Of course, I highly recommend all the James Perse pieces, especially this dress (please note, several readers mentioned that they sized down from their normal JP size in the open-backed dress. I did NOT). The ruched pencil skirt (I did size down to a 1 in that) is a great basic piece, and if you’re looking for something longer, with pockets, this sleeveless maxi dress is great for layering right now. Also, BEST LEGGINGS EVER.
But on to some other things: ICYMI Shopbop now carries No6 clogs. I used some of my credit (I earn credit at Shopbop every month for displaying their widget on my sites) to buy these open-toe wedge clogs. For reference, I usually wear a size 8/38 and always take a size 39 in No6, EXCEPT sandals – I have bought 38 in sandals and been happy with the sizing.
And one of my absolute favorite dresses for summer, this Oak NYC asymmetrical maxi dress, is on sale in the Fatigue color for $78, and the black is $130. I lived in my OAK dress for two years and recently sold it to get the smaller size for this coming summer; I highly recommend it.
If you feel like being splurgy on luxurious laundry detergent, and/or you need to add something to make the threshold for the next highest discount (I’m totally guilty of doing this…), may I suggest The Laundress detergent with Le Labo, either the Santal 33 or the Rose 31 scents? I bought one of these quite some time ago with credits from Garmentory and have just recently run out. I use it VERY sparingly, and only on special things, but I find the scent lingers nicely and is subtle, but still noticeable.
Are you buying anything? Have any questions about James Perse or anything else I’ve mentioned? leave a comment 🙂
Hi Grechen! Thanks for recommendations! Very interested in the JP tube skirt, but could you expand on why you sized down from your usual size? For some background, I have the old tulip back skirt in a 2 and it does stretch out quite a bit during wear in the waist and across the hips and I sometimes feel it’s too big, but I also have the open back dress in a 2 and it fits perfectly everywhere. I also have the v-neck ruched dress in a 2 and I think it’s a smidge too small for my liking in the hips and thigh area. I think we have roughly the same waist and hip measurements, but I’m a few inches taller. Thank you!
the SA at james perse actually recommended to size down in that skirt, and when i tried it on in person, i agreed – i have no idea why it seems to run smaller than other things –
i agree with the v-neck ruched dress – i think it’s a teeny bit smaller at the hips than the open-back dress. my open back dress is a size 2 and i wouldn’t have wanted to size down, because in the size down the top was too small around my chest area so that it created un-sightly areas of fat around my arm openings. TMI, sorry!! but it feels a little big at the hips/waist. not so much that it’s uncomfortable or whatever.
with the skirt, i definitely wanted more fitted. i don’t fold the waist over, and maybe that makes a difference? if i did do that, it would be tight there. i like to wear it really high and unfolded, which is the way i think it’s best, but i know you can fold it over if you want to. honestly, i probably would have been okay with the size 2 also, but i just liked the snug-ness of the one better.
does that help LOL? not sure…
the tulip skirt is just 100% cotton though, right? so that will definitely stretch and get big.
Ha, thanks, Grechen! The size 2 is since gone from the site, so it looks like the 1 may have to happen anyway lol. I would want it wear it like you do though, up high so that I can tuck a top into, so the 1 might be fine. I can’t remember if the tulip back skirt is all cotton, it’s tucked away in my summer clothes drawer. I’ll have to check, but considering how much it stretches out over the course of a day, I wouldn’t be surprised.
Also, thanks for mentioning the Laundress detergent. I got the delicates detergent over Christmas in the scent “lady” and it smells SO GOOD. I only use it on sweaters to make it last longer since it’s pretty pricey, but geez I love it.
I ordered the No. 6 “old school” style clogs in grey. I am keeping my fingers crossed that they fit! I have a hard time with clogs…they all seem to run narrow, and with a high instep it’s an even tougher fit. I buy regular width shoes…not sure what gives with clogs. Here’s to hoping they work out! 🙂
I’ve been looking around for a tote bag and I finally bought the Clare V Simple Tote in a blush/navy combo. Those hardly ever go on sale so I thought, what the heck? I also bought the James Perse palazzo jumpsuit…crossing fingers this looks okay on me. Oh, and a cute lace nighty too 🙂
I bought the BAGGU silver circle bag…I’m so tired of carrying a HUGE bag! I also got a thermal tee by Wilt, one of my favorite tee brands because they run long and I need the length with my long torso.
