I’ve had these Rag & Bone shoes since April 8th, and I’ve worn them to pieces…so much, that I can’t wear them anymore. When I ordered them from Otte NY, they recommended sizing up one size, and I did. They fit perfectly when I put them on and were so comfortable to wear, walk & stand in for a couple of weeks. (everywhere else that sells these online also recommends sizing up one size). Recently, however, I’ve found that the leather has stretched SO much, that I can’t walk in them anymore. I’ve fallen a few times while wearing them because I’m trying to at the same time keep them on my feet! I’m SO disappointed.
Here they are when I first got them:
and here they are now:
They’re now a size too big!! If I’d ordered my regular size, I think they would be fine now – they would have stretched enough to be comfortable, but not too big. At this point, I think these are going to the consignment shop…I’m not aware of anyway to shrink leather – only to stretch it.
I’m going to make sure OTTE, Rag & Bone and Shopbop all know about the sizing issue, I’d really hate for someone who actually paid $375 for these to only get one month’s of wear out of them.
Has this ever happened to you before? A shoe has stretched out so much you can’t wear it anymore?
Love those sandals on you and sad that this happened. Btw I found some ideas in case you’re wanting to go all DIY on these 🙂

That is so disappointing, especially since you paid good money for them and they are cute!
I totally had that happen to me with a pair of Chloe pumps. I tried to work around it with thicker inserts, but it’s still not quite right. I hate the idea of giving them up since they were my first pair of Chloe’s that I splurged on and I wanted them so bad.

i thought about trying inserts also, but those never work out very well for me…
i’m going to see if i can consign these – i feel like they’d work well for someone who’s a size 9 or maybe even 9.5
what would i do without you??
maybe i’ll take them to a shoe place – depending on how much it costs, i might try it. but i can’t help but think they’ll just stretch again….
I got the Berkane sandals from Shopbop a little over a month ago. I ordered both sizes and ended up keeping the larger size. Now I wish I kept the smaller size. I love them and only wore them maybe 5 or 6 times. They truly have stretched a lot. I actually fell down at Target this weekend. So embarrassing!! I am going to try to take them cobbler to see if there is any way to shrink the leather. I love your blog btw.
oh man!! i wish i had been able to warn everyone earlier…but it just kind of dawned on me the last time i tried to wear them that the reason they were so hard to walk in was because the leather had stretched too much. and i’m sorry you fell. i know the feeling – i was super-embarrassed!!!!
let us know if your cobbler’s able to do anything for the leather.
I share your disappointment. Whew am I relieved now that I did not run out and buy these sandals! I have the Rag and Bone motorcycle boots and I cannot tell you how much I have LOVED them. Sized up per guide and sadly my forever boots are like clown shoes on me now. They are HUGE! Took them to the best shoe place I know to try and shrink the leather but alas not possible. : ( may they rest in peace.
Call Rag & Bone! See if there is anything they can do about it. You would be surprised how responsive companies can be regarding issues like these. I wore a Rebecca Taylor sweater for the first time a while after I got it, and the sleeve ripped. I contacted Customer Service and since the sweater was no longer in stock, they gave me a refund. It doesn’t hurt to ask!
Oh no, that sucks!
I really want to buy these wedges, I’m usually a 38, but my foot is a little wide..
ShopBop have a 37 on sale, but then another website has my usual size 38 for the full price, and I’m not sure what to do?
What do you think?
i’m sorry i’m so late to reply!!! i would go with your normal size, the 37 would be pretty tight i think, but then again, if you could stick to just wearing them inside for a day or so to see if they stretch enough to wear, the 37 might work…..you could return them to shopbop if they don’t.
Submerge the shoe in water until it is totally wet. Dry in the sun until completely dry. I’ve tried this before and it does work, but only for awhile. The shoe will again stretch out. However, it will buy you a few more wears. I wanted these shoes so badly but refused to pay the hefty price for the. If you want to sell them, I’d like to buy. Maybe they’ll fit me?!
Hi Amy,
What size do you wear? Are you interested in selling them?
Susan
Hello girls! I don’t think this is a size issue?? Even your own size will stretch…don’t you think?
there is stretching and then there is STRETCHING…my boots are HUGE now. I think it’s the “size up” suggestion on the size chart that led us all astray.
