I love a good toe-ring sandal. My holy grail pair is the Cydwoq pair above – it has been for several years, since I discovered Cydwoq, which is made in California of Italian vegetable-tanned leather. I tried this pair on a couple years ago at a store in Austin and they were immediately comfortable, and I knew I’d be obsessing about them until I decide to get them. I really feel like I’m good with flat sandals for now though, so I’ll probably continue to hold off until next year; that Cydwoq style is a classic, so I don’t think it’s going anywhere.
I also LOVE the ATP Atelier for a much more “minimal” look, although it is VERY flat, and the Cydwoq has much more support/molds to your foot. Of course, my Mephisto Helen sandals have a toe-ring, but they are a more casual/orthopedic/normcore style than I like to wear ALL the time…
There are a lot of good options out there, in many different styles, and price points. At the high end, the Pedro Garcia pair is gorgeous, and I’ve heard they’re comfortable. And Gentle Souls are very comfortable, I’m just not feeling a platform version right now.
How do you feel about toe-ring sandals? Do you like the style? or do you prefer thongs? double-strap sandals?

Ah, the toe bondage shoe! I had a pair for years that just went into the goodwill pile last weekend, actually. They’re too flat for me to wear now – very much like that K. Jacques style you posted.
My toes like a little more wiggle room these days, so I won’t be looking for a replacement.
I have a pair of Cydwoq toe ring sandals – a little different than the ones above – and I absolutely adore them. They have great support with their curved ergonomic footbed, and I always have people asking me about them on the rare occasions that I wear them. (I ‘save’ them because I like them so much). Such a great local company, embodying all the sustainable values that you talk about. The bottom of their sandals are leather, so, like many wearers, I had a cobbler put rubber treads on the sole so they last forever. I’ve had them for a long time and they look brand new. I will say that unless something has changed in the last couple years, Cydwoq’s are known to have wildly inconsistent sizing which makes them tricky to buy online. However, anyone who carries them, like the Pedshoes folks, knows this and are usually really skilled at converting each shoe into the right size.
I’ve had a few pair of the Birkenstock Mayari over the years, and they are probably my favorite Birkenstock style. I really rock that ortho/normcore style, lol.
Prefer? Can’t say I prefer thongs, since they usually give me a blister between my toes. But for some odd reason, I’ve defaulted to them without even considering toe-ring sandals. (“Ok, Val, engage brain…”) I really should try the Cydwoq’s since I love the look, the company, and the hand-made aspect. And there are several shops out here that sell them.
Cute choices!
I love me some good ugly normcore shoes, I wish they weren’t so pricey. I just found some ugly Gentle Souls Teva-esque mashups with Balenciaga-like studs on the Off Fifth website. They are glorious in their hideousness. We’ll see if I keep them, depends on how much they make my boyfriend retch.
I love your comment. Totally relate.
haha! that’s a good gauge. i find that the more my husband hates something, the more i like it 😉
Cute shoes! Living in my no. 6 criss cross sandals this summer as their cost takes up my entire summer shoe budget. And still wear Birkenstocks too….I’m very much a clog person as i have difficult feet and they almost always work for me in terms of both style and comfort! And i refuse to sacrifice either, which severely limits my choices!
i find clogs very comfortable, the wood sole seems give me great support…in addition to footbed sandals like my birkenstock or mephisto sandals. i just don’t wear my no6 clogs as often as i used to…
as you probably know, i’m in atlanta at the moment and abadabba’s carries cydwoq, so i thought i’d go and see if i could track down this pair and try it on again. where did you get yours?
“Man Repellant Factor”
I have some birkenstock gizeh sandals, but it now seems everyone is wearing the old school arizona style – i love those too but am going to wear out my current ones first (and i have three pairs which is excessive!)
yes, exactly 🙂
You know, I can’t quite remember where I got mine. Not in Atlanta. It’s possible I got them in Canada at a Gravity Pope, which is the harbinger of all cool shoes for Canadian shoppers. There is an Abbadabba close to wear I live, and thought it has gone a little normcore, it is a fun place to shop.
