I received an email question about Everlane tees a while ago which specifically asked what I thought about the box tee, said to be better for us shorter ladies. I had never been overly tempted by the box tee (I tend to shy away from crew necks), honestly, so hadn’t tried it, but I decided to order it and give it a go.
I like the box tee very much. To recap, I didn’t like Everlane’s v-neck very much, but I do like the u-neck tees (the u-neck tee on me, with these same jeans), although not as much as my James Perse casual tee (my holy grail white tee). I am wearing a medium, and it might be a little large around my waist, but not where it sits at my hips.
It looks better half-tucked (although I’ve never quite mastered that look) than completely out, so my waist is more defined. I can see how this would be a great tee for shorties though, because it’s quite a bit shorter in length than either their v-neck or u-neck tees.
BUT, it’s pretty much exactly the same length as the James Perse casual tee on me, and still, I would recommend JP over this one if you can afford it, and you prefer a scoop neck. The JP tee drapes a bit better, doesn’t bunch up around my waist like this one does and I like the sleeves (shorter) and the neckline (lower) better.
(James Perse casual tee – this is a size 3)
If you like crew-neck tees though, and spending $15 on a white t-shirt is more your style, then I definitely recommend Everlane’s.
So, now, if you’re still reading, and you’d like to try this tee, I’m giving it away. I never wore it out, just to try on and take these photos, but it’s been washed and not-dried, so it’s nice and fresh for whoever wants it. I’ll give it to the first person WHO HASN’T TRIED EVERLANE YET who lives in the US (please!) and leaves a comment asking for it . I’ll contact you via your email address to get your info and send it out ASAP. **it’s gone! Jane got it!!**

Oh, and you bet I ordered the two new dress styles Everlane launched today (using credit I have earned), both in size medium. The tank dress won’t ship for a few days, but it seems like the long sleeve dress is ready to send out now. If the long sleeve dress works on me, I’ll be ecstatic, but I’m not exactly hopeful; I’m worried it will be too long and slim in my hips. But I’m going to try it anyway…
Who ordered a dress?
Love your blog and reviews! Wish I had read this morning before purchasing my first order ever this morning so I could have tried this first, dang!
One thing I have noticed, I mean you’re a long time and successful blogger obviously but how come so many of your pictures are out of focus?? Would love to see our outfits more in focus, messes with my eyes sometimes!
All with love from a more recent reader. 🙂
thanks ashley – they are sort of out of focus a lot of the time. i take them myself, on a tripod, and it’s often tough to get good lighting, etc. they’re a LOT better than they used to be, believe me, but still, i know they could be better. i’m working on trying to make them better, even maybe hiring a real professional on certain occasions, for reviews, etc. bear with me please! 🙂
what did you order?
Wouldn’t mind this tee, & nope, I haven’t tried Everlane yet either. Why is that Captain Ron? (Sorry, silly joke the husband & I have – aline from the movie Captain ron).
Never tried Everlane and would love that white T!
Big fan,
Zannabanana
Of course I ordered two of the dresses…and will probably end up returning them. 😉 Both in black. I wish they had the button front one in grey. Hoping that the tank dress will work with a blazer, it would be a perfect summer work outfit.
ah…looks like Jane got it first. sorry!
did you get your EF caftan?? that thing is SO GOOD! wish i lived at the beach – i’d wear it constantly. as it is, i really can’t see wearing it “out” as a dress though, it’s SO BIG. although better after i finally figured out what to do with the tie inside!
i sort of wish i’d taken a chance on the white though, it would have been pretty…
No EF caftan yet 🙁
I am concerned about it being a little too big—I love the fabric design though, so may alter it to be more of a dress–we’ll see! We haven’t had much “beach” weather lately; it was warmer in February than May has been, and I’ve worn my boots more than I did all winter!
I am glad that Everlane is offering some longer dresses. I have gotten to the point that I don’t really like wearing shorter dresses without tights or leggings or tall boots.
I much prefer that James Perse tee on you!! Neck is better, and I’ve never been a fan of a box shape around my middle, so….
