Power of my People Philosopher shirt Wayward Fit (s) | Gift from the designer to review
Lauren Manoogian knit skirt (size 2)
Birkenstock Arizona sandals
I mentioned I’d received this shirt from Power of my People a little while ago to review for you. I have only really been able to wear it a couple of times (worn last week too), but I’ve also washed it, so I haven’t quite put it through its paces yet, but I am definitely getting a good idea of how to wear it and how it holds up.
I decided on the small after trying the small and the medium (I sent the medium back). I was a little torn on even going down to an XS, but I didn’t want it to be any shorter, so I decided to stick with the small. The designer mentions that 1. you need to allow for some shrinkage and 2. the sleeves will eventually fall down a bit. I was very glad to know about the sleeves; that’s sort of a pet peeve of mine, sleeves that stick out – that’s why I can’t do the Georgia styles from Elizabeth Suzann.
I digress. The sleeves have definitely relaxed a bit with wear/wash, and the shirt did shrink the tiniest bit with washing. I’ve only ever worn it tucked into jeans or like this, but I would also wear it out with this skirt, or with my Eileen Fisher jeans, or even leggings with a sweater over top (why I didn’t want it to be shorter). Being linen, it does wrinkle quite a bit though, so it’s best to let it relax a little after tucking it in or tying it before wearing it out!
The fit is really nice, and the linen is wonderful. It’s nice and lightweight, and I look forward to it softening up with more wear. I REALLY love the look of both the pockets on the front, and it’s hard to tell, but there’s a small separate pen pocket on the left pocket that’s angled a little bit. What a nice touch (I’m ALWAYS carrying pens around with me from my office to the kitchen and back)!
So far, I’m very pleased with this shirt and look forward to being able to wear it more often now that it’s warming up (yay!). I will admit, I usually default to t-shirts or tanks in warmer weather, but I love a shirt like this with jeans/etc., or even as a jacket, to play around a little bit. And I normally don’t like tying my shirt like this (it seems too fussy to me), but I sort of like it now that I’ve done it! I could see bringing this shirt on vacation to wear as a cover up, a jacket, with a James Perse dress, or tied like this with some wide leg pants. Or the rust color silk Elizabeth Suzann andy pants?? 🙂
Grechen, I know this is a review about the shirt (which is pretty nice), but can we talk about your skirt for a sec?! WOW. You look amazing in that skirt! Your butt looks amazing too. And the color?! Gorgeous.
haha!! thank you 🙂
i love this skirt!! and the color…which is why i mentioned the rust color by elizabeth suzann…i am thinking to get a pair of pants in that color instead of black linen. gasp!
Love this whole outfit on you, Grechen! I have the same pet peeve about short sleeves that stick out. A deal breaker for me with the ES Georgia also.
Love! (and Wed post is honest and good reading).
Love this outfit and love your mind when it comes to the other style options you described. (Although I would do the top in navy: sorry Grechen, black just washes me out completely.)
I bought one of these shirts and really hated the way the sleeve poked up, even after washing. Deal breaker. I don’t have the patience to hope that the sleeves will work someday. Your’s doesn’t seem as stiff as mine was.
Hi Lori – Jessica here from Power Of My People. I’m sorry that your shirt has you frustrated due to the shoulders sticking out! You may have already done so but if not, try steaming your shirt with your iron, paying special attention to the top of the shoulder curve, ironing so the shoulder seam (the seam that runs from the shoulder to the neck) is flat and facing up. I know this can be time consuming, but once the fabric relaxes to your shoulder line you won’t need to do this every time. Linen can feel dry after being washed so re-hydrating it with a steamy iron helps it soften so much. Hope this helps you feel better about you shirt! – Jess.
I’ve had my eye on that shirt in white for so long! I am such a sucker for a nice button down, and for a white top. Glad to hear the linen is so nice, and I feel like I would probably roll the sleeves.
