I had mostly decided to take this week “off” and just sit with my thoughts and ideas about life and stuff, but I couldn’t resist a quick post about my new Rag & Bone Aston boots. I had posted about them a few times here and on Grechen’s Codes and became pretty obsessed after trying them on at Nordstrom a month or so ago. BUT, I wasn’t ready to pay full price for them, even if I could, so decided to wait them out and see if they went on sale.
While I was in Austin my friend and I went to Nordstrom where I showed them to her. I mentioned that I’d found them at Bergdorf the day before for $321, and she says, well, Nordstrom will price match (enabler!!). Long story short, she ended up getting them at Nordstrom with the price match and when I got home the next day, I ordered them from Shopbop with my credit and got them to price match also.
Then on Sunday she sent me a link to the boots on SSENSE (sold out there) where they were/are $288, so I called Shopbop first thing Monday to see if they’d price match AGAIN. And they did. With a little hesitation though; their policy is that they only do it at the time of purchase, if the price goes down even more after that, you’re out of luck. But the representative said she’d do it for me “this time,” to which I thanked her profusely and awaited the refund of $32. And I was happy.
Then, Les Nouvelles offered an additional % off their sale items for a time so the boots went down to about $230!!! $230. I didn’t want to push my luck asking for another refund, so I let it go, but my friend, who’d only price-matched once, called Nordstrom and got a refund for nearly $100 on her previous purchase. Anyway, I thought I got a pretty good deal getting the boots for $288, which was 50% off their full price.
After all that, and my decision to order them in my true size (38/8), I was nervous that I wouldn’t love them, and would have to send them back. But, man, I love them so much, I’d marry them if I could.
My true size is perfect, wearing a thin pair of socks, and they’re actually wide enough at the ankle to allow me some room, which NEVER happens given that I basically don’t have ankles, just really wide calves! I’ve worn them every day since I got them on Thursday and they’re incredibly comfortable. And really beautiful. They’re such a unique pair of boots, I think. Chic & just a little edgy. I can wear them with everything, and pretty much will for a while…
I know it’s early, but I feel like this is a pair of boots I’d love to have for many many years. I hope they do a version every year, like they’ve done with the Harrow style – of course I’m already thinking that I need a backup pair, and maybe another color if they do more. But for now, I’m good. I highly, highly, highly recommend these booties, and I recommend taking them in your “normal” size – NOT necessarily your normal Rag & Bone size, which for me is usually a size UP (39).
Here are all the places online I’ve found the boots – right now Les Nouvelles is the cheapest at $288 and they have only a size 8 left. Of course, Shopbop will match that price, Nordstrom too, if you find your size there. They don’t seem to ask questions or require that your size be in stock – only that you provide them with a link to the item so they can verify the price. You will have to call to place an order if you price match.
Shopbop | $575
Bergdorf Goodman | $402
Neiman Marcus | $431
Nordstrom | $344
The Dreslyn | $460
Les Nouvelles | $288 – size 8 only
Tell me your price-matching stories. What was the best deal you got?
OK, Grechen, this is hilarious. I was just looking at those boots and wonderingβ¦ “Are they comfortable? Do they go with everything? I wonder if I should check with Grechen. She’ll know.” AND YOU DO KNOW!!!!
I took your advice and now I am super happy. I have never, ever, ever called a CS line and asked for price matching. THIS WAS SO EASY & AWESOME! I checked with Shopbop, they had one pair of 41 left, and I got them for $288, no tax, no shipping (Amazon Prime). The CS people on both the live chat and phone at Shopbop could not be any better – totally efficient, so knowledgeable and sweet as pie!
This is what will be waiting under the tree for me on Christmas morning, all thanks to you and your sassy sense of deal-getting. THANK YOU! Hope you’re having a happy Hanukkah! xo
um, that is awesome!! π
you will LOVE THEM. and yes, both times I called shopbop i was SO impressed with the service and how attentive, etc., the representative was.
please let me know what you think after you get them! and merry christmas to you π
Grechen, you answered the exact questions I had after you posted about buying these boots. Your friend isn’t the enabler; YOU are. π
Stories about hunting down the absolute best price on a high quality, super comfortable item that multi-functions in your wardrobe are my favorite. I hope you will always share these experiences, even if you feel your readers should refer back to this post about how to do it. For me, it’s like learning math; repetition is key.
Grechen! I can’t tell if your readers just have the same taste as you, or if you telepathically send messages to us, saying “this is what you need….” I’ve been looking to replace a short black boot, and like Susan, above, I’ve been considering the Aston. Enter your post! I actually was able to find them for $229 at Barney’s (size 6, 36 EU left), and ShopBop matched the price! I chatted with them via live chat, sent in the link, and the put a note on my file, so I was able to call in and order them right away, no hassle. Incidentally, the boots are now on sale at ShopBop anyway for $287.50. Thanks so much for the tip – happy holidays!!
Love them!! If your boots could commit Polygamy, I’d marry them, too! π
haha!
hmmm…i don’t know, but good question π
i tried to find them at barney’s, but i think they’d sold out. you got them at such a great price…i hope you love them – have you received them yet??
happy holidays to you too!!
I just ordered the boots, and had them shipped to a friend’s house where I’ll be over the holidays. However, they’re supposed to arrive later today!
Here’s the link to the Barney’s boots. They’re showing a US 9/EUR 39 as well, which I was tempted to get “just in case” the 8.5 ones from ShopBop don’t work. I only have one other pair of r&b – and they’re sandals, and they were an 8.5 so I”m hopeful these 8.5 Astons will work. My usual size is an 8.5 US/39 EUR, so I’m unsure!