I liked the long sleeve Everlane dress- will be interested to see how you like it. But I just bought a long sleeve (well, elbow length) maxi dress so I’m not in the market right now…..
right – i agree on the JP tee. i think the everlane tee would be better on someone with more chest, and maybe with a straighter body shape? i do NOT like things bunching up around my middle…
i’m super-excited about the Everlane dress. but like i said, i don’t really have high hopes for it. it will be nice if it turns out to be great, but…
it is REALLY big. and the linen is a bit heavier than i thought it would be, honestly, but it is so beautifully made and the fabric/pattern is INSANE. and really “sturdy” – i wonder how it could be altered though? lucky you if you have a tailor you can really trust and talk to to get it right…but i’d be afraid LOL
ditto on longer dresses. although once it gets REALLY hot here, i won’t even care, but now, i don’t like baring my legs very much. especially with all the mosquito bites 🙁
I’ll be eagerly awaiting your review of the long-sleeve dress! I love the look, but my top needs an XS and my hips usually don’t agree with that (or rather, my thighs…) It looks like it would be another failure, but *fingers crossed* that i may just be a magic dress. 🙂 I have yet to purchase from Everlane – they’re definitely on my radar, just not sure that I need anything anytime soon. That dress though…
i will post as soon as i get it! although with their new delivery system, who knows when that will be 🙁 hopefully tuesday or wednesday next week…
i’m the same as you i guess in terms of top/bottom ration, so we’ll see about the dress. here’s hoping it will work!!
I’m pretty sure the tank dress will be my next Everlane purchase, even though I’m not at all confident that the drop waist will look good on me. I really need/want more maxi dresses for this summer since shorter dresses and rolling around on the ground with two kiddos don’t really mesh together.
Hmm, given your comments, I think the box tee might work on me. I really like finding tees that have sleeves that are a bit longer. That’s one reason why I love the Emerson luxe tee so the neckline on this one would be a good alternative option to add to the wardrobe although I really don’t need anymore tees.
Man, I have been on the hunt for a long-sleeve maxi dress and totally ignored the email Everlane sent this morning. I would be so tempted to buy but I’m not thrilled with the color options. I am curious about the fit and feel of it though.
Can’t wait to see you in those Everlane dresses, they look amazing!
I like this tee on you, not bad, but see why you prefer the JP. I love everlane u-necks! On another note, what size are you in those Solow linen pants you posted yesterday? I want to try them but the nordstrom site says size up so it seems there is something funky going on with the sizing! Thanks!!!
i do think the tee would be great on you! try it !! 🙂
and the dress, i’m surprised they didn’t release it in more colors, the sand color would look horrible on my skintone, but it might work with yours? i know you prefer more color though lol
solow pretty consistently runs “small” i guess, although i always order mediums and they fit me well. i do have a couple of older pairs of pants and leggings that are size large and they still fit – in the linen pant, i SPECIFICALLY would probably go with large, because of my hips/butt/legs, but otherwise, i might suggest sticking with your true size, because of how much linen tends to stretch.
their sizing on their is odd though, maybe that’s JUST for the linen pants?
This is one of the great benefits of being 54: Your eyes go, and so you can’t see the rogue hair on your chin, the too bright blush, or what I call the “soft focus photos.” (And I’m talking about me, not Grechen!)
So Grechen’s photos are out of focus?!? 😉
haha! i thought it was my eyes too in the beginning. until i got my new glasses LOL, but yes, some parts of the photos are a bit out of focus sometimes. i try to fix them as much as i can, but when you start with not-so-great lighting, it’s tough 😉
at least they’re better than they were 10 years ago. or even 5!! (i think, anyway) – but you guys don’t come here for the photos…
I love the dresses, especially the long-sleeve Ryan dress. But I’m just not willing to chance it…not yet. I haven’t ordered any dresses yet for summer (No weddings as of yet, and no “galas”…I’m not that kind of Hamptons girl.)
We love you as is!
