Here I go again with the matchy matchy! I won’t say it doesn’t still “concern” me, but less than it did when I was just thinking about it. I mean…I don’t enjoy matching my bag with my sweater, but it is what it is.
We’re all still here anyway!!
I understand the “worries” … but it works very well here … at least the shoes are not matchy matchy 🙂
Love the outfit.
Personally, I feel like the olive is such a subtle color that it doesn’t come across as matchy-matchy at all, not like you were wearing a bright yellow sweater and a bright yellow bag and bright yellow shoes. It’s a low-contrast color combo, so reads as gradations to me. So I think you can relax. 😉
ha. yes. of course you’re right. but still… 😉
thank you marie! matchy shoes would take it to a whole other level!!
I think it comes across as confident, statement-making, vs. “matchy-matchy.” That term implies lack of imagination, or being a conformist, to me.

I don’t see this outfit as ‘matchy,” but like how it creates a spectrum that starts with the lighter gray shoes, morphs to the olive gray/green of your sweater, and then becomes the olive green in your bag. Maybe these look different in real life, but in the photo they seem to make sense and “go together” without being “matchy.” Of course, I actually like things that match, so I may be seeing this differently, but I think you look fantastic, as always. The important thing is whether or not you like it!
I guess we all have different ideas about what works or doesn’t work. Personally, I think you look great, and I think it’s because, like Marie and Jen said, your shoes add a point of interest plus the bag “reads” neutral. It’s not like you look like you belong in one of those Target TV commercials where everything is coordinated around two colors (like red and turquoise…YIKES!), you know what I mean?!? 😉
I like it!
