I received these new Everlane tees a week or so ago and have honestly been sort of ‘meh’ about them. I ordered them because I was interested to see/feel the new “luxe” fabric (it’s lyocell) not because I NEED some new tees (like I need a hole in the head). I haven’t worn them yet, and will probably not keep the pink one, but I can see myself wearing the white one this fall, especially with a cashmere cardigan or jacket; I think it’s a very good layering piece and I appreciate the cropped length.
I like the color of the pink tee, very much, but the small is too small on me, the sleeves in particular are too short. And I wore a smoke/gray bra underneath so you could see how sheer the tee is, interestingly the pink tee seems more sheer than the white one. I love that the tees are actually cropped on me, and I find the fit of the medium to be perfect. For me, it’s just not OMG the most amazing tee ever, you know? However, if you’re looking for a slightly cropped tee with elbow-length sleeves and an easy fit, I’d encourage you to try this one; it might be just the right tee for you.
I like the feel of the fabric, but I’m not unfamiliar with lyocell (tencel is the “brand” name), and find it feels similar to rayon with perhaps a little more weight. I haven’t worn the tees yet, haven’t washed them either, so I have no idea if they’ll shrink or change shape at all. It seems as if Everlane is trying to phase out their rayon ryan line with this new one, because the ryan tees/tanks got a lot of love/hate over the years. I have always loved my ryan tanks, the tees not so much. The rayon definitely shrinks and shows it’s age over time, but I still wear the tanks and find them very versatile.

Did anyone else order/receive these new tees? What did you think? And, have you seen the new smoking loafer? I will admit, I love the look of the white pair, although I’ve not had the best luck with Everlane shoes over the years…
And also, speaking of Everlane, I put some long sleeve silk blouses (in Medium) up on SLOWRE recently >
Ok, so Kim at GOACA raved about this t-shirt, but you are meh? I don’t know what to think!!! 😉

I guess I’ll have to order for myself and see.
yes, i saw that post over the weekend, and was sort of like “what tee did she get??”
i just think it’s a rather boring tee. which is weird, because it’s not if you’re used to basic tees. but maybe i had higher hopes for it? i think i wanted a BETTER shape, like MORE drape, or a lower hem in the back – something interesting, you know?
then again, i may be incredibly jaded when it comes to white tees LOL
yes, you should definitely try it yourself. i think that if you have a need for a tee with slightly longer sleeves, and is a cropped length, then this one might be really great for you, and not “meh” 😉
I just ordered the cropped tee in black! I am a lover of the Everlane rayon tanks and the short sleeve tees. The tees did shrink and change shape after getting wet, but I actually like how they fit me better than when I first got them. I do wash mine in the machine on cold but I hang dry after giving a good stretch and found that all my rayon shirts do just fine. I hope I like the cropped tee, I have been wanting some tees with a little more “polish” for wearing to work.
Speaking of, I ordered an Amour Vert Ryan linen tee in small, and was disappointed. First, it was too tight, and second, too sheer for me for the office. I looked like I was wearing a mesh top from the 90s. I’m just going to return it…I think a medium would fit better but I really just can’t have anything sheer for work. The linen did feel nice, though, but I’m trying not to have separate work and casual wardrobes, so I really wanted it to do double duty.
I like the look of the smoking loafer too, and considered buying it, but I think it’s too dressy for me. I actually just bought the Veronica loafer from UNNOWN and I love it! It’s taking some breaking in because they are leather, but they are super comfy and really cool looking.
i hope you love the everlane tee – it is definitely more polished for work!
linen tees are so sheer – that’s just the nature of linen jersey i think – AND they stretch/lose their shape SO MUCH, so probably not appropriate for work anyway, really… they’re a pretty casual option, once they’ve been worn and washed a few times anyway. i love that, and really like the slouchy look, but I wish the hems on my tee were finished better, more like on the ryan tee, actually…
oh, that unnown shoe is so cool!! nice choice 🙂
Grechen, hi
FYI- I made an appointment at the Everlane showroom in Soho and I will def. mention that you have inspired me to go there.
GOt rid of 3 huge garbage bags of clothes, thank you Marie Kondo- onto the kitchen now . Friends have been coming over and shopping, the rest I will bring to work to share.
I wanted to ask you if you could, for fall, for us nubies, do a made in USA denim review and maybe suggestions for leather jackets. I like the shorties you are wearing with the black clog sandals.
Enjoy the day ,
Gena
I purchased the dress version of this and immediately returned it. It was thin and cheap feeling. I am a big fan of their A-Line Cotton Dress which was just $5 more, lined, and cut in a much better shape. I don’t think the $45 price tag made sense for the drape dress and it was more like a bathing suit cover up.
oh nice!! i wish I could see the showroom, have fun 🙂 and please report back on what you see!!
and yes, it’s time for an updated made in the US denim post, in the meantime, here’s my latest one in case you haven’t seen it yet: http://grechenscloset.com/creating-your-conscious-closet-american-made-denim/
and will definitley post on leather jackets – i just ordered this one from reformation actually : https://www.thereformation.com/products/trident-jacket-precipice – hopefully it will fit in the size small!!
Cute jacket!!!
I can see what you mean about the sizing and sheerness issues when I compare between the two pics. White medium is definitely the best, and oddly, less sheer as you said. I’m still on the fence about Everlane. I have to be honest and say I’m not sure what all the hullabaloo is about!
have you tried anything yet?
i’ve said before, i’m not always super impressed by everything, but I still believe in what they’re doing, and i can’t help but get excited about new arrivals. but more often than not lately, i’ve been sort of ‘meh’ about nearly everything. except the boyfriend linen shirt, it’s really good. it’s just too hot to wear lately, so i haven’t worn it much…
i love the jacket 🙂 we’ll see if it works. all they had left was a small, and it’s final sale. so….
Hmm, the boyfriend linen shirt…have you featured that lately?!? I get so behind on my reading! (Working full-time in a beach town is for the birds! I was destined to be a beach bum. 😉 )
I have tried a few things: The Weekender duffle in reverse denim, the Cotton Poplin square shirt in navy (I like it a lot, but I haven’t washed it yet), and the Ponte long sheath dress. I wish I had a “roller” for the duffle because it’s just too heavy to travel with by air. And I have really second guessed the ponte dress. It would be great layered over a turtle and worn with boots, but it’s just not me. What I feel is that the sizing is off for me (and others, or so it seems), plus, the quality sounds really hit or miss, and finally, laundering seems to be a problem. Great customer service is one thing, but how long does a company get to be a “start-up”?
I considered buying one of these tees, but I was worried I wouldn’t like the fabric. I just bought the Everlane V-neck tee (my favorite tee in the world right now) in the same pink and it’s not that sheer.
Hi Grechen-
I will take pictures at the Everlane showroom -is it possible to post pictures on this site?
Thank you for sending older denim link- can’t wait to see an updated denim and leather review – Moto jackets are cool but Im looking for something not so hard looking and with a longer length.
PS just got the book The Cool Factor from the library- taking it with me on vacation. I think I need my own copy!
Thank you again
Best, Gena
Hi Grechen! I was just curious if you tried washing this yet and how it held up. I was really on the fence about this top but the hand-washing instructions were kind of a deal breaker for me.
yeah, i just washed it with my whites, in cold water and hung to dry…nbd. it didn’t seem like it lost shape or shrunk or anything.
but i just didn’t really like the shirt on me anyway, so it’s in slowre right now 😉
thanks Grechen and I’m sending you another box for slowre today! It should get there on the 21st, thanks again 😀
