Everlane Ribbed wool turtleneck sweater
Everlane waffle knit tunic
First, apologies for not getting outfit pictures of my two newest Everlane sweaters, but I’ll give you my preliminary reviews of each:
Ribbed wool turtleneck sweater : I love this, I got it in a medium and it might be a bit large on me, but I didn’t want it to be super-snug either, and it’s not. It fits well where it counts (around the hips, shoulders), and is a little bunchy around the waist, but almost EVERYTHING is on me. It’s a nice light weight wool, you’ll have to wear a cami underneath since it’s rather sheer, but that makes it an excellent layering piece. I’ve not worn it yet, but probably will this weekend.
Waffle knit tunic : I LOVE THIS WAFFLE KNIT. Better than the chunky knit, actually. It’s softer, more pliable, and more interesting. That said, this sweater is just meh on me. I got the small, and the length is okay on me, if a little long, and the fit good, overall, but I wish the sleeves were slimmer. The top of the sweater is just large on me, but what else is new…I’m debating a couple of things: exchanging it for an XS, or exchanging it for the cropped turtleneck sweater. I think I’ll exchange it for the shorter sweater – I’d love to have a nice, slimmer tunic sweater (all my tunic sweaters are oversized), but this one isn’t it, and I don’t think it would be it even in the XS; the sleeves are just cut too big.
Now, I’d like to ask you – what are you reading? watching? listening to?
I just finished watching Broadchurch and Making a Murderer on Netflix, now I’m working on Jessica Jones. I might not have watched Broadchurch if not for the recommendation of a friend, but I enjoyed it SO MUCH, and miss it, honestly. Making a Murderer was frustrating and shocking, but absolutely worth watching.
I’m reading a zillion things at the moment, including all things Joan Didion, and The Liar’s Club by Mary Karr (I’m on a memoir kick).
And I’m listening to The Chopin Project, among all other things
What are you reading? watching? listening to? What do you recommend?? What are your plans for the long weekend?
Leo and I are spending the weekend in Fort Worth on the first of our “36 Hours in the USA & Canada” trips. I bought this book for us as a family Hanukkah present and we decided to stick close to home for our first trip (REALLY close to home LOL). Even though we live so close, we haven’t spent any time in Fort Worth, so I’m excited. We’re following it pretty strictly, going to the recommended restaurants, museums, etc., to see if we like the format. I’m excited about it, and will report back on Monday!
Happy Friday!!
Hi Grechen, first time commenter on your blog, I enjoy it very much. I highly recommend watching another British detective show called ‘River’. Stellen Skarsgard stars, as well as a wonderful actress called Nicola Walker (she is in lots of other very good British tv shows). It’s only 6 episodes, you can probably find it on Netflix and it is really, really good! If you like that sort of thing, read the recaps on The Guardian website afterwards, they are very enjoyable too.
thank you!! love British detective shows 🙂 i still mourn Luther…
I’ve had my eye on that everlane tunic for a while (since it’s so similar to the Hope Gamd Sweater I LOVE but sadly can’t justify spending $$$$ on) so it’s great to read your thoughts on it….I may have to pick it up!
Kisha´s last blog post ..RESOLUTIONS & GOALS : ACCOMPLISHING THEM IN 2016
I ordered the cropped Waffle Knit Turtleneck and while I love the quality (so soft, even on bare skin) and the slim shoulders, I think the side slits are just too high on this one. I don’t mind wearing a tank underneath, I just feel it’s not all that flattering. That being said, it might look perfectly nice on someone with a smaller chest.
In case you’re looking for a crop that has the same quality and knit pattern, this one’s on sale (no sustainable anything here, though: COS is part of H&M). It has small side slits and is a little bit longer than Everlane’s. Just beware of the sizing. If COS mentions “boxy” or “oversized”, they really, really mean it. I’m a medium with Everlane and I’m swimming in the small: http://www.cosstores.com/us/Women/Sale/Knitwear/Chunky_waffle-knit_jumper/16265379-19044762.1#c-15133331
Might need to check out that waffle weave sweater. So pretty. Will also have add Broadchurch to my list of things to watch.
I too was frustrated with Making a Murderer, much like I was with Serial Season 1. It’s sad when you don’t have faith in the justice system.
I highly recommend Transparent and Mozart in the Jungle! Both on Amazon Prime and just good stories and amazing acting! Of course Girls is always good too. I just started The Man in the High Castle and enjoyed the first episode. Will keep watching.
Happy Friday!
this is on it’s way to me now – i’m interested to see if i feel the same, as i was loving it online! i really like the detailing at the hem, and in general i like side slits (despite them not being the most flattering). I also thought the navy looked like a nice, rich alternative to my usual black/gray…
First-time commenter…I just finished Girl at War by Sara Novic. It’s a quick read, and it blew me away, in part because the narrator/protagonist is my daughter’s age.
Listening to a lot of Sinatra lately…his phrasing never gets old.
I just finished reading Winter – the final in a YA series I was reading. Did you watch both seasons of Broadchurch? I love David Tennant in this because it is so different from much of the stuff he is known for. If you are into some Canadian TV X-Company is really good – set in WW2 and all sorts of fun spy stuff.
I have been really contemplating that waffle sweater but the Canadian dollar is killing me! I totally don’t need it so I might hold off on the Everlane buying until it bounces back a bit. I might be waiting a while!
Jane´s last blog post ..Grey and White with a pop of Red
thank you for the suggestion mary! I’ll look that up. i like quick reads 🙂
Love “Sherlock,” “Mercy Street” has potential if only I can get past the idea of Ted Mosby as a doctor, “Downton Abbey” even though they jumped the shark a long time ago (How much more trouble can one couple have??? Re: Anna and Bates), “London Spy” looks promising.
Still struggling with my reading. I’ve got to get back to it! You all have so many great suggestions.
I would love to see the waffle weave sweater in a crewneck, kind of like Zady’s shaker knit. It could conceivably be “perfect”!
