I’ve always been a huge fan of Steven Alan; I really love the boy-inspired fits, simple designs and easy aesthetic. But I always had this sinking feeling that nothing would fit me because my impression was that his clothes were for models and/or hipsters. Of which, I am neither.
It wasn’t until last week that I got to try any of his pieces in person at a trunk show for a local boutique, By George. First, I tried on a silk dress, and if it wasn’t so sad, it would be comical; the dress fit me, but it was STUCK to my hips like shrink wrap, and the top was two sizes too big…totally confirming my theory that his clothes are meant for girls (the operative word here) with no hips. But I also tried on this shirt dress:
With the caveat that I tried it on OVER the dress I was already wearing (which was kind of bulky) and it wouldn’t button, I really really liked it. I envisioned wearing it over a tank dress, either open, or tied loosely (so it wasn’t obvious that it wouldn’t button…) and thought about buying it, but not for long, because it was full-price. Now during the sample sale, it’s 50% off – $99 – and I’d really LIKE to get it, but I’m not going to…
There are lots of great deals though, and I’m still tempted…will you pick anything up?
whoa that was a dangerous sale! (thanks for the tip! :o)
LOVE that dress, Grechen! I’m trying to purchase it in the floral print, BUT, a word of warning: the site is experiencing MONDO traffic overload due to the sale. Spent at least an hour trying
to put items in my cart, and now it won’t process my order. Fingers crossed! 🙁
did you end up getting anything??
i was able to get some shirts (reverse seam + heddy, yay!) yesterday afternoon without any website issues. it also looks like they’re replenishing the inventory in cycles, so even if sizes are sold out click back in a while…
