Here they are!!!!

My TOMS Shoes wedges arrived this afternoon, and I am sad to admit that I have mixed feelings. I wanted them to be PERFECT and WONDERFUL right out of the box, and well, they’re not.
First, I was a little taken aback by the brightness of the color; on the website, they were clearly more muted. They’re not horrible, but I was hoping for more of a light minty green than a bright minty green. That’s really not a big issue though, because I’m assuming they’ll fade a bit with wear, and honestly, the brightness doesn’t bother me that much. I still like the color. I chose the mint green because I had just received the orange linea pelle bag and hate to be matchy-matchy with shoes & accessories. And my initial feeling was to get the green anyway…
Second, they slip off my feet in the back. I wore them around the house for a while, but it was difficult to walk because it was like walking in flip flops, but not flip flops…I think I can remedy this quite easily with those sticky puffy things you can tape to the inside of the heel area. I really hope I can anyway. Otherwise, they were very comfortable. The padding on the sole is great, and I like how the wedge narrows a bit in the back. In spite of the height (which really isn’t that high), it doesn’t feel like you’re walking on “high” heels in these. But again, it’s hard to tell because I could hardly walk in them anyway because of the slipping-off-my-feet problem.
I did take my normal size (8), which is also my “TOMS” size, and I definitely can’t size down a half or a whole size. There’s no room in the back when I put my foot in the shoe, so I don’t feel like they’re too big, it’s just a problem when I walk. IMO, that’s maybe a design flaw with the shoe…
I do really love them, and I hope I can make them work somehow, because I think they will be a great summer shoe. But I am kind of sad that I wasn’t as excited when I received them as I was when I ordered them 🙁
What do you think? Do you have any suggestions about what I can do about the heel slipping?
I just ordered the red striped ones! I can’t wait! I hope they are magical. I’m way too jealous that you were able to make a decision so quickly and already have yours in hand… er… on feet, rather. Sorry they flip off. I hope that remedies itself soon!

They don’t look THAT bright, Grech, but I understand how much even a small difference in color can matter a whole lot. I think that this is one of the major problems with shopping online.
If you hadn’t mentioned the color problem, I wouldn’t have said “hmmm, I’m not sure about the mint shoes”. The color will be a nice counterpoint to the orange linea pelle. As usual, you look great.
I bought the Josie Maran argan oil yesterday…I happened to be going to Sephora. I’m not glowing yet, but we’ll see.
They look so cute! Hope you get them to work for you!

have you tried foot petals heel pads? they have a ton of nifty comfy stick-on insoles, heel pads, and ball-of-foot petals for all kinds of shoes, and i’ve used their heel pads to help with heel-slippage issues and they’ve worked quite nicely for me.
i LOVED my Toms classic slipons, but sadly after 2 pairs getting holes in the back heel from just normal wear i gave up. i love their business model and the style of their shoes, but unfortunately they don’t seem to hold up to much wear very well…

i’m going to get a pair of the heel pads today. I’m thinking they’ll work.
sorry to hear about your toms..i can definitely see something like that happening with just the canvas. mine are extra sturdy i think because they have tiny sequins on them 😉 so they’re holding up perfectly.
That’s disappointing to hear – I really liked the navy wedges, but the last few pairs of shoes I’ve bought online have turned out to be less comfortable than expected and I don’t wear them as much as I thought I would. I bought some grey Melissa wedges, which I love the style of, and they’re super cushy and comfy as heels go, but they sort of cut into my toe if I walk around in them for an extended time. And I recently ordered some Keen mary-jane style shoes that I’d had my eye on for awhile, that are made with recycled rice bags, but the side under the ankle is a little too high, cuts into my ankle, and the elastic straps are too tight. 🙁
yeah, i was pretty disappointed in the TOMS wedges…but i normally have pretty good luck buying shoes online, i can’t even remember the last pair of shoes i DIDN’T buy online! i usually buy on sites with free return shipping so i can send back whatever doesn’t fit though. sorry about your shoes though 🙁
I’m have many pairs of Toms…8 pairs…just ordered two more and am thinking about getting the wedges. I’ve noticed that last years Toms have a tighter fit than this years Toms…and different styles fit differently…I’m really unsure about my size for the wedges. I haven’t worn heels in a long time…and I am a true size 7 (in reg shoes)…but in heels I remember being a 6 or a 6.5. I don’t know if I should order a 6.5 or what.
wow. that’s a lot of TOMS!!! i don’t know about the wedges…i don’t think they’re a 1/2 size big or small, or whatever. the fit was just off.
I love my TOMS wedges. I wear them everyday. For real the most comfortable heels I have ever owned… My only complaint is that the material that they covered the wedge with isn’t very sturdy. I noticed the material starting to come apart at the heel after just 2 weeks of regular wear. Hopefully the second generation wedges will be better now that they are covered with all canvas. 🙂
Glad to read your experience with the wedges! (In fact, I found you by Googling “fit of TOMS wedges). I just got mine last night, and I’m having the opposite fit problem — I think they are squeezing my little piggy toe to death! So I will probably have to go to the 8 (rather than the 7.5) and *then* I’ll get the heel slippage. I’m used to heel slippage though — I must have a freakishly narrow heel. 🙂
hi trish! honestly, i think the fit on these is just a little “off” – maybe the new Fall wedges will fit better – not have all the issues. i hope so because they are CUTE!!! i love the new Fall colors.
I’m having the same issue with the TOMS wedges and I just bought the new Fall styles (all canvas) from Nordstrom. I’m a true 8 but the 8’s that I have are tight and the 8.5’s I tried on at the store gave me major heel slippage. I’m going to stick with the 8 and try to “break them in” as TOMS customer service suggests. The customer service rep. I chatted with online said they would only stretch in width which I am hoping will help my foot kind of slide forward and be more comfy in the heel. I’m hoping this strategy works as I bought all 3 colors (ash, cranberry, and black) and I absolutely love the styling of them. Fingers crossed =)!
I don’t know how I feel about TOMS. Sometimes I find them cute, sometimes they annoy me. Perhaps because I live in NYC and often see posers and wannabe hipsters sporting them. I’m tempted to get a pair in red, but so far I’m not convinced. Any advice? Thanks!
the mint green works really well with an understated outfit, like the simple black skirt and white t in the photo.
i really like my regular TOMS (not the wedges, I didn’t keep those) in blue glitter but i don’t wear them very often anymore – maybe because EVERYONE now has a pair? they’re super-comfortable and great for slipping on, and i do like the way they look. i say get a pair, try them and you’ll probably like them 🙂
Today, I just put on my first pair of TOMS wedge shoes in slate/gray. I love the look of the shoe, and initially when I put them on they felt a little snug all over, but I’ve been wearing them for 3 hours…sitting mostly, and I just got up to do something at work, and the left shoe is trying to slip off my foot in the back when I walk. I have a feeling it’s only going to get worst b/c obviously they stretch pretty quickly. I will have to get some padding for them to keep them on my feet. Hopefully this will work.
Oops, “worst” should be worse.
I googled how to stretch out tom’s wedges. I just bought my first pair at a cute little shop and love them…..except they’re a little tight. I looked on-line and was told to walk around in the house with socks on under them. I think it might take a couple weeks of doing this to work. But I love the look of the shoes. And I love the minty green. Good choice. There is a utube video on how to shrink your toms.
Run a bead of silicone sealant (usually used for sinks etc.) across the backs of shoes that slip off. It makes a cushy and semi-tacky line that is just enough to keep shoes from slipping!
Brilliant!!!
