Jenny Yuen has been on our radar for a little while, and finally her line has been picked up by several online boutiques including Delcina – the only place where you can pre-order the Gatsby Bag in Sapphire. And now that your humble fashion editor/blogger has gotten her hands on one, they’ll be flying out the “door!”
I cannot tell you how much I love this bag. Yes, I know, I say that about all my bags…and it’s always true. I love them ALL. In different ways perhaps, but it’s still love. I’ve had this bag for two days, and am incredibly pleased with it. It’s very easy to wear over my shoulder, as well as in my elbow, or by hand. Outside pockets are a must-have for me, and the Gatsby has 5 – two small ones on the side I haven’t quite found uses for yet, two pockets and a long zippered pouch on the front. Inside, there are two “mobile device” pockets and a zippered pocket on the other side. So…lots of storage space.
It’s technically called a weekender (it’s funny that bags that are referred to as weekenders are my most favorite bags, my every day bags…), but it suits my day-to-day life perfectly. I do carry a pretty big Paul & Joe makeup bag, a smaller hobo wallet, and various other things (now, my new Virginia Johnson scarf) sometimes including a sweater, magazines, a bottle of water, an apple…you never know. It would definitely hold a small laptop with no problem – the bag is pretty structured, so it would hold a laptop without sagging too much, and the leather is thick and sturdy, I wouldn’t worry about it holding up to just about anything.
I chose the Sapphire because I love to wear colorful bags. I DO NOT love to wear color on my person; my entire wardrobe is mostly grey, black, white and brown. I see my bag as my most important accessory (sometimes it’s the most important part of my outfit); I want it to “go” rather than match, but I don’t want it to clash. I use my bag as a pop of color, not my clothes – and for me that works. I’ve said this before, but I understand the desire to just go for a black or brown bag all the time – it’s easy, and they’ll both go with just about anything. But it’s BORING!!! You see how I created outfits with neutral colors so I could showcase my bag…that’s all there is to it! So if you’re tempted to go for the black or brown Jenny Yuen’s – take a chance on the Sapphire. It’s beautiful.
Here is a close-up picture of the bag. I post this hesitantly because it’s not really an accurate look at the color. It does allow you to see the bag and detailing up close, but the more accurate colors are in the outfit pictures above. I didn’t use the flash in those so I could portray the bag in a more “natural” light and you would get a better idea of the color. It is really a dark blue-ish purple – not a shiny blue as seen here. The leather is matte, it has NO shine to it at all.
All in all, the Jenny Yuen Gatsby bag in Sapphire is an amazing bag. It’s just as functional as it is beautiful, and even though I’ve only had it for two days, I believe that it will stand the test of time. The leather is extremely high quality, the craftsmanship exquisite, and the details divine in their simplicity. Stay tuned for more updates on Jenny Yuen, we’ll be following her intensely…and check out some of the collection at Delcina
