Everlane E1 tunic sweater (size small)
James Perse leggings
Rag & Bone Aston booties | from last year, sold out
So. Here’s Everlane’s Capsule v-neck tunic sweater in burgundy, size small. It’s okay, but I don’t like it on me. I don’t like sweater “tunics” anyway, or sweater dresses, because they change shape too much at the bottom with wear, and end up looking odd and stretched out by the end of the day. Also, they’re usually too long on me, as this one is.
The wool is very similar to their chunky wool, although this year’s chunky wool seems to be more tightly woven, and warmer than this sweater. I love the v-neck, and think it sits nicely, and even the dropped shoulders aren’t too bad. And the color is beautiful. But still, it’s too long and narrow at the bottom for my taste. As I mentioned yesterday, I much prefer the shape of the Emerson Fry oversized sweater to this one.
I’m sending this one back to Everlane – and I’m hoping to maybe get one of the new donegal cashmere pieces, or one of the new marled chunky wool collection, a hat perhaps? Wasn’t a huge fan of the luxe double knit pieces. Did anyone pick anything up on Black Friday to support their black friday fund?
Tomorrow, pictures/review of the chunky knit wool cardigan. I promise !!
The v-neck and the color look lovely on you! But I agree with you on the Emerson Fry sweater: between these two, it is the better piece.
I bought the E1 Collection’s Tassel Scarf and it is ginormous. But it’s my first Chicago winter and I suspect there is no such thing here as a too big scarf 😉 The reason why I kept a 140 dollar scarf is that it’s a stunning piece: the tassels look very neat and elegant, as does the pattern, which also adds a nice texture.
I also think about ordering the The E1 Structured Crop. It looks lovely on the model, I’m just afraid that the fabric has too much of a “scuba” drape. But I guess there’s only one way to find out 😉
Yes, Grechen, very nice color, but not the best fit. My least favorite detail is the neck– its’ neither a v-neck or a u-neck and looks strange. A bigger scarf wrapped around would salvage it. Thanks for the review!
I agree, reluctantly. I love the color, but the shape swamps you.
Hmm -actually I think that neckline is one of my favorite features of the sweater! It looks not-revealing but different from the usual.
And I also love the color, but the chunky knit isn’t my thing. I don’t think it looks that long on you (but my perspective might be skewed as I work on a university campus and am surrounded by students wearing sweaters as dresses, at least that’s what it looks like to me 😉
i like the neckline too – it’s very similar (the whole sweater is) to an ACNE studios sweater i’ve had my eye on for a while, but is WAY out of price range…
and haha on your “perspective” – it’s just a little long, like when i put it on, i folded it under a little and WISHED it was that short. then let it go and didn’t like it as much…
the color is SO nice though. wish they’d do a cashmere cardigan in that color. or turtleneck.
yes, the color is nice, isn’t it? i did get the JP t-shirt in a similar color though, so there’s that 😉
that tassel scarf is my favorite thing in the collection i think – but i have no need of it, and i know it would be too warm and impractical for me. for chicago, i think it will be PERFECT.
i thought about the structured crop as well, but agree with your thinking that it won’t be very drapey – it does have a nice structured, architectural look to it though. could be very interesting on – i’d prefer it with slimmer pants than the model is wearing though
if i kept it, i’d wear a scarf with it, i was COLD yesterday taking the pictures!!! but i wanted to show the neckline LOL
oh, is it “deborah” sweater? i like it too, the knit, shape is very nice. the neckline is organic with the rest of the sweater. it’s on sale here and there…
YES. love the deborah sweater. not enough really to buy it, there are other styles i like better, and i am wary of a v-neck for winter anyway, because i’d need a scarf. and what’s the point of a v-neck sweater if you have to cover it with a scarf??
Agreed – the color is gorg but I’m not loving this on you. I don’t think it looks great on the everlane model either. There’s some interesting stuff going on with the knit pattern too, but the shape is just blah.
I didn’t have any money to buy on black Friday but I did decide to keep the cashmere v neck that i ordered a few weeks ago. I wasn’t thrilled with it initially because I thought it was too big and sloppy looking. But I tried it on a few times and it grew on me. I needed something cozy for a post-thanksgiving hang at my sister’s so I threw it on with jeans and it was perfect for that. I’m impressed with the feel and weight of the fiber – like what J Crew was turning out years ago when they were justifiably known for nice-quality,affordable cashmere. That played a big part in my decision to hang on to it. It’s very comfy to wear. 🙂
