James Perse linen button up shirt | on sale

So here’s one of the pieces I bought during the James Perse summer sale – the canvas linen pocket button up shirt. I’m honestly conflicted about this shirt. If it wasn’t final sale, I probably would have sent it back after trying it on. The fit is nice everywhere except the upper arms, which are a little snug. And it’s a little tight in the chest.
Overall, it’s a very good “classic” linen shirt, but maybe a little underwhelming for the price. Perhaps I’ve reached peak linen saturation? I also somehow always want a black button-up shirt, but never wear them, preferring white tops instead. When will I stop trying to buy black button up shirts??
So, I’m not sure what I’m going to do with it, I’ll probably try and keep it at least through next summer and try to wear it.
The linen quality seems very good, maybe about the same weight as my Eileen Fisher pieces, and lighter-weight than Elizabeth Suzann and Everlane’s Boyfriend linen shirt. It’s not entirely comfortable right off – it’s a little scratchy – but as I’ve experienced with all my linen up until now, it should soften up nicely with wear and washing.

I always wear black linen shirts like jackets, over a white top. But I haven’t owened one for a while now. Instead, I have a black linen knit cardigan which serves the same purpose.
The shirt looks great on your! A tailored look really suits you.
I’m surprised that you don’t like it. Honestly, it doesn’t look too small in the photos (maybe because it’s black???). It looks just right. But once again, YOU have to be the one who wants to wear it and de idea whether or not you’re comfortable in it.
i do like it, just not ENOUGH, you know? like i feel like i would like it better if it was $89? or $59? not $129…
Love the outfit on you!
Gotcha! ( Wouldn’t everything? Oh, and that was *decide)
I just got my JP order and am a little disappointed in the vintage fleece zip hoodie. It’s not as soft as I’d hoped and the marshmallow color is much more beige in person rather than the more white it appeared online.
I also got the black double split midi skirt, a couple of high gauge tees, and a sports bra and I love them all!! The skirt is so soft and comfortable….wish the hoodie was closer to this fabrication.
I was hard eyeing that skirt in the charcoal color. I talked myself in/out of it half a dozen time. Would you mind talking on the fit and size? I am 5’7″ and fall somewhere between a 1-2 but skew towards size 1. I am curious as to the length on me (as it would it hit me at a certain awkward point) and would the split make it okay for a casual (very) work environment.
Thanks for any response!
I’d go for the 1 if between sizes. I’m 5’6″ but with a long torso, short legs. I have it on up higher at my natural waist and the hem falls mid-calf, but I think the split makes it more flattering along the leg as it does hit at the widest part of my calf. I think you can style it ultra casually with a tee and sneaks or dressed up with a nicer top for work. I’ll probably wear it to work one of my everlane silk blouses and mules.
Oh thank you for the reply! Very helpful information…I too have a long torso with shorter legs. Your mention of how to wear it makes me even more tempted to buy it as I have a gorgeous silk blouse from Everlane that might just look smashing with the skirt and a pair of pewter loafers.
