yay 🙂 happy Friday !!
This dress is an “old” standby by now, something I reach for in the depths of summer when I don’t want to wear anything that touches my skin, or that I wear for just hanging around the house. I put it on recently and wondered to myself what I would do if anything ever happened to it, or if Oak stopped making it. I used to panic about things like that, and want to stockpile multiple colors and/or even buy a duplicate or two to hold on to. Now, I resist that, and just try to appreciate what I have, instead of letting myself focus too much on a future without it…
Anyway, when I wore it yesterday I noticed it falls off my shoulder now much more than it used to, which annoys me slightly. I do always wear a strapless bra or tube top underneath so my bra straps never show, but I don’t like to fuss with things too much, and I found myself messing with keeping it on my shoulder. So, I’m glad I don’t have another one in this size waiting in the wings…if I was to replace it, I’d get the small anyway.
It’s still not quite hot enough to wear this much here, but this dress is one of the things I have looked forward to wearing each summer since I got it; it’s the easiest dress ever. Not very fancy, so not appropriate for much besides running around or weekend fun, but that’s okay, everything doesn’t have to work for everything, you know?
I have a quiet weekend planned here compared to last weekend, and quite frankly, I’m still getting “over” my mom being back at home, it was so nice having her here and just hanging out for a few days. That, I think, is the hardest part of getting older and being so far away from family…
I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
Oh, and I ordered the new Everlane street sandal and promptly sent them back 5 minutes after I received them. First, they were absolutely a half-size big on me, and also, I was worried about the elastic back strap. The whole strap was elastic, and I thought that it was just a bit more loose than I thought it should be. I wanted them to be cute, and fit, because I like the look of them generally, but they weren’t, and I don’t think I liked them enough to re-order in the smaller size. Did anyone else order a pair of the new sandals?
I was thinking about ordering those Everlane sandals even though I knew they’d disappoint me. So thank you for giving me a reason not to get them.
I really hate when clothes slide off my shoulder. A strapless bra isn’t an option for me so I have to rely on double stick tape. In truth anything I have to do that with won’t get worn very often though. I had the Hackwith basics v-neck dress taken in just a little along the center seam at the top and I’m hoping that’ll solve the problem with that particular piece. (I haven’t worn it yet since getting that done.) Not sure if you have an option like that for this dress.
Sew bra strap holders to the dress ! Growing up, my mom did that for me on summer dresses, and I also have a Cerruti dress from 1999 which was sold like that – I have a picture if I could upload it ?
i know what you’re talking about! i’ve had a couple dresses with those in them. i don’t wear a ‘normal’ bra with this dress anyway, so that wouldn’t be a solution for me, but that’s a good idea for christine if the tailoring didn’t help…
thanks for the suggestion!!! i always forget about that, but it’s a really good idea and pretty easy fix for that issue.
Right – yes! I’ve had a couple of things with these holders – little loops of fabric with snaps. I’ll keep that in mind -thank you for the reminder! 🙂
I ordered the sandals and slides. I sent the slides back because they were very difficult to walk in. I kept the sandals and llove them. I agree with Grechen- maybe I could downsize half a size but not sure with the very pointy toe box. They are comfy. I traveled all day yesterday and today I’ve been walking on cobblestones. No blisters. My foot is very narrow.
thanks for the reviews!! i’m so glad they work for you. do you find the elastic keeps your foot in place pretty well?
I was just wondering that about the slides. Thanks for the comment!
You ROCK that Oak dress!! So much so that I’ve gone ahead and ordered I t even though I don’t usually wear this style But is your link for the exact same dress? Even though it’s 2 years old?
(I just wish Shopbop still carried it as I had to pay $45 extra for intl shipping from Oak site but all my current wardrobe favourites are from your recommendations so I have great hopes for this one too!). xx
Yes. That’s the same dress- they’ve made the style for a while…
I know you’ll love it 😉 let me know when you get it!!
I didn’t jump fast enough ( or apparently high enough!) when Shopbop had this on-Sale at the end of the season last year. And I STILL want it….A sure sign that it’s meant to be. And it WILL happen this year!
For anyone interested in black slides with a bit of cushioning, I love the ones I just purchased from Charlotte Stone!
i really thought you had this dress already!!
which charlotte stone sandals did you get? i have that pair of double strap slides but i don’t wear them very often. i should…
I got “The Edie” in black and they are SO comfy! I’m going to be wearing them all summer long….if it ever gets warm around here. (Failed to “push the button” on the dress at the right time! 🙁 )