I was so excited to see the dresses today since I’ve been looking for a black maxi, but I don’t think it’d look good on me at all. I really don’t like things with a drop waist like that on me. However, the model is a full 4 inches taller than me, so I wonder if it’d be worth seeing if my tailor could shorten it from the torso? Might not be worth the effort. Very curious to hear your thoughts when it comes in!
i ordered the gray tank dress and the black long sleeve maxi, but the gray one won’t ship out for a while. as soon as I get it i’ll post a review – but it’s funny that you say that you would shorten it from the torso; i ALWAYS wish i could shorten dresses from the torso!! but most dresses i buy are straight (no waist) so that would be nearly impossible to do and look right haha! but that is always where i have issues – the torso is much too long on me so dresses tend to hit funny places…
i don’t like drop waists either, and to me, this one didn’t seem particularly drop -waist, i guess i just though it was how they styled it? i’m assuming you could pull it up and have it sit at your natural waist if you wanted to, and thus make it shorter. i’m expecting it to be rather long on me, actually.
I agree with Kelly, but I think the Everlane boxy tee is perfectly acceptable and flattering as a lower priced alternative. Who woulda’ thought there could be such a difference in white tees?
What? I thought you were totally living the Emily Thorne / Victoria Greyson Revenge Hamptons lifestyle 😉
Haha, Jen! I’m not even the “two brothers that own the bar by the docks” type!
I ordered the drop shoulder tee in white! It took me so long to decide on one!!!
Hope I didn’t come across offensive by the way!!! I didn’t know if you had a purpose behind or if it was my eyes even!! I’m suppose to wear my glasses but errr don’t. I’m on and off with blogging so I like to ask those weird questions and get tips in my own weird way! Cameras on tripods are so fickle, I feel that.
Thanks for being so kind in your response, I realized so late how rude I must/could have sounded…meh, drink the coffee pot then comment should be my new mantra.
oh my goodness..no, not offensive at all. (but yeah, it’s always a good idea to drink coffee before doing anything significant!! ) i’d been really frustrated about it lately, honestly. and my photo quality has always been a source of difficulty for me. when i started blogging, everyone took pictures in front of mirrors or whatever. i never did that, but i did take my photos inside, with terrible lighting using a point & shoot (no iPhone or DSLRs back then!). I just shot what i was wearing, period.
Then, more and more people started blogging and doing what i call “photo shoots” and i started feeling sort of bad about my photos. but i still just wanted to shoot outfit photos; what i was wearing that day, not elaborate styled affairs. and i still do. but i’d like to mix in some other things here and there as well, so i’ve been thinking about hiring a photographer to shoot some outfits for me. we’ll see. i’m always trying to be better – to do better – so it’s a logical next step. i just don’t want to lose myself, or my original goal/mission (to show real outfits) in the process.
so thanks for your comment, actually. i appreciate a good kick in the butt every once in a while!!
let us know how the drop shoulder tee is, looks like a nice option of you like drop shoulder shirts. which i don’t on me, mostly, but i do find them interesting on others.
absolutely – it’s a great alternative – all of the everlane tees are in my opinion…
I TOLD YOU there was a difference in white tees!!!! I TOLD EVERYONE!!! that’s why i had 26 DIFFERENT ones!!!! LOL 🙂
I just wanted to say that I love how you do your photos – when things get overly styled it’s not much different from looking through a magazine at lives you could never have. I love that you show real=world, real-life, attainable style. I’ve stopped following many a blog who has gone too photo-shooty (not because the photos changed, but the content went that direction as well, more magazine and less real life, if that makes sense.) Striving for a good quality image is one thing, but no need to go over the top! Anyway, just my two cents. 🙂
thanks katy – i could never go over the top LOL , i just don’t know how!
i totally get what you mean, which is a big reason why i’ve never really been overly concerned about using a “real” photographer. i do think it would be fun to try for certain situations though. we’ll see!!
thank you 🙂
I agree with Katy. I’ve glossed over and eventually stopped following a lot of blogs just because the photography got too good. I tend to gravitate towards folks, blogs and You Tubers who to me, feel like a peer, not a human magazine issue.
I have been dying to place an everlane order since they first launched. I’m hesitant because I’m not a small person (size 14), and I can’t seem to find a review by anyone my size! It is so hard to find tees that drape nicely and do not require a cami underneath. Great reviews, btw!
ann, i really think their tees run larger than their size chart – i think the size large would fit you well. even though i tend to wear mediums, i could wear small, especially in the u-neck tee. maybe start with that one? the u neck tee in the heather gray is my favorite, nice drape, nice feel, and nice amount of room in it…
