Happy Friday!!! So, here’s the Hackwith Design House “basic” dress I keep talking about in size medium. I love it! I wore it yesterday for running errands and lunch with a friend and was perfectly comfortable, even in 100+ degree heat. But, I have to say that honestly, if it wasn’t for reader Dianne’s email about how much she loves this dress, I might not have given it a chance because of the polyester. But I’m glad I did. (thanks Dianne!)
It sort of feels similar, but heavier, than James Perse’s brushed jersey fabrication, which I really like. And it drapes nicely. This dress, actually, is very similar in style to the JP dress that I wanted for one of the Bar Mitzvah events, so I’ll wear this one instead (to the Saturday evening party).
I’m absolutely going to get the sleeves shortened, at least to my elbows, because I think they’re overwhelming on me. The sleeves make the dress look too big right now, and I think shortening them will help balance it a bit better. And since it narrows a bit right below the hips, I couldn’t size down to a small; It’s already pretty snug when I sit down in it, I wouldn’t be able to in a small…ah…hips LOL.
And I’ve decided to send the long sleeve shirt back. It’s too big on me, for one thing, and for another, I just can’t get over the feel of the fabric. It’s also polyester, but feels very different from the dress; more cheap. I really loved the shape though, and she does make a couple other colors in 100% cotton, so I’d recommend trying one of those if you like the shape – and especially now with the 30% off code.
If you’re interested in trying any Hackwith Design House pieces, I recommend doing it now with their 30% off code, especially the swimsuit π
Has anyone ordered anything? Or already own any Hackwith Design pieces? What do you think?
Oh, I’m loving this! It seems like it would be more functional than my AA Adia dress, since it’s a bit longer.
Hi Grechen. You look amazing! What a beautiful stylish dress. My favourite of all your looks
I don’t understand the size chart for the dress. Width? What dimension is that? Otherwise I think it looks great and am quite tempted.
I honestly didn’t even pay attention to the size chart. Just went with medium. I guess width is the hip width? Or around? It is pretty wide around my waist/hips but then narrows , so I absolutely needed medium
Thanks sharon.
Wow that looks great on you. Really elegant. And I can see where it can go from casual to dressy really easily. π
I have to say that the photos on the website don’t impress me in the slightest so I’m very pleasantly surprised. I really like shapes like this in general so I’m tempted now to give it a try. It’s too short and boxy on the models, IMO. (The brown one especially – looks like hospital scrubs.)
i probably wouldn’t have ordered it had i not received an email from a reader saying how much she liked hers…and without the discount code, i’ll be honest π
Love this dress on you, Grechen! Perfect choice for the celebrations. I’m happily surprised that you like the fabric…who woulda’ thought?!?
I love her aesthetic. I also love that the models have “real” (Yes. All women are real. I just mean as opposed to super-skinny professional models.) bodies. I’d do the top in one of the cotton fabrics, for sure. Haven’t made the leap yet, but I might.
