Happy Friday!!! I received this shirt a little late to post by launch of the new poplin styles, but better late than never. This is the size 8 because I thought it would fit very similar to the silk square shirt I have and wish I had a size bigger. It does NOT fit exactly like the silk shirt – the hem is straight across, not draped in the back, and it has slits up the sides. And since it’s not draped, it “tents” out quite a bit overall, but that’s sort of fun, and provides built in A/C for the summer. BONUS.
The most amazing thing about this shirt is how lightweight it is. It’s surprising, actually, but wonderfully so. I can imagine it would be very comfortable in 80+ degree heat, especially with the air flow LOL. And look, I’m wearing navy 🙂
I do wish the arms were a teeny bit longer; they hit me at a not so flattering place, but no big deal.
Overall, this is another Everlane piece I’d recommend, just keeping in mind it’s slightly cropped, meant to run big, and has slits on the sides. When I’m sitting, the top of the slit comes to the top of my jeans, so no peek-a-boo there. And there’s plenty of coverage in the back. Did anyone order it yet? or any of the other new poplin styles? What do you think?
Oh, so if you’ve read this far, I decided to do a surprise giveaway on yesterday’s post since you guys are so amazing !! You’re taking the “five questions” so seriously, and I love it. Truly, I just thought they would be fun to try and answer myself, and thought to share them, they’re really not meant to be an exercise in closet cleaning or anything, BUT I love doing things like that periodically to remind myself of the things I REALLY REALLY love in my closet, and the things I know I could do without.
So, on Monday I’ll choose a comment from the “Five Questions” post (randomly) to win a new Everlane dipped tote in black (I ordered it just to see it, and I love it, but don’t need it, so I am happy to pass it on!). You do have to actually try and answer the questions though, to be entered to win. Or, leave a comment/linkback to your own blog if you decide to post about them and answer them there. Sorry…but US readers only.
Enjoy your weekend !
I ordered the same shirt and really like how elegant the color looks. I chose a size 2 which works perfectly.
I also ordered the V-Neck Tank Dress, and while I like the cut, it runs awfully small, especially in the hip area. I ordered a size 10 and it’s just too tight overall. Sadly, the black size 12 is already sold out. The white is lovely, but more in theory: it’s pretty see-through and I just can’t be bothered to wear a slip in summer.
What do you think about the Poplin Square Shirt Dress? Too tent-y overall? I might give it a try.
I have their striped poplin square shirt–I think it is the same cut as this one, but has a Mandarin collar. I really like it–it hits me at just the right spot so I can wear it without tucking it in and it looks nice, and the shape is flattering for my apple-shaped body. I got a size 10, and it definitely runs loose–I have trouble getting more tailored shirts that fit me well.
I might go back and get the navy one as well!
Ooh I ordered the v-neck tank dress too but haven’t received it yet. I’ll be so disappointed if the fit is off. That’s my biggest issue with dresses, having them be too narrow in the hips.
I’ll add my thoughts once I get it.
same with me – the hip issue, and that is what scared me off about both the poplin dresses; they look lovely, but i just know that on me, to fit my hips, they’d be too big up top. i’ll be very interested to hear how you like it! maybe we’ll be pleasantly surprised 🙂
i was very tempted to order the square shirt dress. VERY. but i’m afraid it just wouldn’t work on me in the hip area – and if it’s the same general fit as the v-neck tank dress, then it sounds like it wouldn’t…i may try it anyway. just to see 😉
and agree with you on the color, it’s very nice – i love the navy, even though i never buy/wear it LOL
I have my eye on the poplin skirt! Do you think the fabric wrinkles easily? Also, do you think it could be worn in the cooler seasons without seeming out of place?
The poplin culottes are on their way to me now…I’m cautiously optimistic. I’m definitely worried about wrinkling :/
I wanted a wide-leg pant for the summer, and I’d rather have the Elizabeth Suzann Florence pant in linen — but they are backordered for 6-8 weeks, and so by the time I even got them, summer would be nearly over! So I’m hoping these will work.
I ordered the white poplin square shirt, but haven’t received it yet. Your review makes me think I’ll like it a lot, since I was looking for something that looked a little polished that also provided personal AC. Fingers crossed it isn’t too sheer!
Really cute outfit! The shirt is pretty tenty from the side, tho. It doesn’t look that way at all from the front. I’m loving the hair length. But how is it to take care of? I always struggle with longer hair upkeep, even though I like the look.
That’s a great color on you — also, I love the blush and lipstick you are wearing! Mind sharing?
thank you christie! i’m pretty sure i’m wearing this fresh lip tint: http://www.sephora.com/sugar-lip-treatment-spf-15-P57002?skuId=1500909&icid2=d%3Dc6%3Aproducts%20grid%3Ap57002_image and for blush, i’m not sure that i’m wearing any (i have ‘naturally’ red cheeks)!! if i am, it would be either this givenchy (http://www.sephora.com/hydra-sparkling-magic-lip-cheek-balm-P255603?skuId=1231273&icid2=d=c6:products%20grid:p255603_image), or nars orgasm
Thanks Grechen! Lucky to have such nice natural color 🙂
I just received the Poplin Square Shirt Dress.
Two things: The voluminous cut just isn’t flattering not on me. I ordered an 8 and look like a barrel in it. For comparison: My Everlane regular silk blouse size is large, but I ordered my Everlane square shirts in size 2 and 0, and they’re still perfectly voluminous. Maybe a size 4 would help reduce the barrel silhouette, but here comes the second problem: the fabric is beautiful, but it feels too warm for a summer dress, at least here in Chicago. I’m sure it’s fine in an office, but it seems to heavy to walk around in high humidity.
Alas – tight around the hips. I double-checked the size chart, and the size I ordered should have left me with room to breathe around the hips. Better to ignore the size chart and size up on this one.
(Which is crazy, because Everlane’s size charts are specific for each item. Why is it so off the mark?)
Otherwise, it’s a lovely dress. Would love to see how it looks when properly fitted.
Megan, was it too sheer? am debating between the white and navy for that very reason.
