If you’ve been reading Grechen’s Closet for a while, you know that I don’t do sparkly. Even on New Year’s Eve. Especially on NYE, actually, since my step-son is always with us LOL.
I’m also not great at picking out “traditional” party or special occasion dresses; I need my clothes to work for me, in lots of situations and occasions, not just “special” ones. And there’s not much I hate more than buying a piece for one event, then watching it languish in the back of my closet, never to be worn again.
So keeping those things in mind, I’ve chosen just a few dresses I’d wear for a NYE party, or any party, for that matter, and then I’d wear them again and again in everyday life. For parties, I believe in being appropriate and comfortable over anything else, and maybe a little fancy if you feel like it. Hence the prints. (fancy for me, okay??) I’ve even thrown in a sparkly dress (the Reformation) that’s an excellent option for parties and special occasions, and since it’s inherently sustainable, I wouldn’t feel too badly about wearing it only a few times a year.
What are you doing for NYE? What will you wear? What is your party dress philosophy?
Hope you had a merry Christmas if you celebrated 🙂
NYE in my late 40’s mostly consist of wearing my PJ’s and fuzzy slippers! But if I were to go out to a party, I’d love to wear that sweater dress (#4) ‘cuz it looks comfy and I can see myself dressing it up. So I think that’s my criteria these days for a “party dress”–it has to be comfortable and simple, where I can count on accessorizing to jazz it up a bit!
I’m strictly in Henny’s camp on this one: Pj’s, cozy socks, snacks and hors d’ouerves & maybe some Prosecco while watching “When Harry Met Sally” with my husband & channel flipping to watch the ball drop.
BUT…if I did dress up and get social, I’d wear the Elizabeth Suzann dress in a color…maybe red? I’m not shy about color, but it’s got to be comfy. I’d probably wear black leggings and booties with it. And a cool etsy necklace.
Also in my 40’s but I will be going out to dinner, albeit early!.Will be home well before midnight! I plan to wear my Elizabeth Suzann Vera dress (in black) with heels, silver earrings and my leather jacket..
I do like the Reformation sparkly dress!
