Margot Wolf necklace
Hmmm. It doesn’t feel like October around here, but it definitely is. My little sister is turning 40 in a couple of weeks, and my 42nd birthday is less than a month away. Whoa. I will admit, I’m feeling a little anxious, but mostly because I KNOW what I want to do going forward, and I’m getting a lot of push back from my internal critic.
I feel good because that means I’m on the right track (you don’t feel the push back if you’re not truly following your passion), but frustrated, because that loud voice and fear that I’m not good enough are still very hard to overcome.
Anyway, I’m not quitting Grechen’s Closet, never worry about that! I just want to supplement it with a couple of other complementary things, which I’ll talk about more later, once I figure out how I can actually DO them. I wish money wasn’t an issue, but of course, it always is.
Moving on to fashion-y things…I haven’t posted any outfits this week because it’s been too hot to wear anything other than my Oak dress (which doesn’t touch my body), and I’ve literally worn that every day. Today, it’s just a bit cooler, not so sunny, and slightly breezy, so I think I can get away with pants & loafers. We’ll see!
Happy Friday, I hope you have a great weekend!!
I have the same internal critic .. lol. I want to finish out my current employment situation and then pursue a certificate in nutrition for nutritional coaching, but then I think .. who would pay me to tell them to eat better ..lol. So then I do nothing and suffer in silence in a job I no longer care for ..
However, I finally came to the conclusion that .. if I’m not growing, moving forward, and learning new things (and I’m not in my current dead position) then what is the point? So I try to keep that in mind when those negative internal thoughts surface.
Monica.
ME TOO! i actually have several goals along that line, but they have to do with nutrition and personal training.
if you can, you should absolutely go for a change. there’s nothing worse than wasting time doing something you don’t love, and that you have no passion for.
So, so, so, SO pleased with my Everlane loafers. Wearing them for the first time today.

We’ve had cool nights, so at least I can open the bedroom window and start to sleep cuddled under the blanket, but still hot during the day (80, not 90, but still….) Last night I sorted through & tried on winter pants. But the cords didn’t move into the closet just yet…(heavier cotton/denim made the cut this week)
It’s hard feeling “autumnal” in the South. I’m a yankee and I still crave crisp cool New England falls. Today, I’m wearing a black cotton & linen dress (knee length, short sleeve) and my nod to fall is a silk scarf in darker colors – black, red, brown, mustard – and closed toe shoes….
I just recently found your blog and find your perspective on fashion so refreshing. I strive to find the balance between chic and comfortable that you seem to have found. My ’45ish Mom uniform’ is jeans, cotton shirt/blouse and wedge sandals because this is what is comfortable (and makes me feel good).
Love Hope pants! Btw, I chose Dieppa Restrepo black loafers over Everlane black ones– I really liked the almond toe and very classic look of DR. I think I want more of DR shoes. Amazing craftsmanship as well. Everlane loafers are good quality but I did not care how they looked on me feet, at least in black. I might give another try and order in lighter color. They are comfy though– Everlane customer service was super nice.
the Dieppa restrepos were a good choice 🙂 they such a great shoe, and very well made. they’ll last you forever. i’ve wanted another pair since i got my first pair, they’re kind of an addiction! but i don’t need them of course. although they’re lady booties are tempting…
those are the best outfits janice – the ones that make us feel good 🙂
sometimes i feel like my look is a lot more comfortable than chic LOL
welcome!! and thanks for your comment.
i’ve spent all my life in the south, including florida, so i don’t know why my body is so READY for fall at the beginning of october. i blame the media 😉
mornings are nice and cool (but dark), which is nice for walks with dagny, but i love it when the days are cool and the sun is shining. can’t wait for that…
Grechen, every time I see you in that MW necklace, I want one too! it seems to be the perfect accessory for your outfits.
It’s still pretty warm here in LA as well, which is a bummer. It did “cool off” to mid 80’s for a couple days this wk but will head up to 90’s again this wknd.
I have a Pure Barre question for u, if i may? where can i buy “sticky socks”? this store called Athleta will have a FREE PB class tomorrow a.m. and on the flyer it says, wear your sticky socks.
it is such a great necklace! and i love that she was a local austin designer too – she really makes beautiful, unique things.
oh fun!! maybe try a sporting goods store for sticky socks? they’re really not readily available though, so they might be tough to find. maybe athleta sells them? you technically don’t NEED sticky socks (just regular socks), but they do help if you’re a beginner with doing the plank and tippy-toe exercises because they help you stick to the floor. otherwise you’re using your core muscles to stay balanced, which isn’t a bad thing, but sort of tough for a beginner! please report back and let me know what you think!! i’m excited for you.
Thanks Grechen!
i just got off the phone w/the Athleta store clerk and they do sell them there so i will probably purchase them when i go to the class.
I’m really tempted to buy that moon necklace…i looked at her website and she has lots of very interesting pieces. Hmm…will have to see how that fits into my budget! 🙂
Grechen, would you be willing to share photos of you wearing the Oak dress? It is just the sort of thing I love for hot weather but I am worried it would just look like a muumuu or nightgown on me if I wear it un-belted, which is why I haven’t ordered it.
yes! here is one belted: http://grechenscloset.com/outfit-buy-multiples-oak-dress/
one without: http://grechenscloset.com/outfit-oak/
i honestly wear it mostly without a belt, it’s just easier, and allows more air flow 🙂
i actually think that it has more shape than it appears to, so it doesn’t look entirely muumuu-ish, i think it’s very flattering from the side specifically…
Ah, thanks, I was just going to do a search since I remembered seeing you post a pic once. 🙂
I’m considering the gray but am worried it would show sweat too easily. How has yours held up to washing? And are you wearing a Small?
I’m wearing a medium. I think it’s a good size for me, because of my wider bottom half.
And don’t worry about sweat showing. The armholes are actually long, and don’t even come close to touching your armpits! That’s the beauty of this dress…it hardly touches your body at all 😉
Renza, I bought the Oak dress after reading about here on Grechen’s site. I LOVE that dress! I’ve washed it a couple times–in cold temp, delicate cycle and then hang dry. I mostly wear it loose, occasionally belted. It’s a versatile dress–you can accessorize with a big chunky necklace or wear a scarf or just “as is”. I think you’ll get a lot of wear out of it.
Cool, thanks! Do you also have it in black, or do you have the gray?
Grechen, I’m not so worried about the armpits as I am about the back, if I were to sit down while sweaty, haha ;-P Embarrassing
Hi beautiful! BTW, I totally bought the Vince Prestons, and I totally bought them so I could get as close as possible to looking like you:). Have a wonderful weekend.
I have it in black 🙂
So true! (Now I’ve just got to take my own advice!)
I love those pants and loafers! Every time you wear the pants, I end up thinking,n”I’ve got to lose weight so I can get a pair of those Hope trousers!” But I guess that’s not very “self-loving”?!?
Ok. So you’ve definitely piqued our curiosity. Now I’ll be like a kid on Christmas Eve! “What is it? Is it the doll I want? Is it clothes?” Haha 😉
You have to take a look at Margot Wolf’s Instagram…I swear her dog had something to do with Dagny’s parentage!!!
haha! i’ll write more about it, i guess i just want to be in process, and more ‘on the path’ before i say it out loud to anyone by my family, you know? it’s like it’s anything groundbreaking…i just want to set my intentions first!
I understand…just teasing you. 🙂 But it is exciting to think about what you’ve got up your sleeve. You’re on a roll!!!
