As part of my partnership with Zady, they send me things periodically from their own collection to review for you and this season, I chose their new linen sweater. I have their linen t-shirt from last year and love it, so I definitely had high hopes for the sweater, and it is wonderful, with a couple of caveats.
Overall, I love it, and it’s very well made, but it’s perhaps not the best fit/style for someone of my small stature but wide hips, or for my style preference. The small fits nicely in the neck, shoulders, and arms, although the sleeves are VERY long. That’s nothing new for me, but I expected the sleeves to fit a little better in the small. Of course, with a summer sweater, I’m more likely to keep the sleeves pushed up as they’re pictured here, so it’s a bit of a moot point, their length, but it does add bulk and fabric.
And then there’s the actual length of the sweater. I didn’t get a great picture of the sweater at full length, but it comes down past my hips just about to the tops of my thighs. I always appreciate a nice long sweater, but in my opinion, the wide banding at the bottom of the sweater doesn’t suit that length as well as if it had a narrower hem and fell more straight. The wide band wants to cinch in a little and therefore doesn’t allow the sweater to fall nice and straight, if that makes sense.
For me, personally, I wish the sweater was more “modern” in style, with a boxier fit and much shorter; I think that would lend itself much better to summer layering over dresses, tanks, etc. It certainly doesn’t fit me like it fits the model, but that’s not new! Maybe I should have gone with the XS? But it never would have occurred to me to even think of that.
Ultimately, on my body type, the sweater fits more like a long, loose summer sweater, which is a great piece to have, just not what I expected from this one, based on the images online. I will wear it more often with slimmer jeans/pants or denim shorts. It’s the kind of sweater you’d want to take with you on a beach vacation for windy evening walks or to throw on over your swimsuit with cutoffs. Or, if you don’t live in Texas, it seems like it would be perfect for cooler summer evenings. We don’t have such things in Texas LOL.
Fit issues on me aside, I do love this sweater and recommend it if you’re looking for a lightweight summer sweater to wear with pants or shorts (I didn’t like it so much with dresses/skirts). As always, Zady is ahead of the curve when it comes to ethical production and sustainable materials, I’m so pleased to have this opportunity to work with them to promote their mission!
Check out the site for more details on manufacturing and materials. Also, they did re-launch new organic cotton t-shirts, in a v-neck this time (yay!) in a few colors. They look wonderful! And don’t forget to use code GRECHEN15 for 15% off 🙂
Happy Friday!!
I really wish I was the type of person that could wear layers in the summer. But I am more the “can I wear my bathing suit in public because I am so freaking hot” type of person. That sweater is super gorgeous! I know it’s not ideal for wearing over dresses, but it looks awesome with jeans!!
Thanks for the review, great timing as I’ve been thinking of adding a linen sweater to my spring wardrobe. How do you find the Zady one compared with the Everlane linen sweater? In terms of weight and fit? Thanks! xx
Hi Grechen, love your blog as always, even though I haven’t had time to do much commenting lately! I love these reviews, they are always so helpful! I have a random request: I have been doing barre3 and now that warmer weather has hit, I really need some shorter or “Capri” style leggings to wear to class. The problem is, I also need a compression type material that holds things in, as some of the styles I’ve tried are made from material that is just TOO thin, and almost have the feel of a thick pantyhose or something. This is bad! I’d love to find some fun prints, and stuff with at least a mid-rise, and wondering if you can help! Any chance of a post on this soon? I literally have nothing to wear to class! Top suggestions welcome too!!!
I really LOVE this look! And with the way you “smooshed” the sweater up a little, you’d never know that it’s too long. Now, I’m pretty sure I need it. But is it navy or black?
