Storq Maternity pencil skirt (size 3) | gift from Storq to review
Everlane linen shirt (several years old) | my favorite Everlane piece
Clergerie Acajou Oxfords
Storq generously sent me quite a few things to review recently: the ribbed tank dress, the ribbed jumpsuit, the caftan, and the Basics bundle (includes leggings, white tank, black dress and this pencil skirt). I have worn the ribbed tank dress out once and then at home almost every day, and this skirt twice out so far. Yesterday I had a dr. appointment which requires two pieces for the obligatory measuring-and-listening to the belly, otherwise I would have worn a dress since it’s getting HOT here.
I’m not sure the leggings or the jumpsuit will work for me; my waist is too short for both. As my belly grows, they may fit better (I hope so!!), but for now, I can’t wear the jumpsuit. I love a drop crotch, but it’s a bit too dropped, and the fit is just wrong right now. Same with the leggings – I think Elaine mentioned having a similar problem with their leggings, so not great for short people I’m afraid. I’ll give both of those pieces a try again in a couple of months.
This skirt though….It’s fabulous!! So comfortable, and just right. I wear it high over my belly and I prefer that it hits right below my knees that way, but you could wear it lower if you wanted to; it’s very flexible that way. It’s double layered, so it smooths out a lot of bumps, etc., and the elastic at the waist is forgiving and doesn’t cut into me anywhere. The size 3 is not too snug on me, so doesn’t feel tight at all, but the pencil style is slightly more challenging to walk in sometimes, but I don’t find it a problem.
The other pieces, aside from the jumpsuit and leggings are also great. The caftan is SO GOOD and I know I will wear that more than any other item. The tee dress is also great, but it droops a little up top since I’m still smaller proportionately up there than around my belly/hips. But it’s very comfortable and more casual than the skirt – and less restrictive for walking fast! The white tank is also nice to have, it fits well and will be a good layering piece, but I’m not sure it’s necessary. All this is to say, I don’t necessarily recommend the Basics bundle unless you’re tall and love to wear leggings – I’d purchase the pieces you think you’d wear/need more often separately. I don’t love leggings anyway….so take that for what it’s worth. Also, why do people want pregnant women to wear leggings all the time???
Again, I am so grateful for the opportunity to review these pieces from Storq, they are truly a lifesaver right now; I couldn’t be more comfortable. Thank you Storq 🙂
And if I may repeat myself once again, if you are pregnant and hesitating to spend money on maternity clothes, I would just encourage you to reconsider. Maternity pieces don’t have to be new (there are secondhand maternity pieces on Poshmark and The Real Real), and they don’t have to be expensive, but if you can find a piece you wear a lot in your “previous” life like jeans, or a pencil skirt, in a maternity version, it will make you feel so much better in your body, I promise you.
A maternity jumpsuit seems both super comfortable and, with all the peeing, a bit ill-conceived.
I love that skirt! I would want to wear it all the time!
By the end of my pregnancy the only things I wanted to wear were my maternity jeans (from Target) with a tank top or a linen dress that a friend had loaned me. Temperatures were in the 90’s and we were in the middle of a drought.
I wear leggings all the time at 34 weeks, and have since about 19 weeks… but I use them instead of tights in my still-raining spring weather. I would not wear them much in a warmer climate where I could leave my legs bare.
i wore them some earlier, but definitely don’t need them now that it’s warming up A LOT here! I’d rather wear dresses, and yes, keep my legs BARE!! yay for warmer weather 🙂
i just don’t wear leggings as part of my “normal” wardrobe – only very rarely – so they’re not something i would gravitate to pregnant either.
yes, in theory jumpsuits sound difficult for bathroom visits, but i don’t find them a problem at all, really. only if you layer on top, like have to wear a jacket or something. otherwise, you just pull them down, just like pants 😉 i just find the comfort factor greatly outweighs bathroom inconvenience!
i bought a linen gauze harper dress that came through slowre a long time ago in anticipation of wearing that A TON at the end of my pregnancy. i can’t wait ! lol
I wear leggings a LOT with oversized tops, and I’m DEFINITELY not pregnant. Come to think of it, that’s kind of a “preggo uniform”…hmmm. I think it’s just assumed that most American women have incorporated leggings into their at home lounge wardrobe, so it makes sense to me that it’s a part of Storq’s basics line.
Lovin’ this outfit on you. You look so slim, with just your bump. 🙂 And the shoes make the outfit very Grechen (as one of your readers said the other day).
oh, yeah, people love leggings!! i get that, and so of course they’re a great addition to any maternity wardrobe, just not mine 😉 i personally just don’t like leggings much, or wear them outside of my house or to pure barre, so they’re just not a wardrobe staple for me. my short legs/inseam are hard to fit into leggings anyway, so it’s really tough to find a great pair that works for my body – maybe that’s the biggest problem.
Hey Gretchen! Do you feel like it’s a good idea to get a maternity specific dress like the ribbed tank one, or do you find you can wear some of your James Peres ones due to the stretch? I’m afraid of like stretching out my James Perse dresses as I get into my third trimester.
i wore my JP dresses no problem through the third trimester! i think because they have enough built in stretch, they don’t stretch out much…
that said, i did appreciate maternity specific pieces as well. it’s a good idea to have a mix i think.
