Rolo Crossback dress at Anthropologie – $118
Softshade sweatshirt dress at Madewell – $118
Ah…the search for the “perfect” Summer dress. Is there such a thing? Is there only one? I don’t know, but I kind of enjoy the search ๐ So far, I’ve found these two to be the best contenders for “perfect” Summer dresses. I actually owned the first one for about 24 hours, but took it back because it was a little low cut in the front for my taste, and I could see too much of my knees. I loved the way it fit though, the back is amazing, and completely covered up my bra straps (although I wouldn’t have worn a bra with this dress – it doesn’t need one if you’re small). The large gaped just a bit in the waist at the back, so I think I would have done better with a medium, but then it REALLY would have been too short.
If YOU don’t have neuroses about your knees and legs, then the Anthropologie dress is perfect – I thought it was very flattering on (I loved it on Sydney) and really comfortable for lounging around outside or visits to the park. The Madewell dress is also really cute and flattering on, but not on me unfortunately (or fortunately, as it may be!). Again, it’s a little too short for me, and I thought the pleating on the skirt added a bit too much bulk to my hips. I love the cut of the top though, and you’re not as hippy as I am, this dress would be perfect on you. It was perfect on Sharon.
Have you found the perfect Summer dress? What is it? Or is it a never-ending search for you too?
My favorite is the T by Alexander Wang dress that you have raved about for years. I bought mine last summer in grey and I wear it all summer long. It can be casual without a belt and a light cardigan but I wear it to work with a belt and a blazer all the time too.
The best thing about it is that it feels amazing on and just floats to the floor. Wearing it makes me smile,
i do still love that dress, i just wish it was a little shorter so i felt better wearing it with flats. i do knot one side up so it doesn’t fall to the floor, but i guess i don’t wear it as often as i would if it was shorter. but yes, it drapes beautifully. it’s a brilliant dress, i just wish he’d been able to come up with something similar – but different – this season. i’ve been kind of disappointed lately.
FYI – both links are going to the antro dress.
I love both of these, but agree with you on the length. Sadly, I’m sure they would be too short (i.e., above knee!) on me.
I am still searching for the perfect dress! I loved that one from Anthro, but didn’t love the pleating…..
I just bought a couple of summer dresses on J Crew: The strapless (almost said “topless”–now there’s a Freudian slip!) “Aimee” gauzy maxi: http://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/swim/beachcoverups/PRDOVR~80316/99102687758/ENE~1+2+3+22+4294967294+20~~~0~15~all~mode+matchallany~~~~~aimee/80316.jsp
and the “Karie” dress: http://www.jcrew.com/womens_special_shops/catalogjcrewcomexclusives/dresses/PRDOVR~83485/99102704164/ENE~1+2+3+22+4294967294+20~~~20+17+4294967097~15~~~~~~~/83485.jsp
just to wear around town running errands or at home. They looked comfy to me. I’ll tell you how they fit when I actually try them on!
i love both of those…i keep looking at that strapless maxi dress, wondering if i should try it…
I just purchased that Madewell dress, it is awesome
