It’s that time, right? When we start dreaming of spring, warmer weather and sunshine? Along with that always comes clothing and accessories in soft pastels, and more color than we usually see for fall/winter. The theory being that “color” cheers us, and brings us out of the winter doldrums. Unless you’re like me, and shocked by color; unsure what to do with it….
I will admit though, I have a thing for pink. And I can work with lighter, more subdued colors (because they go beautifully with gray and black!):
1 A GOLD E light wash Jamie jeans (made from organic & recycled cotton) | $168 – I love these, and am intrigued by lighter denim for spring/summer, especially this VERY responsible pair!
2 Coclico Oahu mules* | $350
3 La Garconne X Save Khaki sweatshirt (made in the US) | $90 – love this!!! would totally wear it with my black jeans
4 Amour Vert Brie cocoon cardigan (100% merino wool, sustainably sourced) | $158 – HUGE fan of cocoon cardigans
5 Coclico Koi sandal* | $385
6 Baggu Box purse (made in the US) | $220
(not pictured, but honorable mention: Eileen Fisher’s silk wide leg ankle pant in blue steel is so pretty!!!)
*Coclico shoes: (Coclico is serious about using sustainable materials, sourcing locally, and expert craftsmanship) – Garmentory has a really nice selection of new shoes (Neiman Marcus has REALLY GREAT sale prices), and if you use my referral link for Garmentory you’ll get a $20 account credit (and I will too). I love this pair of cloud white flats on sale at Amazon also. I don’t own a pair of Coclico shoes, but from what I’ve tried on, I think they seem to run a half size small.
How do you feel about soft neutrals? pastel colors for clothing/accessories/shoes? Do you look forward to embracing more color as the weather warms up? or stick with your “usual” palette?
Happy Monday!!
RE: Coclico – I have two pairs of sandals from the brand, both run VERY small. I would recommend trying both a full and half size larger if you can’t try on in the store (and presuming that you are permitted returns with the order!). Both pairs are at least 5 yrs old and still in great condition. They have beautiful wood block heels that are just a little bit different, without screaming “hey everyone look at my shoes!!!”.
I typically wear a US7, and my Coclicos are both 38s.
In the fall, I bought a blush pink boyfriend sweater from Loft (not sustainable, but I wear it daily when it’s cold) and it’s been my go-to cardigan all winter. It works really well with navy, too, which I wear a lot. This shade of pink is my very favorite color, but I don’t wear it often because I feel like it makes me look washed out. I do like it as an accent, and even have pillow covers in the color. 🙂
I wear white but look awful in those other soft colors you’ve posted – creams, blush, pink etc. I almost never wear anything pastel. Heck, I rarely wear grey! As I switch to warmer temps, my colors & shapes tend to stay the same but I change fabrics. And I go brighter – I wear a lot of turquoise in the summer (tops, not the jewelry – I do like turquoise stones but it’s difficult to find jewelry that isn’t southwestern, which is not my style….)
Big fan of Coclico and agree they run small and most styles are on the narrow side. I have (too) many pairs, all a size 39, and I’m a US 8 or 8.5.
I love soft shades of pink, blush and beigey pink but rarely wear them because I also feel like they wash me out. Not as much as a pale blue, which can really make me go dead. Wish I could figure a way to wear them.
Hi Grechen,
I’m happy to read you’re preparing for Spring. Spring feels a long way off here in Massachusetts. I’m getting my workouts in shoveling snow and snowshoeing! Wearing old, old, old baggy jeans, an Ibex undershirt, and oversized thrifted wool sweater with my birks (and of course, think wool socks). I love the jeans you posted today but the idea of exposing my ankles when the temp.’s and wind are doing what they’re doing makes me laugh:)
Thanks!
I mean ‘thick’ wool socks:)
I’m in NC and was taunting my Boston friends yesterday that it was 82 and I was out gardening while they were shoveling from the most recent storm 🙂 Oh well – they get back at me come August when I’m dying in the heat & humidity….
well, i am very lucky that here in texas we’ve had a mild winter – it was in the 80’s on saturday 🙂
so we get peeks of spring here and there in the midst of colder weather, but it’s not been very cold here at all…
Your featured choices are GORGEOUS! I love these shades, but pastel neutrals don’t look very good on me. I tend to have a washed-out, wan look. But that doesn’t mean I couldn’t do the shoes (both pairs are sooo beautiful!) or a handbag. I kind of like that idea with black, grey or navy.
