As we do here in Texas, we’ve skipped spring and gone straight to summer. It’s already HOT in the afternoon, while still cool in the mornings, and I’m ready to wear nothing but dresses. I have too many dresses, I know, but I like to have a nice variety to choose from, depending on my mood. They’re all black, of course, but different shapes:
I love a slim, fitted dress for layering, and when I’m feeling sassy. A t-shirt dress is perfect for just throwing on with Birkenstocks and heading out. My long tank dresses get a lot of wear during transitional months, and I love a good shirt dress (short or long) for a slightly more pulled together look (preppy, maybe>).
Above and below are some of my favorite spring/summer dresses at Shopbop right now, ALL 25% off through 4/7 with code INTHEFAM. Of course, if you don’t already have that open back JP dress, I recommend it HIGHLY. I am passing on it right now, something I hope I won’t regret, and instead ordered these Beek sandals and Kara tote using credits I earn each month from Shopbop for displaying their widget in my sidebar ->
*check this post for reader reviews – most recommend sizing down one size from your “normal” JP size. I tried both sizes on myself and would stick to my regular size (I have hips/butt) FYI

Oh man! I went for that JP open back dress when you posted it a few weeks ago, biting the bullet at full price. Live and learn! Ditto to your recommendation to order your true size.
oh! i hate that…it’s too bad it didn’t just go on sale, or they’d price adjust it. don’t do that with codes though.
i think this dress is absolutely worth full price anyway, i wouldn’t mind paying it, knowing all the wear i’d get out of it, and how obsessed i’ve been for a year. and since i didn’t order it this time, i will probably have to pay full price when i do decide to!
Oh, that caftan! I just can’t bring myself to spend that much on something I know will be relegated to vacation wear…..
would it though?? i would want to wear that all the time…but it’s not a flattering shape on me at all, so probably wouldn’t. then again, i have that gorgeous emerson fry caftan that i’ll only wear on vacation. point taken LOL
it’s so beautiful, but the sleeves make it a deal breaker for me for “regular” wear; it’s just too hard to carry a shoulder bag with sleeves like that.
Yes – I have a couple of poncho type tops that I rarely wear for the same reason – even though they are appropriate for work, I can’t even carry my bags in from my car!
With the dolman sleeves and that very low v front, I don’t think I’d even be able to wear that to the Saturday farmer’s market or other very casual destination – it looks like beach vacation only 🙁
but what a lovely dress for a beach vacation!!!
or, if you LIVED at the beach. or by the pool all summer…
Yeah, my Pinterest board life, right? If I regularly went to the beach or on beach vacations, I probably would be more interested – it’s a timeless shape, really! And seems forgiving of a little yo-yo dieting too….
Everything.is.so.damned.good! Why does every single place I love to shop do their “friends and family” at the same time? I’ve got so many wish-list things in carts strewn across the Internet! And I’m SO confused. 😉
Grechen- I’d love to know how you layer with the more slim fitting dresses. That is always a tricky one for me. I can’t do a sweater over it- at least not pullovers. I find that I need long layers to elongate my body…
I mostly do cardigans over slim dresses because I do find them much more
Elongating, but I’ll sometimes wear a pullover over a long slim dress – that’s a look I also like. Generally I default to long-ish cardigans over slim dresses though, it’s what I’m most comfortable in
