Rag & Bone/JEAN Boy Jean (size 27 – one size down from my “normal” denim size. I think.)

I have always had a love/hate relationship with denim. I LOVE it, but hate trying it on. I’m pretty sure I have an unhealthy obsession with denim; I prefer more interesting styles, 100% cotton, and unique details, and I’m ALWAYS looking. Fit is important too… But it has always been a real pain in the ass for me to find jeans that work for me. My calves are wider than most, so I usually have to make the jeans fit my calves and/or hips and go from there. If I’m lucky, I find pairs that fit my curves with a lot of trial and error.
Anyway, after recent weight loss and now that I’ve been hovering a little lower than I was before for quite some time, I’m having a little better luck finding jeans that fit. Obviously 😉 This is my second pair in less than a week.
I’ll do a more comprehensive post on my updated denim wardrobe, but basically I like to have several styles in rotation: a straight, slouchy, rigid style (these Boy jeans, which are similar to the “wicked” style I had last year, and sold because they were too big. Available in size 26 on sale here), a dark, slimmer style (my Cigarette jeans), a wide leg style (my Eileen Fisher jeans), and a fashion-y style (my Rachel Comey Legion jeans). Wardrobe complete.
These Boy jeans are just right on me. They’re a little big in the waist, but not so much it’s a concern. They fit in the calves, hips, and thighs and get just slouchy enough to be comfortable, but still look “put together” I think. I wore them all day yesterday and felt great in them all day. And I don’t think I need to hem them! Bonus. (if you do not have athletic thighs, wide calves or otherwise “chunky” legs, you might try sizing down even more – The size 26 fit me perfectly in the waist/hips but was too tight in the legs)
I’ve been trying Rag & Bone jeans more often lately because I have a store nearby, and so far I’m impressed. The brand hasn’t worked really well for me in the past, but things are looking up! yay!
Finally, I just want to mention this bag. Again. It’s up on Slowre right now for $220 and I’m so excited it came through. I’m a Jas M.B. super fan and get giddy whenever I see one in the wild (which is basically never) and would love to see more people appreciate the bags. Sadly, they’re not producing much anymore, but over the years I’ve had 4-5 bags and am now down to 2 (a black quilted one and an olive one in the same style as this one I’m wearing above). The bags are extremely high quality, made to last (by hand in England), and incredibly practical. I almost love most of all that the bags are meant to be rather unisex, because you know how I feel about hardware and embellishments 😉
Happy Wednesday!! I hope your week is progressing nicely .
I was eyeing that bag on Slowre this AM, and it’s very helpful to see it on you! I love the versatility of it (or how it looks in the photos). I am SO glad I snagged the Patti Shell this AM, I clicked like a madwoman for that piece since I’ve wanted it for so long! I felt like I finally understood what other people were talking about when they were trying to get grab bags and the ES/AC orders (so much for my touting about resisting scarcity earlier this week!) I’m pretty sure the only ever time I’ve moved so fast in an online purchase was during a midnight online Freda Salvador Sample Sale (and yes, I set my alarm to get up in time for it).
I’m usually a S/M and am worried that maybe I should have held out for a S (and I’m guessing the Patti was your personal piece you sold). Was the M too large on you? I heard it stretches a bit but I also like a loose fit, so… ?
yes, so glad you got it! it was mine. it was sort of big, but not really. i still would have worn it, i just found that i didn’t really want to wear it much, you know? i just want to wear black all the time now…if you like a loose fit, it’ll be fine on you i think!
OH man do I hear you on wanting to wear black all the time! For whatever reason whenever summer comes up I’m suddenly into all black, all day every day. I wanted the Patti in Black originally but I think it would look too similar to my raw silk Marlena and the sage looks like a beautiful neutral!
Have you ever thought of a chin implant?
Grechen what’s the style name or link to the pair you bought (you might have listed it, but I don’t see it?) Thanks!
The boy jean! Rag & bone/jean
I’ve been missing your posts! Where are you? Hope everything is ok!
I miss you, too. I hope you are just enjoying working on slowre and relaxing at the start of this summer.
Where is the store close to you that sells Rag and Bone? Have you tried the new James Perse linen pants? If so, are they slim or straight? Are they soft? Is there a shop to try them on that you know of?
i live in dallas and we have a rag & bone store in highland park village. there’s also a james perse store there.
i’ve tried these pants: http://www.jamesperse.com/women/apparel/new-arrivals/womens-canvas-linen-patched-pant-who1790?color=19723&cm_filter=WOMEN%2FAPPAREL%2FNEW-ARRIVALS and i LOVED THEM SO MUCH, they’re a slim/straight leg, and although they fit perfectly everywhere while i was standing up, they were tight on my legs in my “normal” size 2 where the seaming is when i sat down, and didn’t stretch much there.
