Admonish bag (coming soon!) | not mine, I was just trying it on
If you follow me on Instagram, you already saw that my friends Admonish were in town from Austin this weekend for FashionXDallas to showcase their new collection of bags. They are AMAZING. I’m partial to this distressed leather half-barrel bag, but the backpacks were getting most of the attention during the show. I’ll let you know when their online shop is back up and how you can buy them, but for now, just enjoy how beautiful they are. And check out their Instagram account for updates and more pictures of the new bags.
I decided to ditch the capsule wardrobe experiment (more on that later), but I did practice wearing things more than one day in a row this weekend and wore my new Inhabit sweater and Everlane loafers both days hanging out with my friends. The loafers are definitely breaking in; I walked a lot in them this weekend. I did get a blister on my right foot from a little rubbing on my heel, and that’s the foot that seems bigger than the other, so it still squeezes my pinky toe a little, but overall, they were comfortable, and I’m glad I stuck with my regular size 8.
The Inhabit sweater was something I sort of had to convince myself to keep when I got it during Shopbop’s F&F code, but I’m glad I did. It’s BIG. But it’s supposed to be. And the shape is definitely unconventional, which is why I bought it in the first place. It’s super-cozy though, and warm (maybe too warm for 60’s…), and I got a ton of compliments on it, so I’m glad I kept it. It does pill like crazy, and sheds a little, but I sort of expected that. I don’t really know how to avoid that…
I hope you had a great weekend, and a lovely week ahead. Any interesting plans?
And tell me, how many days in a row can you wear something, aside from when you’re traveling? I’ve always had a hard time wearing the same thing more than one day at a time (EVEN when traveling), but I’m trying to get better at it.
Perfect outfit! Comfy and chic.

Nice hand bag! I like that it’s distressed and also like the leather strap on the shoulder. I’m not a fan of all chain handles.
I usually wear jeans .. maybe twice before they hit the laundry. If I wore jeans to work on Friday, I may wear the same jeans on Saturday .. or not .. lol.
Sweaters I try to get a couple of wears out of them before they look too stretched to wear.
Monica.

You really have Polished Casual down! It’s inspiring, actually, to see how much personality you can bring in to a neutral palette, through just enough of the unconventional (that cardi! great!). And oh, I’m coveting the loafers, although I think I have to hold the line on shoe shopping for now.
Love that bag on you & with that outfit! And that’s odd for me, because normally I really segregate black & brown! But the oiled or distressed finished on the bag looks great with the grey, black & white.
I will wear items more than once before washing, but I really don’t like to wear things multiple days in a row. I work in an office, and even though it’s business casual, I don’t feel right doing it. People notice. Plus, I do *not* have a minimal closet, so I need every day to wear the clothing I keep collecting 🙂 (though I really have sloed down on shopping, and most of my clothing goes with a lot of other things, so I have the mix & match part down…)
The bags are gorgeous! I love the tan bags, especially the small one on the second shelf down!! It’s a shame about the capsule wardrobe experiment not working out, I’m interested to hear more. Capsule wardrobes take time and effort to develop and sometimes that can get in the way of just enjoying your clothes…and that’s no fun 🙂

thanks ashley!
yes! i really didn’t like chain handle bags before these – i can’t imagine carrying a bag with only a chain strap, wouldn’t that be painful after a while??
thank you so much frances! i’m so happy with both the loafers and the cardigan – very glad i decided to keep them both. i love a little bit of the unconventional here and there…
i know! i have a hard time with black and brown together too, but i think the distressing gives the brown leather so much character it just works.
i am the same way as you with regard to wearing things more than once but not on consecutive days LOL – i wear my clothes a lot before i wash them, but don’t normally wear them more than one day in a row. which means i have a lot of clothes hanging around waiting to be worn again!!
I love the bag!
I will wear my wool & cashmere sweaters many times before washing them. Merino wool in particular does not retain odors, so as long as there are no visible spills/marks/stains, I’ll keep wearing them. I almost always wear a thin t-shirt underneath to prevent underarm deodorant stains.
But I always let them air out for a day before wearing them again. I try to do the same with my shoes.
Other than my wool clothing, I wear freshly-washed clothes to work. I work in a crowded office and also with the public, so I just feel more confident if I know everything is fresh and clean. I have a small wardrobe, so I do repeat outfits and pieces very frequently–just not on consecutive days.
On the weekends, I will sometimes re-wear a pair of jeans that I wore earlier in the week.
I wear things multiple times in a week (not necessarily days in a row). A great pair of jeans or skinny black pants are classics – and I am am trying the uniform idea – so much easier to get dressed (skinny pants,/jeans, button down (silk, whit or chambray) and boxy sweater (gray, black, navy), and loafers or boots. Can mix and match everything – easy and love it..
OK, so I’m starting to feel gross here….or European. I wear jeans for up to a week before washing (sans spills or dirt) but not on consecutive days. Sweaters, several days if it’s a cardi that acts like a jacket on coolish days, and pullovers, probably twice, but again, never consecutive days. I’ve been known to throw on my trusty signature Saint James tee two days in a row, but the 5-yr old I babysit for asked me “How come you don’t take showers?” yesterday, so that’s a no-go from now on! Haha! Nothing like a kid to tell you like it is (But, really, I am clean!) 🙂
I’m with Frances: “Grechen style” is polished casual! You look great…so relaxed…in this pic. And your hair is perfect!
