Eileen Fisher organic handkerchief linen dress | $129 (I’m wearing an XS, regular length)
Robert Clergerie Nalo wedges | 30% off at La Garconne w/code SPECIAL30
Jas M.B Wings traveler bag | 5 or so years old
Here’s a better look at the Eileen Fisher linen dress I mentioned in my post last week. It is truly the easiest thing to wear, and I love the 3/4 sleeves, although I generally roll them up to my elbows. In this picture, I’m wearing a slip, but normally I wear boyshorts and a “regular” bra.
Sizing note: I tried on the medium in this as well; my store had only the XS and Medium in stock. I initially liked the way the medium fit too, it was quite big, but still nice. When I tried on the XS, I liked it better on me because it fits better up top, but who’s to say I wouldn’t have also liked the small? My point is that there’s a difference but not a HUGE difference in the sizing- it’s so subtle, you may be happy with a medium, even if you usually take a large, or whatever.
Again, EF sizing is sort of complicated, and hard to pin down, but I’ve found it’s worth the trial and error.
This week, I’ll talk more about my other linen pieces: Elizabeth Suzann, James Perse, Everlane, Zady, Grana…and finish up my “summer of linen” series. And finally, I’ll tell you my FAVORITE LINEN piece and why 🙂
Oh, and I just ordered this Amour Vert linen tee, because it’s nearly identical to a Joie one I had and loved until it fell apart a few years ago. I hope it’s even better than that one. This is my first order from Amour Vert, but I’m looking forward to more; I also had this skirt in my cart, but it sold out before I could checkout. If you’re interested in anything, use my referral link for a $25 credit (I’ll get one too).
In the meantime, you tell me yours. Favorite linen, that is…
*edited to add: speaking of linen…Fog Linen works is having a sale, some great pieces!!
I don’t have any linen from the same shops as you. My favorite shop for linen is the Etsy shop Not Perfect Linen.
https://www.etsy.com/shop/notPERFECTLINEN
It’s a small family shop in Lithuania with excellent customer service, beautiful linen, and great craftsmanship. What I love most is I can customize the item on length or even the shape of the neck. I feel like I am getting a one of a kind piece when they’ve sewn up something with the requested changes. The prices are mostly under $100 also!
I love this dress on you! (Even more than On the EF model!) Are you wearing the black or the sapphire?
My current favourite linen dress is the Emerson Fry V-neck column dress (in slate). But I have the Elizabeth Suzann Georgia dress in navy linen on its way to me now so maybe I’ll have a new favourite soon!
It’s black. Sorry forgot to mention that!!
I just had a not perfect linen dress come through slowre! It sold very quickly. I loved it; the linen was lovely.
Wow the comments under this dress on the website make it seem like this dress is incredibly sheer, but your photos seem to disprove that! – I might try a slip if I was going to wear it into the office, but otherwise I don’t think I would bother. Not sure about small or medium, though. I may have to order both and send one back!
Oh and I didn’t see if you got Petite or Regular length on that dress. I know you’re a bit shorter than I am, and I like that length on you.
I’m wearing a regular size. And in this picture I am wearing a slip but normally i only wear boy shorts and a normal bra. I don’t find it extremely sheer at all…it’s definitely not opaque but I am comfortable wearing boy shorts underneath.
I’m Lithuanian and happy to read you like our linen! 🙂 Lithuanian linen is famous in Europe and I notice that more and more shops in the U.S. carry Lithuanian linen items as well.
I just have to say that you look radiant in this post. Glowing and oh so happy!
On a different note…my JP sale item purchase which was done “blindly” as I have never put my hands on any of his clothing much less tried on, turned out to be a WIN! It was through your blog that I first learned of JP several months ago and so happy I took the chance, albeit thanks to your (and other’s) helpful comments regarding sizing. I ordered the shirred dress in black – size 1 and would have gotten the other color had I not hesitated for too long and it had sold out.
It is so amazingly flattering and utterly comfortable and that combo makes for a near magical confidence boosting garment. I will now have to stalk for JP sales as for now I just can’t justify paying full price for the clothing.
Oh wow! Thank you for sharing. I took a glance at their storefront and they have some lovely pieces that I am very interested in.
Love it! The runched look of the sleeves is especially interesting. This dress might transition well into late summer/early fall when paired with leggings and a scarf.
I love it, too, and I’ve got my eye on a few things from that etsy shop! I once purchased Lithuanian linen online to reupholster a chair and it’s still great after all these years!
Cute dress on you, Grechen! Love the navy and 3/4 sleeves. I’m totally into dresses. Slip on and go…no fussing with coordinates. Looking forward to your post on your fave linen piece.
This dress does look good on you – Isn’t it the best thing to wear when it’s hot ?!
thank you! and yes 🙂
so cool!!!
thank you!! actually, mine is black 🙂
and that’s exactly why i’m such a dress fan – no thought necessary.
thank you, yes, and i like it over jeans as well.
J’aime Amour Vert, at least through the internet, but sadly they do not ship to Canada ( even though I pointed out to them that we speak French too!)
Quelle tragedie for cross-border (and cross-cultural) fashion. ;-(
they sell some pieces on garmentory, or at least there have been some in the past – and garmentory boutiques all ship to canada 🙂
Woo hoo! I’m Lithuanian too and am loving these shout outs! 🙂
Dear Grechen – you look beautiful and relaxed in all of your photos – love the Paper bag waist long skirt and blush colored top –
PS- got the illustrated book of the Life -Changing Magic of Tidying Up – I see my challenge is living with someone who is the antithesis of this magic . I’m hoping my tidying will rub off 🙂
Also- I am loving my white and blue Eileen Icon- box tops in linen with everything. Shyloh linen separates from Italy- taupe skirt, black wide leg pants and a dress in light grey that my boyfriend says looks like a tablecloth- that would be my linen summer capsule.
Hot as hell here, Gena
Cute dress on you! But I really wanted to comment on how incredible you look with your new hair. I know a shorter style can be an adjustment, and sometimes even cause second thoughts, but seriously, every post I’ve seen since you got it chopped, you look fresher, more radiant and extra chic! (You looked all these things before, but this just takes it to the next level!). Brava!
thank you ruth 🙂
it was a HUGE adjustment, and i really didn’t like it at first, but i’m over it!! i think shorter hair suits me so much better…
ha! sounds like something my husband would say about my clothes!!
i was wearing my overalls yesterday when he came home and he asked me if I was “harvesting” our dinner (I was making dinner at the time)
thank you!
I love this look on you – seems just a little different than usual, but still Grechen.
