Hello – thank you so much for checking in; it’s been too long and I miss you!

I have a lot of updates:

We went to Atlanta (Marietta exactly) to close on our new house on 3/22 and just got back to Texas this past Sunday.  We spent some time there with family and to take care of some things at the new house (which we are sooo excited about!).  It’s in good shape, but we wanted to arrange to have a few things done before we move in mid-May.  We are having the kitchen cabinets painted (white) and quartz countertops (grey) installed  along with some minor carpentry things.  My mom, nephew and I spent a lot of time in the backyard (which is HUGE) cleaning out some of the English Ivy, pulling up weeds, and throwing away random trash I found ALL OVER.

One of the reasons we loved this house is the yard, but honestly I’m finding it very overwhelming.  We have plans for lots of raised beds for vegetables (they had an above ground pool there so there is a large area that seems conducive to that) and I’d like to plant native plants and work towards becoming a wildlife sanctuary.  There is sooo much work to be done though!!! We don’t have any grass at all, which is fine, but that basically means the yard(s) are all weeds.  We do have a couple of very large blueberry bushes on the side of the house that the previous owners said produced many bushels of berries last summer so we’re excited about that.

I am impatient though.  I know the house/yard will be a work in progress for many years, which is sort of exciting (an adventure, yay!! lol) and not at the same time haha.  My mother has an abundance of amazing plants – many native – in her yard that we’re working on transplanting to mine, and my nephew has a raised bed garden at my sister’s house, so I have a lot of help and input, for which I am so grateful.  I also have a cousin who does landscape design/manages a public garden in Kentucky and I will hopefully get to pick his brain over Thanksgiving.  I can’t believe we’re moving back … I wasn’t sure it would ever happen…

I did put a bluebird house up ASAP after seeing bluebirds in the yard, so maybe we’ll have a nest when we return?

As for the house itself, thank you so much for all your input on furniture on my last post.  I did a lot of looking and researching and then decided to wait until we’re moved in and even settled in a bit before buying anything at all.  First, we may not have any money left after improvements and the yard, and second, it’s probably a good idea to get to know the house first, and how we will REALLY live in it.  Ultimately I may want to spend more time and money outside than inside.  We do have a very large solid concrete patio that will need furnishing, something that is rather rare in north Georgia and another big reason we fell for this house.  Many houses have wood porches that are very high up with a flight of stairs or more getting down to the yard.  I didn’t want that either for Dagny or Hawk.

**also, did you know that most couch cushions/pillows are feather-filled??? I had no idea.  Now that has complicated my search significantly! I am finding some very good alternatives, but it turns out IKEA has quite a few options as well.

Moving on.  Leo and I have both received our first vaccinations and I am so relieved.  I am starting to feel…dare I say it…hopeful? Even though mask mandates have been lifted, people still wear masks (there is always one without).  And there was a steady stream of people getting vaccinated, which made me proud for my community.  Maybe things are looking up.

I have purchased quite a few new things recently but since I’m out of time for now, I’ll (hopefully) be back tomorrow with more details.  One thing I bought and have already received were the way high jeans in flax from Everlane.  I almost didn’t buy them after Leah’s review (AND that Everlane deleted her account…), but I couldn’t stop thinking about them, AND I myself have credit that I have EARNED from Everlane that I wanted to use up in case they deleted my account too.  I got the size 32 and they are typically too big and too small at the same time.  But they are pretty comfortable, and I think I can work with them on days that I want to wear jeans.  I will post more details later this week.

I also used quite a bit of saved-up credit I earn at Shopbop during their Spring coupon code event (STYLE for 15-25% off orders over $200) to get some basics AND finally a pair of Suicoke sandals. YAY!!! (I hope they fit).
