James Perse tucked 3/4 sleeve raglan dress | sold out, purchased summer 2015
Vince perforated sneakers
MM6 perforated neoprene tote | similar, faux leather-looking version
I did not leave the house very often this weekend, in clothing other than what I wear for Pure Barre and to walk Dagny. But after my 75 minute ab-intensive Pure Barre session on Saturday, Leo and I went to a restaurant I’d been wanting to try for lunch and this is what I wore. I planned on eating as much as humanly possible, so stretchy & comfortable was in order.
This is such a “normal” Grechen outfit; what I tend to be most comfortable in, I didn’t even think much about it. But following on from last week’s conversation on how we fit in, or don’t, where we live based on how we dress, I was shockingly out of place in downtown McKinney in this dress. First, black. Second, black. Third, black again. And oh yeah, it’s pretty curve-hugging.
Not that any of that bothered me at all, because I was so comfortable and content (and still off an adrenaline high from an amazing workout), I didn’t even think about it. I do like to observe sartorial patterns wherever I go though, which is where my thoughts come into play. Anyway, there are some great comments on that previous post if you’re interested in this topic at all – lots of food for thought….
Happy Monday!! I have some GOOD REVIEWS for you this week!!!!!!!! so excited 🙂

First thing j noticed in your pics was how how comfortable you look in this dress! This dress really looks great on you!!
thanks elaine!!
Forgive my ignorance…..how does the rest of downtown McKinney dress?
You’d look perfectly “in place” here in Christchurch, New Zealand (and if I saw you in town, I’d definitely be stopping you to ask where you got that dress; it’s divine!)
thank you michelle 🙂
downtown mckinney is sort of typical suburban, with a texan vibe : LOTS and LOTS of color & pattern, and some bedazzling/rhinstones here and there…
I dig this look so much! You just look so effortless and chic – two words I always think of when I think of your style 🙂
I’m in flux with my style right now. For the first in my life, I’m really drawn to very neutral and androgynous styles. I love it, but it still feels weird to me. I’m so used to being the girl in dresses. But what’s the fun of personal style if you can’t mix it up sometimes, right??
Great dress! Love how simple this look it. Striving for that myself. On a random note, have you reviewed any of the Everlane “muscle” tees? Interested in purchasing some but would love to see them reviewed first. I could not find any reviews on your site – they seem to have a few versions (like the clean edge one and then there is another one too…) — Can I request a review of both versions? And would also love a review of anything else new for spring/summer! Thanks!!!
I agree with Elaine! You look totally comfortable with yourself, and happy! With good reason!!! 🙂
You make me want this dress SO bad, but I’d be a 4 with a tummy…even with SPANX.
Nope. Not you. 😉
I have this exact dress, Grechen, and it’s because of YOU! You definitely do wear it well too!
Can’t wait to read the reviews you’ll be posting this week 🙂
uh, you must have read my mind or something 🙂
i have a ryan muscle tank in my cart right now, and i will add the other two versions to compare. one is backordered in certain colors though…
can’t wait to see the new linen styles!
Thank you!
when will we see an outfit picture?? 😉
i’m really enjoying your blog BTW – love your isabel marant jacket!!!
haha. no, no way…
thanks cathy – i’ve been trying to find my personal style forever it seems. i think i’m pretty predictable now, but i don’t think my style is “defined” in any way. besides just being “minimal” to a certain extent?
i say have fun with it, embrace what you’re drawn to in the moment…whatever it is!!
Gah! Wish that dress was still available. I love it. And you look fabulous!
