Everlane U-neck tee | small (made in the US)
Ulla Johnson overalls | 6 (sold out – similar)
Everlane day mules (gift from Everlane to review) | size 8 – true to size
(haha…my flamingo pose…)
First, the important stuff: these are really good – true to size, not narrow in the toes, and very comfortable. I expect the flats to be the same, and since they have elastic at the back, no heel blisters, or breaking in, yay!
I asked for the mules instead of the flats because 1. I love mules, and 2. I wanted to see if I could recommend them as a good substitute for the Emerson Fry slides I have and love, but aren’t available anymore.
On mules though. They can be tricky to walk and feel comfortable in if you’re new to the style; you have to grip with your toes to keep them from sliding off your foot, and you can’t walk super-fast or you’ll just slip out of them. But you can get used to the sensation of wearing mules, and once you do, you’ll never know how you got along without a pair.
The one thing you might not expect is how the top of the shoe will rub/dig in to the top of your foot because you’re really using that part of the foot more with mules. It’s not uncomfortable for long, after you get used to it, and they soften up a bit, but with my Emerson Fry slides I used a little moleskin around the inside of the shoe to prevent blisters there, and for these I haven’t.
They also flip flop around and make that slap slap sound when you walk. Which is sort of annoying and why I cannot STAND flip flops, but you get used to that too…
Ultimately, I prefer my Emerson Fry slides to these because they go straight across the foot instead of curve out like these do. And they’re super-comfy now, all broken in. But if you’ve been wanting those and haven’t found a good alternative, I would recommend the day mule by Everlane as a very good substitute.
Oh, and they’re great for traveling, as a hotel shoe, or slipper that you can also wear to breakfast. I brought them with me to Atlanta for our overnight trip and was glad I had them to slip on instead of wearing my tennis shoes at home. They pack well, since they’re super-slim, you could even throw them in your purse or work tote.
Another great shoe from Everlane – I am so glad they’re using softer leather and softer styles lately; it’s a huge improvement on their other shoes in my opinion.
What do you think? do you do mules? Or will you go with the flats? or the heels? did anyone manage to order a pair of heels before they sold out?
Not into slides, I need real shoes with arch support that I don’t feel like I’m falling out of…
I just bought the flat this morning. I work in a building with old wood floors so it would drive me crazy to wear shoes that clack when I walk. But the mules are beautiful.
what color did you get??
So tempted by them in the nude color… I’m glad that Everlane seems to be adjusting the fit of their shoes as of late! My feet are regular width but fall ever so slightly towards wide, so I’ve never pulled the trigger on their shoes, as much as I love their modern loafers in olive.
Cute…they really flopped around in the little video on the Everlane website.
Is there any arch support? I like the red!
I returned the Everlane slides I bought last summer because that digging into the top of the foot thing was agony. I couldn’t even tolerate walking around my house in them. Indeed, I’ve returned every pair of shoes I’ve ever bought from Everlane because of fit issues, so I’ve given up on their shoes.
Grechen – not all sizes are available but the EF slides are still for sale in smaller sizes:

I got the red flats today in my regular size. They’re so beautiful but run tight across the top of my foot. I’m wearing them around the house for a couple of days to see if they stretch/soften at all. Otherwise, back they go:(
