Beaton Linen Raglan jacket/dress | pre-loved at slowre
Madewell Central shirt
Rag & Bone/JEAN Maya jeans | gift from my father
Dansko clogs
STATE The Label Potter’s coat | pre-loved at slowre
These aren’t technically “outfits,” although they could be…I was sans bebe yesterday for a little while so I played dress-up upstairs in my office for as long as possible LOL. Please forgive the mess, I took these to share with a friend, not intending to post them here. But you are friends too, no? And I wanted to share. And life is MESSY right now!
It’s been a while since I “modeled” items for slowre, and that’s mostly because not much fits me, but jackets do!! And I loved both of these the moment I got them, in fact I keep going back and forth on whether to purchase one or both for myself. The STATE coat is heavier, very much like Elizabeth Suzann’s cotton canvas, but softer and slightly drapier. It would be a good layer over a sweater for somewhere with a relatively mild winter.
The Beaton linen dress/jacket is lighter weight and dual-purpose, although I prefer it open, as a duster/jacket. I love it as part of an all-white (or mostly white) outfit, although I wouldn’t normally put something like that together, it was an accident. But I like it!
My dad bought me the jeans while he was here so I would have one pair of jeans that fit me and I LOVE THEM. They’re high rise, but not 100% cotton, so they’re very comfortable. I just can’t handle 100% cotton right now; I need some stretch for my fluffy postpartum body.
Finally, I’ve been wanting a linen Ichi dress in pink gingham for months (the one I wanted a few months ago sold out at Rennes quickly!) so when I saw this one pop up at Oroboro I pounced. It is VERY oversized on me, and I’ll be honest and say that it’s too overwhelming on my petite frame (you know I love oversized, but there might be a limit?). That said, I love it. I really love it. I wish it was slightly less wide, and maybe a little shorter, but I love the fabric, and the linen. Even so, I’d probably return it if I could, but it was final sale since I purchased it at a discount, so I can’t. I was going to get it up to sell at slowre, but then I was thinking…fuck it. Why don’t I just wear it? I can try and wear it and then sell it if I don’t, but why not at least try??
That’s it for now, Hawk is reaching his happy-by-himself limit, so time to go.
What have you bought lately? What’s on your list for fall??
Hi Gretchen, This is my first comment here. I find your blog -very inspiring and also refreshing.
The pink color looks very pretty on you. I am originally from India. So, I love to see colorful clothes :-). I very much love your selection of comfortable clothes..
Baby Hawk’s picture is so adorable. He looks very peaceful & content.
Once again, thanks a lot for your wonderful blog. warm regards.
LOVE the pink on you!
That Ichi pink tartan is awesome! Let me know when you are over it. xo
The dress is beautiful on you! I don’t think it overwhelms your body at all. It looks like it’s suppose to look but I know what you mean about there being a ‘limit’ on something that looks too oversized. I recently made the biggest wardrobe investment of my life on a sheepskin kimono coat by Milena Silvano and at first felt the coat was a bit too oversized for me. I haven’t been able to wear it out yet as it’s still too warm here, maybe in a month when the cooler weather arrives. I’ve been wearing it at home to get use to the look and I must say I don’t think it’s too oversized anymore. I think when an oversized style is right on the edge of being much, it may just take a few wears to get use to the silhouette, especially coats and dresses. Pants are the only piece of clothing that might not work at all when it’s too oversized.
I would like to be 2nd in line behind Carol! It’s super cute
you guys!! i love all this interest 😉
thanks wendy! you’re right, oversized pants are tough – i’ve always felt my ichi pants were a bit too wide and are sort of hard to wear for that reason. i am going to wear the dress !! 🙂
thank you!!
thank you so much rose 🙂
i love the pink and lately i’ve been wearing a bit more color, so I think i will try and embrace it! oversized or not…
Aww, look at that little cutie! Please keep posting Hawk pics! It’s so fun to live vicariously through you – minus the diapers and middle of the night feedings. 😉
I love the way you’re wearing the Ichi dress as a duster – so cute with jeans.
Who woulda’ believed it? Grechen in pink! I love it!
I think the pink dress looks great on you! Personally, I don’t think there is a limit on oversized as long as you still fit through a door (i.e. not a C19th crinoline). Definitely wear it and see 🙂
Maybe this is just because I used to work in a university, but the second jacket looks a lot like a scientist’s lab coat.
Such a pretty pink gingham. I agree about Ichii, the dress I have (typewriter dress) is so voluminous and long. I don’t mind oversized. I find it surprising as most other items I have from Japan don’t feel to me as is made for a tall person. I do like that you can wear this one open and it doesn’t look like it absolutely needs a full pressing (mine does). I like it on you.
I love your white clogs!!! I remember seeing your blog back in the day. Just came across it again, glad to see you’re still doing your thing, and still so relatable! 🙂 Gonna make sure to keep checking back.
