I’ve never been one for very structured bags; I always prefer at least a little slouch, but while checking out some of the new Rachel Comey arrivals at twentythirtyforty I fell in love with this:
I think what I love most about it (besides the color) is that it has a handle and a strap. Genius. But I also couldn’t help but think I should be able to find something similar for much less money on etsy – either handmade or vintage – and look what I found:
This one was my favorite by que jiminez, although I’d prefer a different color, and might be able to do without the heart. But she can do that!! And it’s only $245, half the price of the Rachel Comey.
What do you think of saddlebags? Do you prefer structure or slouch in your bags?
I saw those que jiminez bags a couple of weeks ago and it is LOVE. So cute.
I admit, I love a good structured bag but it does somewhat limit what you can jam inside it. (Probably better for my back and arms anyway!) I’d love to find something like this with some actual hand-tooled details.

it’s all about the slouchy structure for me 😉 as you know, my dunlin lafayette has both in perfect harmony! i have a strange aversion to the super structured, “rigid” styles like the hermes kelly or mulberry ‘lady’ bags, where it’s essentially a boxy square or rectangle with a really stiff leather all around. i can admire the birkin silhouette for its iconic style, but can’t ever envision myself wearing something with that look at all!

oh…yes!!!!
but i’m with you generally – i don’t see a style like this fitting into my lifestyle. it’s too “hard”
also – there are a lot of great vintage coach saddle bags from the 70s and 80s on etsy and ebay if you’re craving a bohemian saddle bag at a good price 🙂 i think luckymag’s andrea linnett has waxed poetic about this 70s-chic classic bag…
