Hi!! so, I’m alive…barely 😉 We’re moved in, but still unpacking and getting settled. Anyway, here are the results of the Reader Favorites: Tall Boots survey and comments below – leave another comment if you have anything to add!!
Kelly #1:
“Loeffler Randall Matilde tall boots – THE BEST! but IMO run a bit small, I suggest size up half size.
Tory Burch Rosalie Boot (seems to run a bit tall, I think for people on the shorter side, might hit the back of your knee when you sit)
Madewell archive boot (comes in extra wide calf I believe, so this can work for just about everyone)”
Kelly #2:
“I favor the prosaic and not the fashionable- need to walk comfortably for miles while touring cities in the fall or winter. Keen Silverton – fabulous! Size up 1/2 size. I got mine on clearance in a brown and despite having another pair of slouchy black Keen knee boots in black, I want the Silverton. I’m considering trying the Keen Delancey.”
RJS:
“I’ve already mentioned, that I’m a Frye fan. My fave tall boots are their classic campus style. They’re kinda clunky, but work well with either jeans or leggings. They have a few variations. ”
Laurel:
“My favourite tall boots are the Dorina by La Canadienne, in black suede. They are the perfect heel height; very comfortable for walking and very chic. They go with everything: jeans, trousers, leggings, skirts, even harem pants. I got mine at a thrift store in Montreal for $10 but they are still available through the company’s website.
I have average sized calves but the Dorina have elasticized tops and a long zipper so someone with more muscular calves could probably be fine. They are made in Canada. They fit true to size.”
Julie:
“The best: Fiorentini & Baker Emma. The back laces can be adjusted to accommodate layers ie pants/leggings/tights. They run quite large, so make sure to follow sizing advice if ordering online. So cool yet classic! I’ve had mine for 3 years and they truly improve with age.”
Rose:
“I am not a cowgirl. I work in a conservative industry in a business formal office in a big city, and i wear these (Justin Arizona Boots) all the time. They are so comfortable an in my opinion they go with everything – and yes, I wear these dark brown boots with all black business clothes!”
Farha originally left the comment asking for a tall boots post – she is looking for something similar to this pair by Prada (but more affordable) and also likes the Camper Palmera boot if anyone has any other suggestions for her.

What a great post, Gretchen!
I bought the Camper Palmeras after ordering and returning these Derek Lams:
http://www.polyvore.com/10_crosby_derek_lam_loden/thing?id=90628425.
I think the Pradas are gorgeous but they didn’t have them in the Saks or Bloomingdales so I didn’t want to even order another pair off boots (especially so outside my price range) without trying on.
Last year, I bought tall Swedish Hasbeens and the year before that Stuart Weitzmans, both I am happy with!
Great post and thanks!
i love the camper palmeras – they’re going to be super-comfy…
I tried them on, along with the Stuart Weitzman 50/50 and the Loefler Randall Matilde.
The Matilde was way too wide for my calf.
If I could splurge on second pair it would be Stuart Weitzman 50/50 or Prada (if I could try them on).
the 50/50 boots are gorgeous, and would last forever. they’d be way too tall for me though!!
do you feel like the matildes are worth the price? they show up on sale frequently, but i wonder about the price sometimes. they’ve already proven their longevity i guess.
Great post, thanks! I might have to buy another pair of boots. (Maybe even ones that aren’t Fryes.) Good to hear that you’re settling in. I wonder what the new view will look like online? That’s not a hint for a new outfit post:).
The 50/50 are too tall for me too…you can scrunch them down. I am attracted to them (but won’t get them) because they are so slimming!
You know I have Loefler Randall flats, and clog sandals:

But I am not ready to invest in their boots. I though the Matilde was the “it” boot of this season
and then I tried them on in the Piperline store in Soho. BTW, the other really weird thing also was that neither Bloomingdales, Nordstroms nor Saks had the Matilde in their store.
My tipping price is $299…if you are going to pay more than $300 for boots, bag, coat etc…you should LOVE it, and it should make you look and feel amazing. I didn’t think that about Matilde (and am sure they will drop to 299 after XMAS).
haha! was going to try and do an outfit post today, but i don’t even have a full-length mirror up yet, that could be scary 😉
Glad that it all went well for you and Leo. I don’t envy you. Especially at this time of year. You are a BRAVE woman!
I don’t know where my head has been….First, I missed the “all about you” post (which I wanted to do…Menofog…) and now I forget to list my fave tall boots. Oh well, better late than never, right?
I love these by Bed-Stu because they work for my wider calves, even in a regular size (But they’re a little shorter than what I’d call TALL boots): http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/bed-stu-turn-boot/3291682?cm_cat=datafeed&cm_ite=bed_stu_%27turn%27_boot:544977&cm_pla=shoes:women:boots&cm_ven=Google_Product_Ads&mr:referralID=3e8714ae-675d-11e3-9f1f-001b2166becc
And these, also Bed-Stu: http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/bed-stu-bristol-boot/3291695?origin=category-personalizedsort&contextualcategoryid=0&fashionColor=TEAK+RUSTIC&resultback=193&cm_sp=personalizedsort-_-browseresults-_-1_2_C
If you’ve never tried Bed-Stu, they are totally worth it and I do NOT know how they make bench-crafted boots for that price! Also, be aware that they come with a “weathered” look.
Sometimes, J Crew for wide-calf, but I’ve been disappointed in them lately.
Congrats on the move! That must be a huge relief. Looking forward to your new view.
Thanks for the boots roundup. For my climate (bitterly cold and snowy), the Keens would probably be the best, but I’m also a huge fan of Camper and so would give those a go for more milder winter temps.
