Well. It looks (fingers crossed) like today might be the last 100 degree day for a while. And I’m celebrating by wearing plaid. Haha! Actually this shirt is super-lightweight, like I’m wearing nothing, really, so it’s not so bad in this heat. But I’m only just going to the dentist and running errands, so I’ll not be out in the “elements” much during the hottest part of the day.
I honestly only bought this top because it was cheap (around $30 I think? from a now defunct site Isaay.com), which I really don’t recommend. I’ve worn it a few times, but I’ve had it for a couple years, so not a great cost-per-wear compared to many other things in my closet. I almost purged it when I did the big closet clean-out, but decided to keep it as a cover-up, and as general beach/pool wear.
It’s not a bad top at all; I have a gray flannel version that I absolutely wear much more often, and I got it for around $100. But if there’s another thing I know for sure about my shopping habits, it’s that whenever I buy things JUST BECAUSE OF THE PRICE, they tend to be the first items to go because I’ve never worn them, they’ve not held up well, or they’re just not “me.” I cannot even count the number of things that fit into this box.
More on this in my Minimal Closet post tomorrow…
In the mean time, it seems like plaid is a “thing” this fall, of course, so here are some of my favorite plaids out there right now. I won’t be partaking, since I’m really trying to stay away from stripes and patterns – for my wardrobe anyway – but I do love a good plaid on others…

What about you, do you wear plaid? How do you wear it? What’s your favorite plaid piece?
100 degrees! It has been snowing the last few days here :(. I may live in Canada, but even we don’t usually get snow in September. It occurred to me that we have had snow in all but 3 months this year (we had snow on the ground still in May this year). I’ll swap you weather in a heartbeat.
Also, you look great in this simple plaid outfit :). I have trouble finding plaid that fits because I really like the heavier renditions, but they tend to be non-stretchy and I have rather large arms for a 5’0″ woman apparently.
Thanks for the links on some nice plaid items – I’ll check them out.
I love the plaid top! I actually saw one at Loft (where I rarely shop) with a jeweled collar that I am contemplating. It’s pretty.

I wish I could do plaid but it doesn’t really work for my body (just comes off too masculine with my broad shoulders) but that doesn’t stop me from still trying it.
I tried on a red/black plaid shirtdress in Madewell this weekend and really liked it. It had pockets and it was so soft, I wanted it but it looked like a borderline nightgown. I like your plaid top, the colors are nice and it looks like an easy to wear piece. I’ve heard about Rails plaid shirts in the blogosphere and found one in Cusp. Omg, that top was so soft, I feel like I need to have one in my life lol.
This looks great on you! I bought a plaid/windowpane coat during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale (sold out now) that I can’t wait to wear. Otherwise I don’t have much plaid, other than a J.Crew button down that I wear a ton in the winter.

Did I mention my obsession with the plaid flannel shirtdress Uniqlo has? I don’t think it would look good on me (Uniqlo isn’t the best fit on my thighs….) but I pinned it as soon as I saw it. Adore! Maybe I’ll try the Madewell and see how it looks – we actually have a store somewhat close-ish, unlike Uniqlo.

I can deal with plaid when it’s 100, but I cannot deal with jeans. You look so cool, calm & collected – in this heat, I would not ๐
the one time i tried stuff on at uniqlo i wasn’t able to find anything good. the fit was just “off” on me, which is okay by me, because that means less stuff ๐
i do like that dress though – and the madewell one –
like i said…just the dentist today and a few errands, so i went from a/c to a/c VERY quickly!!!!
oh, i like that shirtdress from madewell! can you not do like a black/gray plaid? or more of a checkered pattern? i think that would like great on you! and you have such great legs, i don’t see how anything could come off masculine ๐
yeah, those rails tops are crazy soft. this one is too actually. i’m a sucker for soft shirts
get it! can’t wait to see an outfit!!!
oh no. i can’t deal with snow either…i have a very small range of temperatures where i’m comfortable – generally between 50 and 80 degrees!!
i have large arms, not long ones, but they are pretty flabby (what is that called? not turkey neck, i have that too…) – it’s hard to find sleeves that work with that plus being short. sleeves are tight and long!
We call arm flaps the “Hi Helens!” in our house. Because when you raise your arm up to wave at your friend, Helen, and say “Hi,” your arm flaps wave, too. ๐
haha. yes. that’s what mine do. flap flap. and i just cannot get rid of them!!!
How do you get the partial-tuck just right? I keep trying and it just looks…partially tucked on me!
I can’t even think about wearing more than a bathing suit in 100 degree heat. I bow down to you ๐
I’ve got a red plaid shirt that I purchased from Old Navy last year and it is truly perfect for me:I love red, I love plaid, I love the lightweight fabric and the relaxed fit. Unfortunately, I purchased 2 others that didn’t meet ANY of those criteria before I finally bought the one that I should have waited for in the first place. Lesson learned
No one is looking at them but you, trust me!
That is hilarious! I hate my Hi Helens.

Very nice shirt, you look great in plaid. I love it myself, hoping to find a couple of nice shirts this fall to wear as shirt jackets/cardigan alternatives. I can never wear shirts as shirts, they just won’t sit right when buttoned up.
