You know I’m all about the ugly shoe trend right now, within reason, of course. I have loved my Mephisto & Birkenstock sandals for many years, and will never give them up. But as I always say with trends, if you happen to love one anyway, it’s a great time to stock up on new pieces. Especially with this one. There are so many incarnations of the “ugly sandal” i.e. flat sandals with a “comfort” foot bed, that you’re bound to find a few pairs you can keep in heavy rotation for many years. Do it now though, ’cause I don’t think this one is sticking around for too much longer. Next summer Vogue will have moved on…
Anyway, Charlotte Stone has been on my radar for a while now for her “cuter” interpretation of comfort sandals. I first fell for her simple lace-up thong style (still too fussy for me though), and then the criss cross sandal (doesn’t look good on my foot), but this morning, I literally GASPED when I saw the Alice double strap slides. Of course, I ordered the black pair.*

And some modeling shots at Vamp Shoes — I LONG for more online boutiques to show shoes on FEET/people, like Zappos does. I really like to see a shoe on a foot before I order it, which is why I try to try things on in person before I buy as much as possible…
*I actually struggled HARD with the decision to order these shoes. I fell in love with them, and nearly checked out instantly (then was especially hurried when I saw that there were only 2 left in my size. thanks Shopbop ;)), but held off for a few hours. Then I thought about them more, how the other styles sold out fairly quickly, how unique they are, and how I had been thinking about ordering another pair of “ugly” sandals recently. I do not need new sandals, strictly speaking, but I decided after thinking about it that I needed to at least try them. And like I mentioned above, I’m not afraid of ugly sandals, and will wear them whether they’re “in style” or not, so these could be “timeless” for me…
Damn! I LOVE THOSE.
Carry on:).
haha! they’re pretty good, no?
So glad you ordered these and can review for us! I almost bought a pair last weekend because they have the cutest snow leopard print on the Charlotte Stone website. But I held off because I couldn’t tell what they would look like on a real foot. I’m thinking of the Lukes, but the Alices are what sent me to their site in the first place.
i can’t wait to get them…i hope they’ll look good, but i wonder. i really love the criss cross sandals, but i tried on a pair of sam edelman’s once and they looked HORRIBLE on my foot. they are cute though, i think…
I really want the Barton slides! No coupon codes?
I know, it is an I think its cute shoe. I like the leathers/calf-hair/colors, but I’m not sure how the cut of the shoe will look on the foot. I also worry that the Luke is just too much foot coverage, which will look bad, but the Alice and Barton’s vamp might be too far forward on the foot and therefore hard to walk in… I don’t know. Haven’t bought them yet.
