I had this whole long post ready about how I’m having a 37-year-old crisis which is culminating in my constantly second-guessing my personal style. Suffice it to say that my crisis is over; I returned both pairs of Seychelles booties and am going to order another pair of Swedish Hasbeens clogs. I’m coming to terms with the fact that although I may love a look on someone else, not everything is going to look the same – or even good – on me, i.e., booties & oxford flats (over the weekend I also bought a pair of incredibly cute Jeffrey Campbell oxford flats, but returned them after trying them on with everything I have. I so wanted them to work on me, but they didn’t.) And that’s okay. Nothing feels like “me” more than a comfortable pair of jeans, a James Perse tee, Inhabit cashmere cardigan and a pair of flats, or leggings, clogs & a sweater dress. And I’m not going to apologize to anyone anymore about that.
So here was yesterday’s outfit:
Gap jeans
Gap sweater (I think this is a men’s sweater, but it was on the sale rack in the women’s section – it was $15 after F&F discount!)
J Crew suede ballet flats
Alexander Wang Coco Duffel
swooning over the bag…
No need to apologize at all! I love reading your blog and you always look great. You have a look, it works for you, and that’s what’s important. =)
Never apologize for being YOU! That’s why we all love you. You know better than we do, what works for you. So, you go, girl!
(and BTW, you look adorably chic in your outfit today! ; )
yay for sticking to your personal style! š
i think this look is so perfect and looks so awesome on you. french stripey shirt + jeans + flats and a killer bag is always chic and seasonless!
.-= miss sophie´s last blog ..a time for sequins =-.
Well, I loved the booties on you, but I’m glad you went with your gut on this one. When you dress in a way that is “YOU” then you feel comfortable and confident, and that is what really matters! Every time I get talked into buying something that isn’t “me,” it just sits in my closet, because I can’t figure out how to wear it/style it, etc. It ends up being a waste of money, and cause of frustration.
All your fans love that you are solidly Grechen…and it doesn’t hurt at all that I relate quite a bit to your personal style. š You look adorable in the photo above.
yeah, i still do too š
thank you guys! so many things happening in my life right now – maybe it wasn’t the best time to try something different with my style LOL
Great outfit pick and wow, I would have never guessed your age! I thought you were in your late twenties or early thirties at the most. You have a distinct style and you know what works for you, so I’m glad you went with the clogs. Other things may be tempting but when you walk out the door you will always only grab what you feel “right” in. so way to go!
thanks nanashi – i feel like i shouldn’t be questioning something so essential to “me” as my personal style at 37! i see so many things i love on others but when i try them, they’re just not “me” – i feel like a different person somehow, like i’m pretending. which is fun sometimes…but i’m more comfortable with my super-casual, but hopefully-chic style š
I see life as a series of “stages.” We try all the trends when we’re young, whether they work for us or not. Then, we try to find a style, and that involves lots of experimentation, buy and toss. Finally, I think we grow confidently into who we really are and don’t care if we’re trendy or on point, but most importantly, we feel like ourselves when we’re dressed in our “ME” clothes. I’m 49 and I can say that I’m finally at that point. And it’s taken YEARS to get there. I’m humble enough to say, “Who knows? Maybe I’ll go through another transformation!” And it’s FUN!
