When my dad and I get together, we go shopping. He was here for most of the week last week, so we did a LOT of shopping π It was so much fun; I discovered that I REALLY really really want an iPad (my sites look great on it by the way ;)), and I got an amazing linen dress, thanks to my dad. We also hung out in New Braunfels & Greune, Texas for some culture, and on the way back to Austin stopped in San Marcos at the outlet “center” where I found a JAMES PERSE OUTLET!!!!!!!!!! Of course, I cannot stress that enough. a JAMES PERSE OUTLET!!!!!!!!! I did not buy anything at the JAMES PERSE OUTLET!!!!!!!!!! but I did think the prices were good and the selection, great. I was just so excited and overwhelmed, I think I was too shocked to buy anything π
So, as if I didn’t have enough shopping during the week, I went back to one spot, the Domain, on Saturday before picking my fiance up from the airport. I actually went back with the intention of getting another CP Shades linen dress from Calypso – in gray this time – and just looking for dresses I could belt in general. I ended up getting this James Perse dress from Barney’s Co-Op on sale for $59, but it’s going back. I tried it on in the store without a belt, and decided to take it home to try on with a belt, but it looked awful. I don’t know what they were thinking with this one…
I did also try on these Wilt asymmetrical dresses, but they were kind of short, and for that price + a little more, I could just get the CP Shades dress…
So, I went over to Calypso and came to the conclusion that I’d like to just buy my entire wardrobe there from now on. I ended up only getting an amazing belt made from jute (I think) that’s unfortunately not on the website. I tried on a couple of linen tops, my favorite of which isn’t on the website right now, but it was tunic length, with crochet detail at the neckline, 3/4 sleeves…just amazing. And I tried on the gray dress again – but couldn’t make up my mind if I wanted the dress of the shirt, so I left to think about it. I’m going to go back and get the dress. It’s perfect, and so cute with leggings – I can see myself wearing it all year around.
I also went back into Madewell and tried on this dress – in black:
It is so so so so so so cute!!!!! I belted it, which makes it even CUTER!!! I totally want it, but it was a little shorter than I like dresses to be on me, so I’d only be able to wear it with leggings. And I didn’t think it was necessarily worth $150 – although it is all in eyelet and included a slip…
OH, and I forgot to mention that at Calypso, the SA (and I’m so sorry, I forget her name now!! she’s the sweetest) was wearing the Swedish Hasbeens sky high t-straps!!! We had discussed our mutual love of clogs the last time I was in the store, and they had just received a return of the Swedish Hasbeens, in her size coincidentally, so she was trying them on. She also let me try them on!! And honestly, as excited as I was about these clogs, they didn’t do much for me. I like them, and they were very comfortable – but I don’t think they were very flattering on me. They were on the SA though, she was wearing them with long linen pants – adorable. Incidentally, she wears a size 7 shoe and the size 38 Swedish Hasbeens fit her fine. I also wear a size 38 in Swedish Hasbeens, but I’m a size 8…so, I don’t know, take that with a grain of salt…but I thought it was interesting. I think I can cross those off my must-have list now though, I just don’t think they’re for me.
I’m really enjoying getting to know Austin by shopping!! I’m meeting some wonderful ladies and having loads of fun talking shop (haha…pun intended).
How was your week last week? Have you bought anything worth sharing lately?
What??? a James Perse outlet? I’m so there!!
i know, right? we should do a road trip…
I can totally imagine you hyperventilating when you saw the JAMES PERSE OUTLET!!!! Of course, I would have done the same, but it’s so hilarious coming from you. I think it’s awesome you are beginning to feel “at home” in Austin thanks to your shopping jaunts. Texas is going to love you, if they don’t already.
i’m so predictable aren’t i π i’m having so much fun and meeting wonderful people!!
A James Perse OUTLET??? Only you would be able to find that one–lol. We addicts (thanks to you!) might have to hire you as our “personal shopper/sales agent” since Austin isn’t exactly local for me–ha ha! Show us the Madewell dress on you when you get a chance.
Hi! Thanks for your blog!
The Calypso dress in gray is now on backorder probably due to your blog!!!! Anyway I am also very interested in the whole outfit on their website: Tawny White Linen dress, Suede Belt and cotton cardigan. Have you seen in the store? What do you think? Do I need to get a slip to put underneath you think? I am craving that dress so much but such an investment at the same time! Need your expertise!
Thanks for your help!
hi melanie!! i have seen the dress & the cardi in the store, but not the belt. the dress is very cute, but i didn’t try it on (i’m kind of afraid of white on me…). it probably fits similar to the one i got, which is at least 1 size big, unless you want it to be really oversized. the cardi is cute, but for me, would just be a little too warm for summer. i think if you wear nude undergarments, and maybe a long cami or tank top under the dress, it should be okay without a slip. i wear slips with everything – but that’s cuz i’m old fashioned π
that entire outfit is wonderful though!! you can’t go wrong with any of the pieces. i actually wish i had seen the belt in store – i may have gotten it!!
btw, they’re having a 20% off code today with code TTIME10 if you buy any t-shirt, otherwise, i think it’s NEWFRIEND for 20% off (you’re supposed to sign up for their e-mail list – if you do, they’ll send you the code)
hope that helps!!
First – I think I would need Depends if I laid eyes on a James Perse OUTLET!!!!! WHAT!!!
I live in Southern California and to say I own a lot of JP would be an understatement. A soft cotton understatement. When you recover from the shock and go back I need details.
Now, about the Swedish Hasbeens – I fell off the wagon and bought a pair last week. Yesterday I wore them ALL DAY LONG and I AM IN LOVE! I got the Peep Toe Super High in black and they have changed my life. So comfortable, so cute and so many compliments.
Did a blog post on them here: http://thisfreebird.blogspot.com/2010/05/cliggity-clogs.html
The pictures don’t nearly do them justice, but it was late in the day when they were taken too. These shoes might be the beginning of an addiction. Uh-oh!

i love the pictures – they look great with leggings. question: did you get your “normal” size, or did you size up? i always get my normal size, but lately, i’ve been hearing of people sizing up….
OMG grechen i’m only almost a year (and another pair of hasbeens) late in responding to you. SO SORRY!! okay i did get my normal size in the peep toe super high and in a cloggy loafer type pair as well. simply adore them and now they’re taunting once again w/so many new styles…a girl can dream π
