First, if you are thick of leg, as I am, stop reading this and go to Barney’s to get your own pair of these jeans for $89; they’re still available in sizes 27, 28 and 29 and I can’t recommend them highly enough. I’m wearing a size 29, which is a size too big in this style, but I was afraid to go down for fear they wouldn’t fit my calves. I usually wear these with a belt, and I had intended to get them taken in a bit in the waist so they’re not SO huge, but I haven’t yet, so, they look quite a mess around the waist.
It’s frustrating, that they’re so big around the waist/hip area, but that is my plight: I have to size up in denim to get them to fit my calves.ย There are worse things.
And I stalked this LNA top at Shopbop until it came back in stock in my size, and I’m glad I did.ย I love it, and wear it whenever I can – luckily it’s been rather warm some days this week, so I could.
I’m trying VERY hard to get you guys some pictures in setting other than in front of my garage door, but it’s harder than it looks (as you can see with the blurry picture above)! I will be getting more professional photos done, but it’s important to me to still photograph what I actually wear, and I can get those easiest and sharpest, and with the fastest turn around in front of the neutral background of my garage door.

Happy Friday!!!!
Just to say that I like your garage door pictures very much and I don’t really care for a different background. I’m just looking at the outfit, anyway, and I don’t expect you to provide more than that. A neutral constant background is all that’s needed, in my opinion.
I agree with the comment below – And this outfit is great – I like the slightly baggy jeans.
I meant above!!!
I completely agree– your garage door is perfectly fine! Do whatever is easiest for you. You are approachable and wonderful and I don’t feel like I have to put on makeup just to read your blog.
I agree with above commenters! I come for the outfits, not the scenery ; ) Whatever works well for you is sufficient!
Also, that top looks particularly darling on you! I don’t generally prefer the “cold-shoulder” styles, but this one just reveals a bit of your shoulder instead of hanging down onto the top of your arm. It’s much more flattering like this.
Wow, that top looks amazing on you! Congrats on another great buy!
Btw can I get your opinion sizing of James Perse dresses? I’m thinking of getting the JP skinny crew dress – on sale but only available in size 3. (I have only one other JP dress – the hooded black fleece dress in size 2 which fits well (but it’s much thicker material). Have you ever tried any JP dresses in size 3? Are they much bigger – and do you think I could get away with sizing up in thinner jersey dresses that are ruched? Thanks!
I would not do a size 3 personally. I used to wear 3 and don’t like them anymore on me because they don’t hold in enough. THat said the dress is pretty different than the hooded one and can feel very tight if you’re not used to it, so sizing up might be okay. You could try it. It’s at Nordstrom rack, right? So it’s not final sale anyway…
Sorry for being so roundabout! The dresses are different so in this case I don’t think sizing up would be the end of the world. Especially since you’re not accustomed to the ruched dresses…
thanks meg – that’s a main reason i got this one, i prefer it to the drapier ones, and i like the slightly open neckline on this. also the curved hem, and the ribbing – it’s got everything, really ๐
thanks marie!
thanks beth – i should hope not ๐
thanks lori! i do like the different lighting and texture that “professional” pictures achieve though, and i’ll do them every once in a while still, but i do love a neutral background LOL
Thanks for the info, Gretchen, that’s really helpful to know! It’s so great that you can share so much sizing info as JP sizing is so confusing! Size 2 is listed as S in small stores and M in others! After your msg I think I am actually happier with size 3 as I do like things to fit slightly looser (as long as it doesn’t drown me!). Actually SAKS has the dress I got in all sizes but 2!

Ok, so I’m out-voted on the garage door. Whatever you do, I’m fine with! But I DO think you look relaxed and amazing in that top with the trees in the background. You’re in-focus, it’s the trees that are soft-focus. So, anyway…
I have a cold-shoulder top but I only wear it around the house in the summer and I think it’s because it hits too low on my arm. Plus, it’s too drapey underneath and I get “bra viewage.” It should go!
Just as an FYI, I believe the 6397 Shorty Jeans are meant to be relaxed/baggy and so the waist is cut quite loose as it should sit around the hips and not high on the waist (it is not a high rise jean but more of a slight drop crotch). I own 2 pairs in a size 28 which is my typical denim size and I can pretty much pull them off of me without undoing the buttons. I wear these jeans belted on my hips and I also own other styles in 6397 which are all cut really low. So I think you have the right size (29) in this jean. Your true size will be what fits your “largest” body part. In other words, if my waist fits a 27 but my hips or thighs fit a 28, then I’m probably a size 28 (even if I’d like to think I’m a 27 :-).
Is that top restocked often? It’s amazing! But I can’t find it in an M anywhere.
I can’t either… It was restocked at least once since i started watching it – or it was a return – so it may be again.
Not completely outvoted–I’m with you too! I don’t mind the garage door shots but I really like other shots as well–partly because I think maybe Grechen looks a little more relaxed in those. I agree she looks fantastic in the outdoor shot and it better showcases how she would look in real life in her outfits.
And Grechen, the redesign is terrific! Very clean and inviting. Love your blog more than ever!
I love the garage door photos ๐
You look just great in that shirt.
