I talk about stripes a lot and I post tons of striped tops, but I don’t own very many. Last week when Sharon and I were checking out the sale at one of our favorite local boutiques, Kickpleat, I became obsessed with owner Wendi Koletar’s look: striped top, black jeans, loafers. It was perfect, so I set out to find myself a striped top. Hers was probably Saint James, it was longer and bigger than mine, but for $26, I’m VERY pleased with this LOFT version. It’s just as thick as the Saint James tops, and a lot less money. Maybe even a little less boxy…and I love the boatneck.
Yay for stripes!!
**edited to add: I’m also trying out the tinted moisturizer by Bobbi Brown (I got a sample at Nordstrom). I like the consistency of it, but it’s a bit dark. In some light I think it looks perfectly blended, but in others I feel like it’s too dark for my skintone…

oops!! fixed now i hope! thanks for letting me know.
Being an expert on all things striped (I sound like “Cliff Claven…the mailman from “Cheers.” Were you old enought to watch that show? Very well-written comedy.), I would say that there are varying weight among the Saint James styles, including some that are quite heavy. Look on the website: http://www.darcyclothing.com/shop/catalogsearch/result/?q=saint+james (It freaks you out a little at first. You’re expecting Mr. Darcy to appear in full regalia. But they’ve got great prices on St. James!) They’ve got a ton of Saint James at great prices (when you convert from lbs. to dollars).
Did you mean the BB cream or the TM? Can’t help you with the TM, but I took the “fair” in the BB cream and it’s perfect, if a tiny bit light. I think I have the same coloring as you, as much as you can tell from a computer…
I’m trying the TM – i tried some BB creams and found them not to be as moisturizing as i generally like. my skin is SOO dry…but i’ll try bobbi’s bb cream out and see if it works.
The BB cream by Bobbi Brown is NOT very moisturizing, Grechen. I have it and I still have to use a moisturizer underneath (usually Josie Maran’s argan oil). But the coverage is nice.
of course i’m old enough to have watched cheers!!
i know there are different weights for saint james, i’m just fixated on the heavier ones π i tend to like the way they fit/hang/glide over my hips…then again, the heavy materials isn’t very practical for TX.
i guess i would layer over my argan oil anyway, but with the BB creams i’ve tried (dr. jart & one other one…) i felt they were kind of drying on my skin, and provided “weird” coverage. i know i haven’t tried many, but it kind of turned me off.
I like ’em all!! (you know me and stripes) but sometimes I find that a little “give” in the knit tends to follow my curves and give me a waistline (I know, not your problem! Jealous, jealous!!!) So I like the mid-weight.
I’ve read that about several. Really weird covereage. Maybe you’re just better off with a tinted moisturizer. Bobbi makes a good one (and she now provides one for oily and one for dry skin…much better in my opinion) but my daughter Rachel, 24, is obsessed with Smashbox’s Tinted Moisturizer because she tends to break out and it doesn’t do that to her. Plus she likes some coverage. I’d say, if you want coverage, go with Smashbox; sheer, go with Bobbi Brown.
