I always HAVE to wear a layer underneath my Jp dresses but I feel better when I do…I have a couple of pairs of spanx I’ll wear sometimes when I want to feel more held in. Otherwise if I wear a long cardigan or something over I don’t wear anything. Honestly the double layers, ruching, tucking and etc that James Perse does to his dresses is what makes me love them so much for my hips/saddlebags – they are so good at holding things in. I just sometimes want more so I’ll wear spanx – but that’s just my preference.
Hope that helps!! Please let me know if you have any more questions.
Thanks for the reply, I too have the saddle bags, so always looking for a flattering dress. I’m excited to try one of these. I will be reading your blog from now on. Thanks again!
you’re welcome holly! if you browse through my outfits with james perse, you’ll see many more examples + other things: http://grechenscloset.com/category/james-perse-2/ – i think you will like ruched dresses the best, but the heavier moleskine pieces that are out now (like this skirt) are also very good and compressive, even without the ruching.
please let me know if you have any more questions about anything or if you’re looking at a particular piece and want my opinion. i’m a bit of a james perse fanatic and am always happy to convert someone new over to the tribe LOL
