Maybe it’s because I’m getting older (38 soon), but Tory Burch is starting to grow on me. Yes, I have a pair of pink patent Revas that I LOVE, and one basic brown wool cardigan by Tory Burch I also love, but I’ve never really been a HUGE fan of her aesthetic; it’s always felt kind of “old” to me (LOL). But now, I’m finding more and more that I appreciate, and think could spruce up my wardrobe a little bit. Maybe bring a few ladylike pieces into it? The more I look at her pieces, though, I see that they’re classic, but interesting, if not a little overpriced to be honest.
Then I got this newsletter just now, and fell hard for the coat & bag:
I love the coat, but never wear one, so wouldn’t actually buy it, but I love the color, texture, and sleeve length – and how they’re paired with arm warmers. How chic! But the bag is what really caught my eye. The only problem is, it doesn’t exist. I mean, it does, but this bag in the newsletter CLEARLY has a shoulder strap, and the Carson Satchel via the website does not. Am I wrong? Am I making up the shoulder strap in the newsletter?
Anyway, you know how I love little interesting details on my bags, and the chains going round definitely add a little edge to a classic satchel. But as much as I love my Alexander Wang Rocco bag, any other satchel/tote that I buy, I’d like it to include a shoulder strap. Just because.
What do you think about Tory Burch? Does anything appeal to you?
Grechen,
If you like the shape and details on that TB bag, then perhaps you’ll like the Cary by Chloe. However it does not have a shoulder strap.
it’s inevitable that whenever I go to Last Call, I’ll pull out something I think is really cute from the sales rack and find that it’s by Tory Burch. Then I quickly put it back! lol I think that bag is really great though and it seems like her stuff is pretty classic with a bit of interest.
You’re right: It definitely has a shoulder strap in the promo pic. I hate when they do that and then change what the consumer can purchase!
Your comment about being older at 38 made me LOL! Grechen, I just turned 50 and believe me, you do end up say, “adapting” your style to be appropriate (you know those women who look 23 from behind and then turn around and they’re 60? SCARY!!!). But basically, my style has been the same for the past 10 yrs. or so. I found it…it works…and I’m sticking with it!
You are not getting old; Tory Burch has completely changed her aesthetic over the past few seasons. She is appealing to consumers who wants an updated, but still timeless look. I would never wear one of the loud-print tunics of her early fame, but I now find myself wanting pieces in her fall collection. The bags have also vastly improved since she dropped the prominent logo placement.
yeah, i have noticed that she’s changed a bit over the years. obviously, i’m liking the direction she’s going…
totally agree with you about the bags, and Fall collection, i can see myself in a lot of it!
i definitely see my style evolving a bit – i’d like to include more jackets/blazers, dark jeans and simple dresses than i do currently. still casual, but more “put together” maybe? and more ladylike. that’s how my fiance wants me to dress – more ladylike – not that i really understand what that means, but i think a nice jacket and a few blouses might do it 😉
I think Tory Burch’s style is less about age and more about her esthetic–which strikes me as part Upper Eastside, part Hamptons, part Talitha Getty. And she’s been designing–and wearing–those clothes since she was in her late 30s. (She’s 44 now.) I’m not sure her core style has changed that much over the years. But whatever it is, it’s never been my style–except for her leather jackets which I find beautiful. I have a scalloped edge jacket in a thin leather navy jacket and a scalloped edge thin leather coat in brown that I completely love. Last year she had a great cropped leather jacket I lusted after but never bought.
Loved that navy scallop leather jacket by Tory Burch. Couldn’t get it last season in size 6 0r 8. Is it still available anywhere?
